Date or no date, I'm not giving up my garlic or onions.

And I'm drinking my coffee black! 😀☕
My grandfather used to drink carrot juice with garlic. I'm talking he drank it so much he had an orange glow to him. I often think about doing it myself......maybe not so much lol. When we were getting chewed by skeeters, he never got bit.

it seems hardly anyone knows that the devil can con anyone into disliking vegetables, 1 of the healthiest foods on earth. & it's unusual for Christians to dislike vegetables.
Personally, I don't dislike vegetables if they are prepared a certain way. For example, I love Chinese food, and I have ordered more than my fair share of chicken with broccoli over the years. However, 90% of the raw hard broccoli winds up in the garbage. Now, if somebody was to steam that broccoli, add some lemon juice, some garlic, and some butter, then I would eat plate after plate of it.

The last time that I can recall choosing a salad as my appetizer at a restaurant was at an Olive Garden several years ago. They brought me out of plate of dry huge pieces of lettuce, big chunks of dry hard peppers, some red and some green, dry onions, and some cherry tomatoes* with the texture of marbles. Was it colorful? Yeah, but so is a plate of Legos, and that is what it tasted like to me. Take those same peppers, fry them, and put them on a cheesesteak or a sausage sandwich, and I would devour them in a moment. In other words, it is all about how the veggies are prepared. I simply do not like dry hard food.

The same principle applies with fruits. I would choose something juicy like a grape or an orange over a dry hard apple or pear any day of the week.

*I think that tomatoes are technically a fruit, yet somehow considered to be a vegetable when it comes to cooking

I guess I am, and know, a lot of unusual Christians.

Most people at the church potlocks I grew up with weren't filling up on vegetables (unless smothered in sauce, cream, and cheese,) and their weight reflected that.

I've actually had discussions with other Christian friends about this, how churches often have a culture of eating (a lot of gatherings involving food,) and does little to foster healthy eating, because very few are gorging on plain vegetables, even in everyday life.

I don't gargle (unless sick, then I'll gargle with salt water,) but I do think that brushing your teeth does little without a good tongue scraping and cleaning, which I do every time I brush my teeth.

And unless people have been politely lying to me all my life, I've never had anyone tell me I smell bad, unless of course it's right after eating or for other obvious reasons.
as a sidenote to all this, the worst food i ever ate was at church functions, i mean terrible.

Uh oh.

Here comes the big question.

Would you give up the garlic if you could date a super hot vampire?!?

OOPS!

*SK-IIII-DDD*

1732125036246.jpeg

That was the decoy question (but seriously, would you?!)

The REAL question is:

Would you give up onions, garlic, and coffee (permanently) if it also meant getting a permanent discount on your taxes?!

Dun dun dun dunn!!!

It wasn't funny when I tried to eat it. No, I did not finish it. Seriously, it was like eating Legos, and no amount of dressing could change that.

I am fine with steamed vegetables, especially since the steam softens their texture. I don't think eating should be a chore, and chewing hard substances is a chore for me.

Out of curiosity, am I the only one here who dislikes dry hard food?

I mean, even M&M's bother me. It's like biting down on a clam shell. Sure, they melt in your mouth; after you almost chip your teeth biting into them.

For some people things like garlic and bell peppers are a "no go". They will literally taste them and have their odor for a week after eating them. (Even after they, themselves can't taste or smell them anymore)

They are indeed NOT THE NORM.

YES....it means your teeth are in need of a dentist/orthodontist.
Hard crusty and chewy breads are one of my staple foods. Very much like rice for Asians.

This is interesting.

I can definitely relate to some of the dislikes you've stated in your posts (as well as the likes... Shrimp Scampi, where are you??!!!) but this is part of why I find food preferences between individuals fascinating.

I tend to like a lot of my foods on the drier side. For instance, I do NOT like sauce on my sandwiches, because I don't like most condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, dressings -- beh!) and I think they make my sandwich mushy, which I don't like at all.

I'm losing my taste for meat as I get older, and when I do have it, I have to shred it or cut it into very small pieces -- there's just something about the texture about bigger chunks of food that I don't like. I also came close to suffocating on various pieces of food as a kid (maybe I was just being too greedy at the time, lol) so I tend to cut my food into smaller pieces as a precaution.

I eat salad with the dressing on the side, because I grew up in the "you're not losing weight because your salad is drenched in fat-laden dressing" era, only dipping a corner of the leaves in at a time.

But when it comes to M&M's... I can whole-heartedly make the egregious sacrifice of taking on any unwanted ones that come your way... All in the interest of helping out a fellow Christian.

I am sorry. What did you say? I was busy preparing some M&M's to be eaten, and I could not hear you above all the noise.

When it comes to food, I never try to influence others. According to scripture, being able to eat food is a gift from God, and if others prefer different types of gifts than I do, then I am fine with that.

Ecc 2:24
There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.

Ecc 3:13
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

Having said that, I just really dislike dry food. Partly because it just sits in my throat like sand, and if I don't immediately wash it down with some sort of drink, then I feel as if I would suffocate. That might sound exaggerated, but that is truly how I feel.

Unlike you, I pretty much put some sort of dressing, sauce, or gravy on just about everything that I eat, but I agree with you on the mayo thing. I have never been a fan of mayo; with the sole exception of putting some on a BLT sandwich.

As far as your offer to eat any unwanted M&M's that I might have in my possession is concerned, that is so benevolent of you. I could ship them to you, and I would not have to worry about them getting damaged in transit because they are already coated with STEEL!

about dry hard breads. i used to dine at the Tavern On The Green in Manhattan often & especially at breakfast time, they served complimentary hard rolls. nobody ate those weapons. i would look around to all the tables & see full plates of rolls. they were good for starting a food fight!!!

Yeah....
I know the place. They have some great ideas about food and some lousy ones.

Hard rolls are one of the lousy ones.
Hard rolls are a fine bread....but they need to be sliced in half or thirds to be edible. You literally can't chew them because you must first break the crust with your teeth. Nobody opens their mouth that wide. And the women will leave a huge lipstick stain if they try.

I went there once.

The only thing that hard rolls are good for is an emergency back up if your kid breaks his bat during a Little League baseball game.

Okay, maybe they serve another useful purpose. Like fending off a would-be mugger on the streets of New York City.

Now you have me thinking about pretzels. I would choose a soft pretzel over a hard pretzel stick any day of the week. Seriously, eating hard bread or eating hard pretzels is like eating wood, and I am not a termite. I never realized the degree of my disdain for hard foods until I joined in on some recent threads here.

How about women?

Would you prefer a soft living one or a hard mannequin?

Okay, now I have gone off the deep end.

Vegetables ftw!

I love vegetables, if I prepare them. I know I say that a lot, but I'm just very partial to my own cooking lol.
My favorite is roasted Brussels sprouts.
I also like to water-sauté broccoli, onion, and mushrooms. I also like to do that with green beans.
Thyme roasted carrots are tasty.
I enjoy cooked spinach, asparagus, bamboo shoots, cabbage, collards, okra, spaghetti squash, summer squash, zucchini, etc.
I do a lot with zucchini, from savory recipes to sweet recipes.
In the produce section, I often load up on onions, garlic, mushrooms, and zucchini, plus whatever I'm in the mood for or whatever is in season.
