I'm 16, and my mother is terrible to me. I used to be spiritual, but I've lost that hope.
Lately things have been really bad and I'm legally stuck. I've always wanted to be Christian, but I have a hard time believing in things I can't see, or touch. Kind of. I'm very superstitious. I know I have to POWER to believe in God, but I feel like I'm trying not to, even though it's all I want. I think too scientifically, thinking of every reason why these religious things dont make sense.
My family is upset by my decision to become religious, but I love it so much. When I say, "Yeah, I'm Christian." It's so powerful, and I love feeling like I belong, and that I have God always there for me.
But I'm so new, and don't know where to start. Once I return home to my mother, I'm planning on joining my local Church. But I don't want to walk in totally unaware of everything.
Any suggestions or help for me? Any new friends willing to help a new kid out?
Thank you, I appreciate your time :)

your problem seems to be common for me.. well.. to start off.. i just wanna tell you that God has a reason why He brought you here.. and just to clarify.. "religious" is very much different from being "Godly".. religious means you are referring to a person who is very devoted to his religion and it is much more blessed to be Godly.. Godly means full of God.. having God in your life.

now, about your situation.. i simply want to recommend you to have Ephesians 2:8-9 as your meditation.. Romans 10:17 .. well..and let me emphasize that FAITH is believing in things you can't see.. also read Matthew 7:7-8.. God is the light.. ^^ God bless you and keep seeking God.. just message me whenever you need someone to talk to and of course.. never forget to look up.. Jeremiah 33:3 ^^ :D

Hey Lily, I am sorry to hear that you are having problems practicing your faith in Christ Jesus within your own home. However, I would like to point out that when you become a Christian, things do NOT get easy with the world. Many people thing of Christianity as a soft and easy religion to follow, but Jesus said that
Matthew 10:34-36 said:
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
When you follow Christ the world will hate you and despise you, and sadly many members of your own family may be apart of the world. So when you suffer through any persecution from your family, please do NOT be discouraged, remember that means you are following God.

It can be hard sometimes, but remember that you have the living word of God at your hands, and you can always find comfort through your bible, because God DOES talk to you through it. So when you are spiritually attacked through your family and friends and feel like it is not worth it anymore, always seek after God. He WILL help you.

Also about your doubts in the existence of God, I would like to remind you that Science is not 100% correct, it is just the collection of various theories and ideas pertaining to the nature of the universe. These are thoughts from man based on their interpretations on the evidence they say. However these interpretations can be wrong. So Science itself does work with God, because Science is trying to explain what God did and is currently doing, but do not accept any theory out there. Make sure to compare it to the bible then pray for answers. Many things in Science also back up Christianity such as Scientists proving that the plagues Moses brought on Egypt actually happened, or Evolution explaining how all the various species in the world could fit on Noah's ark. Just because the world says Science disagrees with the bible does NOT make it true. Look at the verses OWNED provided as well. It is important to have that strong faith in God even though the eyes of your flesh may not see them, but remember the eyes of your heart can always see God and his glory in this world.

So remember to keep praying and reading your Bible while under your persecution, and continually pray to God that he will show himself to your family that they might see the truth as well. If you do have any further problems feel free to message me (although I am a new member so I am not entirely sure of the requirements for Private Messaging) or post your problem on here. May God continue to help you through these hard times and do not forget what he has done for you thus far.

Your Brother in Christ,
Agravesx

Do it for God, not for a feeling... when I read the Bible I thought about scientific reasoning and realized it's a pretty silly thing to do. Were talking about God here... ya know a powerful being that made the universe... the universe we barely have any understanding of.... and yet somehow it makes sense to use science (our own understanding) to figure out God? It's silly and maybe even arrogant if we think we can figure it out. We can only figure out what we can.... but when it comes to God and spiritual things that's something beyond us and that's why have to just have faith in God's word. God changed my life and brought me out of racism... where science... drove me towards racism .... God told me to wait until marriage... I have been waiting and as a result I avoid seeing women as sexual objects... without God... within our own understanding (science you might call it, thats basically what science is) I would've seduced girls , use em up... and look for more girls to take advantage of. God said don't lie... and ya know life is a lot nicer and less trouble without lieing.... it's better this way... God's ways are just better, more then better, perfect and good and the only way.

I'll say a prayer for you... and if you wanna be christian, just recognize that theres something wrong with you, that you've done bad things and unfortunately because God's standards are so high bad things, like lieing stealing, hatred, adultery, dishonoring your father or mother... evil things give people a ticket to hell aka Death and ya I know that's not what you want to happen. And God doesn't want that for you either but we as human beings are corrupted and we do bad things so anyways... God sent Jesus Christ to be a good person, Jesus Christ never lied, stole, etc etc never commited sin so he accomplished being a good person for us... and then sacrificed himself, taking on Death for us... so you dont have to go to hell (Death), Jesus took it for us... and then he resurrected so we know that he conquered death and he says that if you believe in him and humbly accept his forgiveness then you'll be forgiven from all your sins. That means no hell and then you'll have God in your life and you can call yourself a Christian to live a Christian life and also evangelize.

I wish I could "Love" a post instead of merely liking it. Thank you, for responding. You have wonderful points, and the way you described Jesus, made me cry. Thank you, thank you. And I've always had Christian morals. Although I find lying about little things is the hardest. Like telling my grandmother she's already told me that story when she hasn't... I feel bad about it and fess up. But I'm also a virgin still, waiting for marriage. I live the most Sinless life I can anyways, but again... It's the little things.
Thank you for the support and knowledge you've given :)

Im the only one in my household who is trying to follow jesus and live by his word. Im often told i overthink the word too much (take it seriously unlike others). Or as my mom said the the other day I'm always acting like ms right right right or something like that and she told me I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do and you do what you do basically although she's still using me and. I feel as if she despises me often. So its really hard trying to live right when the people your around still live in sina dn don't care to leave it. I know ill end up being hated as christ said but hey its ok its best we do the time with no crime and be free in love for eternity. So don't worry about how everyone else feels if they're not truly following him they probably won't be to fond of it all anyways...just follow Jesus. And rebuke that spirit of unbelief.

God bless you

Well i am 13. I do believe in God and that he is my savior,But there is a part of me that has to much Pride to tell my friend's That im a full christian. Because i dont want them to judge me and quit being my friend. So i dont know who to talk to. All though i did talk to my Preacher at my Church He told me that If they was my real friends that i wouldnt have to worry about them judging me. So i swallowed my pride and Told them. When i did they started Jumping on me and hitting me. So i had to fight back when i did i was so mad at them that i didnt stop hitting them. Then when the Cops got there thats when i relized that i lost faith in god. Ever since then i have been to scared to go back to Church and tell my Preacher. Because i Am having a hard time trusting anyone. Because i dont know if they are going to Jump on me Because of what i did and what my beliefs are. Please help me. Im a 13 Year old Boy who is seriously confused.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear that you have had been hurt because of your beliefs, and at such a young age too! :( Aside from you preacher, is there youth group that you are able to attend to meet other Christians, and maybe talk with a youth pastor? The reason I ask is because, it appears like you are going through this all on your own. Having community may help ease the burden a bit. We are meant to be in fellowship with each other: Jesus said, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them”- Matthew 18:20. He doesn't want you to go through it all on your own. I think it would do you some good to find a good christian community of people your age, because they mostly likely have gone through similar issues. You can lean on each other for support. This might help build trust and foster your growing faith. In the meantime, if you want, we can be your community :)

Bless you sweetie for seeking the Light :)

I didn't grow up in a Christian family either so I know what it's like stumbling around in the dark. You may have to endure negative comments from your family but I urge you to continue following the leading of the Holy Spirit in your life. The benefits are ENORMOUS.

Just go ahead and start attending church. You don't need any 'preparation' ...just go! Before Satan talks you out of it.

I highly recommend the QUEST study bible for teens. It's absolutely wonderful for explaining things.

Praying for guidance, strength, and courage as you pursue God's face, dear heart :). He loves you immensely and desires you to become a member of His family :) .

If you tend to think scientifically about the world, may I suggest apologetics. There are many rational reasons to believe in God. In fact if you let superstitions drive you, you're doing it wrong.

Listen to one of the best apologists of our time, Ravi Zacharias. This particular lecture/sermon is great for a new christian. Link Below.

Lily if I may give you a small piece of Jewel of Wisdom. For years I tried to be a Christian. I would wake up and pray asking God to help me be a better Christian and walk in the Spirit. I struggled a lot during those days until I learned something so very important to Christianity. It is not about trying to be a good Christian, it is just about BEING. For example, as a child you never had to get up and tell yourself that you had to be a good child of your parents, you were automatically a child of your parent so you took that IDENDITY. A BORN AGAIN person of GOD is automatically a child of HIS and HE is automatically your FATHER. You automatically take that idententy, it is not a work that you have to try. Just bask in the FATHERS LOVE and your love to HIM will automatically flow to HIM back. Meditate what HE did for you completely and it is a guarenty that you will REST IN HIS LOVE. It is all about what JESUS did for you on the cross and has nothing to do of what you can do for HIM. Phl 3:3 KJV For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Psalm 27:8
You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.”

Seek Jesus sister, personal testimony, i use to be close to Jesus and as time progressed things happened and i went apart from him, there came a time after some bad things had happened, i though to myself why would God want me, what if i seek him and he doesnt want to be found by me, you have to silence these thoughts! God is waiting for you, you need to seek him in prayer, i would seek him in prayer, in his word and what happened was day time after time he started to become more real, so you might not feel his reality now but thats what is meant by seeking his face, he will bcome more and more real as you seek him.

Let NOTHING stop you, even your heart, he wont break it, trust him, he is faithful, i can testifiy to that, how many times i thought i was cut off! thank you Jesus!

1 Samuel 3
19And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground. 20And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD. 21And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.

John 6:37
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

God Bless you and may he draw you close to himself, in Jesus name, Amen!

Dear Lily Noelle:

I was your age when I started my journey to become a "Good Christian" fifty five years ago. I have never regretted my decision to become a Christian. My faith has provided meaning, purpose, guidance, direction, and stability to my life. At age sixteen we desperately need purpose and direction for our lives. We need the moral principals of the Christian faith to help us deal with others with honesty and integrity. I hope that your Christian faith will provide you with what you seek.

To become a "Good Christian" you have to first become a "Christian". Becoming a Christian is as simple as following the Bible verse.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The most difficult part about becoming a Christian is the blind trust and faith you have to place in the teachings of the Bible and the Christian faith. There will always be questions, doubts, and fears about your faith that can not be proven and will never be fully answered.

There are no set rules you must follow to become a "Good Christian. My best answer to your question is:

Approach your faith with the trust and faith of a small child.

Use the Bible to guide your life and to grow in your Christian faith.

Find a church that you feel comfortable in.

Use the power of prayer to aid you.

Seek always to develop a closer personal relationship with Christ.

The task is difficult but the rewards are great.

God bless and guide you on your journey of faith!
