If you don't have much dating experience, I could see the utility on going on a blind date. Are the odds he/she will be your future marriage partner? Probably not, but it gives you experience that could prove to be beneficial one day. Even if the person is nothing like you are looking for, you will have a better understanding of what you're wanting/not wanting in addition to exposure in the dynamics of dating. The more practice, the less awkward you are (generally speaking).

As for me personally, no thanks.

thatzphunnneee! because about 40 years ago, i was at a bar playing pool & i had the idea of dating a girl as a blind date. so being in the pool room, off in the distance in the barroom, i saw a girl sitting at the bar with her back to me but it was half dark. i could see that she was wearing an attractive black dress. & i made up my mind no matter what she looked like, i would date her if she said yes. so when done pool playing, i introduced myself. she was on the large side which i totally despise but a bit pretty. we dated about 3 times & that was it.
Drinking?

Went on basically a blind date last September. I saw her photos on a Christian dating app. Did not look like her at all.

When I arrived for the church date, she looked at me like I was a disgusting pig. What a start to a date, while the wheels in her mind were churning, like ā€œwhy am I doing this?ā€

She is very quiet and then then tells me that she has been looking for work for like years and no one will hire her.

I told her, ā€œUsually people value a great first impression with a winning atritude.ā€

We get to the church, she is still very quiet. The Sunday sermon was excellent, the presence of God was there, except while the pastor was preaching, she shows me on her phone an event that was happening that day and asks if I want to go to a beach rave. I decline her offer, as I was expecting to have a good beginning to a relationship if it became one.

After church, she tells me we are better off friends and that she is ā€œtiredā€ and drops me off at the bus stop.

By the way, it took me three hours, two buses and two trains there, just to go on a date.

So, I take two trains and two buses back home, completely torn apart by what just happened.

Next day, I message her and tell her, I donā€™t think this is going to work out.

She immediately wants to go on more dates with me and I tell her, ā€œI already made my decisionā€ and never spoke to her again.

So, I guess blind dates arenā€™t always so great.

Well, I used to have a pretty horrible drinking problem. Which led to a lot of one night to one year stands.
i'm glad for you that you came thru your alcohol issue. i can take alcohol or leave it. often, i would quit drinking for years. alcohol never effected me, even when i used to drink 30 to 40 drinks in the span of 3 to 4 hours.

You started talking soon as I sat down
Giving me tips on love
Saying how I was good-looking
The kind of guy most women were dreaming of
Then after just about an hour or so
You started pointing out the girls I should get to know
Sure enough, I thought I fell in love
You kept saying, "Go, man, go!"

But, Jack Daniel's, you lied to me again
(Yes, you did)
You told me that she was the greatest thing
That ever happened to a man
You said this was it, she was the one
And I'd still be in love when the morning comes
But, Jack Daniel's, you lied to me again
(Yes, you did)

I used to count on old Jim Beam
But he kept letting me down
He'd line me up with a rodeo queen
Next day, she'd be looking like a rodeo clown
Jose Cuervo couldn't find me a beauty
And Johnny Walker failed when he said he could
Yeah, all of you fellows are real smooth talkers
But your eyesight's not too good

But, Jack Daniel's, you lied to me again
(Yes, you did.)
You told me that she was the greatest thing
That ever happened to a man
You said this was it, she was the one
And I'd still be in love when the morning comes
But, Jack Daniel's, you lied to me again
(Yes, you did.)

I'm forgetting about wine, women and song
And the next time I go out, you ain't coming along

I discovered that it is best to just go with a 10/10 because she wonā€™t have any doubts that you are into her. No trying to make her feel good because she feels ugly. You can be straight up a hundred percent honest with her, instead of having to try and repair her insecurity.

"All my dates have been the square root of -100. A solid 10, but also imaginary."

There are two problems with getting a date with a 10. One, a 10 is perfectly aware that she can get something better than us. Two, there is a reason she drove herself to become a 10. You probably don't want anything to do with that reason.

I thank you for the wisdom. My dad told me the same thing.

Apart of me wants to find out though.

Every woman that Iā€™ve been serious with, seem to be very insecure about their looks and it gets exhausting telling them I like really like them a lot, with it not always being about what someone looks like.

It seems like maybe half of my relationships have ended because of how insecure they were about their looks. They would constantly tell me that they have no idea why Iā€™m with them, like Iā€™m some prize. News flash: ā€œIā€™m notā€

The only reason Iā€™m alive is because of Godā€™s grace, that is it. According to society, Iā€™m a waste of life but to God, Iā€™m His child.

I can pray that He is building me up for someone special but all of the pain, going through another failed relationship, just is unbearable sometimes.

And I can't figure out why you want me around.
I'm not the smartest person I have ever met.
But somehow that doesn't matter,
No it really never mattered to you at all.

And at the risk of wearing out my welcome.
At the risk of self-discovery,
I'll take every moment,
And every minute that you give me.

Well, that would have been nice before each relationship ended.

When someone seems to be constantly pushing you away from them, you kinda wonder if you should just walk away.

So I did.

I just reread this and it reminds me of a parody commerciai. If you or anyone searches in google: ā€œSouth Park Alcohol Commercialā€ it is usually what most alcoholics think about alcohol before they become an alcoholic. It is hilarious but so true.
