PeacefulWarrior...uh, you just told us that you don't know for certain and that you weren't there.....so the BIG question is: "Why continue this Book of Mormon forum? Jesus is not getting the glory for it....and it has run over the cliff and crashed. Move on and see what the BIBLE, the book of all books, has to say to you, personally.
Generally, when people address me or quote me I will respond.
I read this thread a little while ago, and at the time I didn't see any legitimate answers to: "Is the Book of Mormon legit?"
That's why I posted.

It seems that my critical thinking and questioning is often misinterpreted as supporting or promoting the contrary view.

Wondering what you guys think about this. I have a few Mormon acquaintances that I dearly love, and I'm just curious about the legitimacy of the actual Book that they incorporate into their walks with God.
yes.It is legitimately false doctrine! Mormons deny the deity of Christ.

Ok...first off, a confession....I have only read the first three pages of this thread, so if anything I add is a repeat of something already posted, my appologies.

I took a class on "what do Mormons believe" once thru church and it was truly facinating. I wish I could recall the video series they showed.

The reason I was wanting to learn about them is because a family moved directly next door to me, and they were mormon. They had children, the mom was close to my same age....so I really wanted to know what I was up against, so I could lead my own children properly if it ever came up.
They are SUCH nice people. I like them very much. They are kind, generous. Willing to help at a moments notice, and to call up any local missionaries to come and help too. But sometimes, I think that is how it becomes so appealing to people. They want a sense of belonging....family. And from everything I have seen, and experienced with the mormons I have been in contact with....they seem to have that in abundance. That can be quite the draw, and very appealing.

MANY years ago, when I was in college in Kansas, I (and two other college friends) were traveling home to Oregon for the Christmas break. We got as far as Spanish Fork Utah at around 3am when my car completely broke down. We walked to a lit up building about a mile and a half away that ended up being a convenience store/mechanics shop. There were two sisters there and they offered to call their dad who owned the place.
He came immedietly....by the time he got us to his house, the wife had already had beds made up for us etc. They were so nice to us when we were in need. The car was not going to be running anymore as the engine block was cracked....but they let us stay, and fed us etc until my brother in law made it there from Oregon to pick us up. Never once did they push their mormonism on us at all....but when it was time to leave, they did want to give all three of us (and my brother in law) a copy of the book of mormon. When we declined, they did not appear offended, and were gracious.

Now, back to the first family I spoke of....(my neighbors). Since they were next door, we spent a lot of time together, and I got to know them quite well. One thing I learned was quite interesting to say the least.

(I can't make this stuff up......)

They wear special 'underwear' called garments. (mhm...you read it correctly) But it gets even better.....these 'garments' have special symbols on them in areas over certain areas (if my memory serves correct) that are meant to protect them. They symbols are from the freemasons.

They only time they do not wear them is when swimming, or bathing. She told me that they are even to wear them when exercising.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_garment

There are MANY more articles about the special 'protective' undies.....but I went the easy Wiki route.

So yea....they have been some super scriptures shared about not adding to the word of God because the Holy Bible is complete. etc. BUt this is also not scriptural....we are to not live in fear. Also, when Jesus came, there was no need to have anything to connect or bridge that gap between us and God.....that is the Trinity. Which mormons also do not believe in.

Here is just one article I have referenced before....but there are numerous ones out there.

Why Mormons Don't Believe In The Trinity ... Part I

They Judeo-Christian faith believes in the Trinity as a core believe. There is no mention of anything called a 'Godhead' to interchanche with the Trinity of the Father/Son/Holy Spirit.

I hope that some of what I have written helps answer your orriginal question about the book of mormon as well as some others you may have come up with as this thread has unfolded.

Blessings as you continue to seek out the truth. Take care

Really? I thought Smith had eyewitnesses also. I don't know for certain (I'm not Mormon and I wasn't there).
Well, you could've fooled me. You certainly believe some whacked out stuff that isn't biblical in the least.

Do you have a point, besides instigating trouble? What "whacked out stuff"??

You can always Google "Why I left the Mormon church" (or any other church or religion, for that matter) and Christian Apologetics & Research type ministries. There's always lots of testimonies online that can give you clearer insight.

I read that the Smithsonian Institute denies any claims about any Mormon historical artifacts, cities, documents, engravings, heroes, etc. because they say there isn't a shred of evidence. And the Book of Abraham that was translated by Joseph Smith supposedly by the "power of God' was later discovered to be nothing more than Egyptian funerary texts (guides that were buried with mummies). They were also proven to have been written 1,500 years AFTER Abraham lived. So Abraham could not have written that book.

YankeesGurl....guess what...not all people in hell now or who will enter hell later, are criminals, misfits, deranged, murderers, thieves or molesters. What is left? Decent, well mannered, 'nice" looking, acting people who have totally rejected JESUS CHRIST...even some of those you have mentioned in your comments. Yes..sad but true.......hell awaits anyone rejecting JESUS as their Savior, no matter how sweet, how sincere, how thoughtful or awesome they are to other humans. What matters is what they do with JESUS CHRIST. and that includes Mormons.

this is a good post speaks volume for I also have seen some so called followers of Christ and say their heart is full of Love for Christ but yet when someone else has their heart open they come along and do a song and dance and stomp all over their loving hearts. this is what the Love of Jesus means to these people, to put down another, to try and embarrass others, to be mean to others with potty mouths because in their minds it's just because it makes them feel better. these folks have not a clue, their lost in a concept they have fathomed in their own mind about how Jesus walked and talked with others.

It's unfortunate these types of followers of Jesus in reality they no nothing of the Heart of Jesus and how he lived and breathed Love. my hope for them is to really take a hard look at them selves and reason with their minds that the path they have been on, has been a path of destruction in their wake. For Jesus loved and excepted others even hearts that are just a muster seed open and are willing to change and give Love a chance. Jesus would always meet them walk with them talk with them and when they are tired and in need of change and rest, He would pick them up and carry them the rest of the way..

I am curious why you wrote this in reply to what I posted?
I thought I made it clear that I thought they were a hot mess, as well as in agreement with what others said about being a cult. (Stating that because of how they involve themselves wig your life and give a sense of family and community etc.). I also referenced agreement to the scripture other previously stated, as well as adding things that DO NOT line up with the judeo-Christian faith such as believing in a godhead instead of supporting the trinity etc.

I look forward to your response. Blessings!

You either believe Christ or Smith. Smith didn't die on a cross to save you. Christ did. Should be an easy choice.
"You either believe Christ or Smith" implies that you know their relationship with God and their messages. I do not know Joseph Smith's message--do you? Mormons claim his message only enhances Christ's message.

Mormons are a facet of this world's Christianity, sure, just like any version or denomination in the institutions of religion.
Mormonism is not just another denomination of Christianity, it's another religion entirely. Maybe look into what they really believe before claiming that they believe the same essentials.
Someone brought me back to this thread, and I wish to address this issue above. Read my words, Tintin. God gave one religious system to this world and He took it away on the cross. God gave His Christians to the world, but He is not the God of this thing called Christendom, essentials or otherwise.

The gospel of your salvation, what essentials are declared by it? What must we believe to be saved by the gospel of the grace of God and become 'saints', sealed unto the day of redemption. Lies are believed in every church of Christendom, God does not demand creeds, sacraments, essentials, tenets of faith for us and our salvation, the doctrines of men do.

I used to have this book, full of great knowledge from theologians that I loved, there was a paragraph from Luther, said something along the lines of, let there be heresies of doctrines, let them come as they may, as long as the gospel remain pure among us all.
