It's not just food; I like beautiful everything 
. No, seriously, the pretty food is more likely to be healthy (and not yet spoiled) than the ugly food is. Think of fresh berries; they're the most nutritious (and generally the best tasting) when they are the prettiest (especially when the color is the most even on all sides). Men can't be too bothered by the presence of ugly food, as they're traditionally the hunters. If they were too "Ew, this deer looks gross with all this blood on it; I'm outta here", then the human race wouldn't have gotten enough protein. Also, that's probably part of the reason that men don't tend to mind gore and yucky things as much; they'd have a harder time removing the inedible parts of game they killed if they were all "EWWWWWW!!!!!!" about icky stuff .
Now for a moment of beauty:
