Depends on the content of each one.

I love Grave of the fireflies, but there are many others out there that I can manage prefectly well without

I think, like any movie or cartoon, it depends on the content. Before I came back to the Lord, I would watch Hellsing, Elfen Lied, Devil May Cry anime etc, but now I've lost an appetite for those kinds of things. I've traded the violent, gory and supernatural animes for innocent high school romances where it takes a whole season for anyone to confess their feelings to one another.

I think it depends on you as well. Some things the Holy Spirit might convict you of watching or viewing.

Anime is a artistic medium. In itself there is nothing wrong, rather it is those who use it that make it morally questionable. So its up to the viewer to decide if they are mature enough to steer clear of the harmful shows, and if not stay clear of it as a whole.

hehe I think it's funny what you said. It takes them a whole season to confess their love to each other lol.

But only girls can watch those anime shows.

Well, if there are things which go off into sin, like witchcraft and fornication, pornography or sexual humor, then we should avoid it then.

Anyone who reads my statement above, and who has watched anime (especially those which are subtitled) will quickly realize the following: that if a person would hold to these convictions when choosing an anime, then that would exclude many of the thousands of anime cartoons out there. This, even I, know it to be true.

I am being serious; finding a good anime (I prefer the subtitled anime) without anything particularly bad is very difficult. So far, I've seen one that was great, and which violated none of the things mentioned in my statement above, and that is Moshidora.

Of course, there are the anime cartoons which are made for children, which also can be fun to watch; one of my personal favorites being Digimon. But, nevertheless, one has to be careful in what they allow into their mind, not just with anime, but with any form of entertainment.

Another anime which I liked was Tari Tari.

I watched Anohana, because of the hype. I wanted to see what was all the big fuss about. Yes, if you watch it unto the end, it can be very moving, but it does contain some unnecessary crudity and terrible subtitling, which leads me to also add that the subtitling in anime (meaning that you're watching the cartoon in the original Japanese voices) can be downright awful; they generally include a myriad of vulgar words applied to Japanese phrases which should have received a better translation. This is a personal peeve of mine, and one that serves to ruin the experience of watching anime.

Just some thoughts.

I love those highschool romance animes because of the innocence. Its refreshing to watch them, and to be honest, they teach me a lot about patience.

It may not seem like something men would likely want to watch, but I would probably recommend it for most men. I am so accustomed to sitting down and watchhing a movie or series based on the cheating, lying and unfaithful hero who raises adultery on some pedestal. It seems like basing any kind of form of entertainment on innocence and a patient and tender love is rare and left field.

For me, I love the art of Anime. I hate that when I search Anime, however, I come up with some seriously sexual content, so I have to keep my filters rather high and be very careful of the words I search. I rarely ever search Anime due to this, but when I do, it is usually because I am inspired to draw something and need inspiration. :)

As for watching Anime, I don't think it is wrong, so long as you're selective. God has told me that I cannot watch Anime, for reasons I won't go into here, but that is what He told me and I know why He said so. I don't think it's a no-no for others, so long as they are aware of what is being revealed and they are brutally selective in their viewing choices. :)

To ask whether anime is okay is like asking if books are okay. It's a form of art and storytelling and it is the content of those stories that requires discernment on our part. Personally, I find the artistic style of most Japanese anime to be very appealing, but I know that there are a lot of shows that have very worldly subject matter. I just stay away from those and appreciate any anime I find that is both imaginative and wholesome.

And we all know books are NOT okay... especially for women.

Nothing more frustrating than a woman who can read and write.

Exactly how I feel. I love the art, and I also love the portrayal of Japanese life and culture. I believe that is also a driving force of anime; it's popularity is owed to an interest in their manners and language, their culture and the people of Japan. A statement from the Anime article in Wikipedia says this: " Since the 19th century, many Westerners have expressed a particular interest towards Japan (Japanophile) and anime has dramatically exposed more Westerners to the culture of Japan."

Unfortunately, Japan is so overtly sexual, even allowing young girls as young as 11 or 12 to model in very inappropriate positions in modeling. They have been considered a nation of perverts (yes, even the women), and this is revealed in anime, which tends to (in spite of their exaggerations and fantastical themes) be realistic in portraying people very realistically in their body structures; from this, they are able to have these characters perform various sexual acts which seem very real and can arouse lust in men and women.

But, with a nation that boasts a low number of Christians, what can be expected?

It seems that we're in agreement. It's just a shame that there can't be alot more anime cartoons that can considered imaginative and wholesome, while being ... (how should I put this) not perverted or with alot of ecchi or with alot of inappropriate curse words.

I read somewhere one time that due to the way women are portrayed in Anime, that it often leads to pornography. It's sad that kids can't be kids, that they have sexual content thrown at them constantly.
