Have you heard the things Jehovah's Witnesses are called? And all they're doing is being clean cut and inviting people to learn what God says in the Bible. They are recognized by governments all over the world as being law abiding and helpful citizens. I got teased growing up because I didn't celebrate holidays and because when other kids would try to get me to do something I knew was wrong I would choose to obey God instead of follow along with the other kids. I lost that control when I stopped worshiping and following God's laws the way Christ lived them. But I got strong again because I went back to God in prayer and I began reading and searching his words for instruction, and talking about what I was learning with anyone who was willing to take out their Bible and talk about it. Because God was already taking the lead at my request, I became strong again. The stronger I get the more like a "weirdo" I sound I guess. You tell me, do I sound like a "weirdo" now?

Tell me the truth I won't be offended. I know that if the Bible sounds weird or strange and offends someone enough that they feel a need to ridicule and discourage me from something that can lead to me happiness and well being, then all I can do is pity them. And that's worst than receiving ignorant names from ignorant people.

We've been studying the Bible book of Jeremiah at the congregation meetings. Jeremiah was just one of our historic Christian brothers who had to endure name calling, laughter and torture just because he was going out and teaching the "good news" of God's Kingdom. But he didn't stop talking about God, because it was like "a burning fire shut up in his bones". (Jeremiah 20:8,9) Faith in God will lead us to not be offended. Because we were told to expect it and we (should) know that it is more important to stay focused on the important things that pertain to God and his kingdom, than to be distracted with the non sense of other humans.

Yup! God basically described the world in the "Last Days" as stupid. It like... someone tells you "___ this kind of behavior is stupid and will cause you problems." Then you say "OK" and continue about your business doing things the same way, because you haven't taken the time to consider the wisdom of not doing STUPID things. That's how individuals help create the big world problem. Does being a "weirdo" mean you're not a "stupid idiot"? I'll be a weirdo any day....I know I'm Quirky.

I'm just a Christian. I've grown out of the 'jesus freak have to find some way to sound different' phase since i've gotten older. Its just silly labels we use to make ourselves feel like we're outsmarting the people attacking us. Doesn't really matter what label you give yourself, at the end of the day you're still just a Christian.

Jesus hung out with the "good , the bad , and the ugly" persay he befriended the freaks and the weirdos they became his followers. I feel as if I was already a bit weird before I even knew Christ , but he met me where I was at and he used his followers who were just as weird as me to lead me to him. I dont take offense to any kind of ridicule I get from people about my faith. Because nothing is better than the love of Jesus Christ, I do however feel sorry for those people , and I pray for them.

It isnt me giving myself such a title, I've never been like oh hey i'm just a Jesus Freak... I'm simply saying I dont take offense when people refer to me as such. I dont exactly refer to myself as a Christian either so at the end of the day if you feel as if you are still just a Christian, you should probably re-evaluate your walk with the Lord... I have a relationship with Christ and thats so much better than any type of label.

No offense but you realize that the original upside down cross was the "St. Peter's cross" who requested to be crucified upside down as he died, because that way the world would be right side up. They aren't Satanic in their own right, unless you view it that way.

That's not what it has become to modern vernacular, unfortunately. The secular and anti-theistic world has made it a symbol of defamation.

I used it when I was a theist, so I certainly hope I wasn't being anti-theistic. I still see St. Peters cross as Philosophically fascinating even as an atheist, the idea that our world is upside down, that men and women would rather serve themselves then others still very much applies today.

Not to mention primarily satanists would use it, and if you believe in satan you tend to believe in Yahweh which isn't anti-theistic or secular at all. Most anti-theists or secularists I know wouldn't be caught dead with Christian or Satanic imagery on them.

You're preaching to the choir, friend. :-/

Ironically, I knew an Atheist that commonly promoted satanic imagery and notions but was hard set on decrying God. Truly ironic how one can posit a source of evil yet put a source of good on the way side. And he's not alone; a lot of secularists stand behind the argument that evil in and of itself is enough to justify that there is no God.

Evil = No God
Good = Nature? Instinct?

Well how do you define evil? Because of vast cultural differences, religious and politcal beliefes, theres no total concensus on what is good or bad. Coopertiveness amongst animal packs reminds me a lot about humans, having their ocasional upsets and infighting but for the most part acting with some type of dos or donts

The human race is evil. Our basic nature, that which does not come from God, is evil.

I don't think scripture tells us this, or it wouldn't say we are made in the image of God. It also says that we must have forgiveness to be able to live in eternity. We know both good and evil, we have from almost the very first verses of the bible. There is always balance needed as we listen to scripture. There are many statements made in scripture that man have taken to exclude other scriptures. We must listen and recognize all scripture about any one thing.

I think it is wrong to say we are only evil. We are in the image of God, and we are given the Holy Spirit. I think is is wrong to say we are only good, scripture tells us we aren't.

But that doesn't answer my question. Certainly not all we do naturally is evil?

God destroyed the world with a flood because He was so disgusted at how unrelentingly evil the human race was. That was in the time of Noah. The time in which we live could be compared to the time of Noah. You have to admit, the human race is by and large pretty disgusting.

It is only by the grace of God that there is any goodness in mankind. That's my unvarnished opinion.

I love being weird. God told me He set me apart. There are lots of parties I wasn't invited to. But when I lived among the "hippies" when I commerical fished, I could lead many toward the real spiriualism that is Christ. When I worked in the payroll department with 10 others, I was the one they went to if they had questions about God. I hadn't told them about the bible or church, but they knew I knew. I was proud. People come to me to pray with them when they have trouble. I LIKE being weird.

I wouldn't like dressing in weird styles, or being unfriendly, or not listening to other people, or set apart those ways. But being set apart as part of God's family is wonderful.
