Too much witchcraft and magic, too much pagan spiritualism from Japan ... nah.

Not to mention the fact that many anime have ecchi and girls dressed up very inappropriately.

Not to mention the curse words galore that is in anime.

But, this is a characteristic of this Laodecian age; "Christians" don't really care what they allow into their spirits, and what they accept for their own personal entertainment; it gives them alittle edge with the world, and they are thereby content.

Plus, it seems to me that a majority of anime is created by perverts; they all seem to have a fetish of 'pantsu' and cleavage and those short skirts that they allow Japan for their schoolgirls. Honestly, many of these creators of anime also seem to be either atheistic (considering how loosely they will use Christian references) or utterly pagan (seen in many of the Studio Ghibli movies).

But, we just happen to be that generation of Christians that are more interested in our entertainment and fleshly desire (whether it come by paganism, it matters not) instead of personal holiness.

Agreed about shows with nudity, excessive violence and gore, but also things with really dark witch craft and demon themes but that really applies to all media.
I watch/read a lot more shojo anime and manga so Fruits Basket, Lovely Complex, I My Me Strawberry Eggs. And slice of life films like Summer Wars and Whispers of the Heart.

I have recently found a strange love for "sports" anime. Like Hikaru no Go and Chihayafuru even tho those are both technically not sports but culturally specific competitive gaming. I also loved Crimson Hero back when it was being published. Can anyone reccomend anything else like this??

On a more serious note, With the Light is a manga focusing on a mother raising her Autistic son in modern Japan. It's currently blowing my mind.
I stayed away from Hikaru no Go, because the spirit of the man that followed Hikaru reminded me of the familiar spirits that the Lord condemns.

But if you want to watch a good sports anime, watch Moshidora! It's good!

You seem to have a very limited understanding of what anime entails. It's not a genre but a medium. There are plenty of appropriate anime or anime with little content issues. I've watched quite a few series and some movies and most have little to no sexual content (beyond maybe a little wordplay). Take stock of what you're watching. Also, what do you expect from Japan? A Christian worldview? No, it's a Shinto/Buddhist/Atheistic culture and their anime generally reflect that. Although Trigun, Fullmetal Alchemist and Puella mine the Christian faith for themes and references. I can watch something like Spirited Away without feeling the need to join in with pagan Japanese rituals. Know thyself.

It just depends on the individual show, man. Watch something good and it's fine. With anime, the only one I really watch any more is One Piece, but I'd say it is perfectly fine for the most part.

Tintin ... you've, in a way, repeated everything I've said in this thread lol.

But it's all good. At least we agree.

My first sentence,

"Too much witchcraft and magic, too much pagan spiritualism from Japan ... nah. "

is describing what I myself stay away from; and yes, what I feel every born again Christian should feel they should stay away from.

Look, I'll share my first comment on this thread, and you'll see some similarities on our language.

Tintin, here was my first comment: "Well, if there are things which go off into sin, like witchcraft and fornication, pornography or sexual humor, then we should avoid it then.

"Anyone who reads my statement above, and who has watched anime (especially those which are subtitled) will quickly realize the following: that if a person would hold to these convictions when choosing an anime, then that would exclude many of the thousands of anime cartoons out there. This, even I, know it to be true.

"I am being serious; finding a good anime (I prefer the subtitled anime) without anything particularly bad is very difficult. So far, I've seen one that was great, and which violated none of the things mentioned in my statement above, and that is Moshidora.

"Of course, there are the anime cartoons which are made for children, which also can be fun to watch; one of my personal favorites being Digimon. But, nevertheless, one has to be careful in what they allow into their mind, not just with anime, but with any form of entertainment.

"Another anime which I liked was Tari Tari.

"I watched Anohana, because of the hype. I wanted to see what was all the big fuss about. Yes, if you watch it unto the end, it can be very moving, but it does contain some unnecessary crudity and terrible subtitling, which leads me to also add that the subtitling in anime (meaning that you're watching the cartoon in the original Japanese voices) can be downright awful; they generally include a myriad of vulgar words applied to Japanese phrases which should have received a better translation. This is a personal peeve of mine, and one that serves to ruin the experience of watching anime.

Just some thoughts."

And here is my second, Tintin:

"I love the art, and I also love the portrayal of Japanese life and culture. I believe that is also a driving force of anime; it's popularity is owed to an interest in their manners and language, their culture and the people of Japan. A statement from the Anime article in Wikipedia says this: " Since the 19th century, many Westerners have expressed a particular interest towards Japan(Japanophile) and anime has dramatically exposed more Westerners to the culture of Japan."

"Unfortunately, Japan is so overtly sexual, even allowing young girls as young as 11 or 12 to model in very inappropriate positions in modeling. They have been considered a nation of perverts (yes, even the women), and this is revealed in anime, which tends to (in spite of their exaggerations and fantastical themes) be realistic in portraying people very realistically in their body structures; from this, they are able to have these characters perform various sexual acts which seem very real and can arouse lust in men and women.

"But, with a nation that boasts a low number of Christians, what can be expected?"
