Have you heard the things Jehovah's Witnesses are called? And all they're doing is being clean cut and inviting people to learn what God says in the Bible. They are recognized by governments all over the world as being law abiding and helpful citizens. I got teased growing up because I didn't celebrate holidays and because when other kids would try to get me to do something I knew was wrong I would choose to obey God instead of follow along with the other kids. I lost that control when I stopped worshiping and following God's laws the way Christ lived them. But I got strong again because I went back to God in prayer and I began reading and searching his words for instruction, and talking about what I was learning with anyone who was willing to take out their Bible and talk about it. Because God was already taking the lead at my request, I became strong again. The stronger I get the more like a "weirdo" I sound I guess. You tell me, do I sound like a "weirdo" now?
Tell me the truth I won't be offended. I know that if the Bible sounds weird or strange and offends someone enough that they feel a need to ridicule and discourage me from something that can lead to me happiness and well being, then all I can do is pity them. And that's worst than receiving ignorant names from ignorant people.
We've been studying the Bible book of Jeremiah at the congregation meetings. Jeremiah was just one of our historic Christian brothers who had to endure name calling, laughter and torture just because he was going out and teaching the "good news" of God's Kingdom. But he didn't stop talking about God, because it was like "a burning fire shut up in his bones". (Jeremiah 20:8,9) Faith in God will lead us to not be offended. Because we were told to expect it and we (should) know that it is more important to stay focused on the important things that pertain to God and his kingdom, than to be distracted with the non sense of other humans.
