but don't forget that with God's grace comes a responsibility to live by God's word, and to set an example to others through good works.

yeah definately. It's so important to have that wisdom and fear of God too for sure. When we're in God's grace though, i don't know how we could ever want to go back to our old life.

I guess Grace is kinda the ability to do the things God wants us to do, or overcome difficult situations. I always thought it was this light and polite atmosphere that made you feel the 'warm fuzzy feeling', but that's really not it! It's huge and heavy, in passionate pursuit of us. It's uncontainable and inescapable! It's a gift from God, giving us the power to overcome, the ability to handle a situation.

In relation to this thread:

Grace applies to homosexuality. You see, you never aquired Grace by worth. You aquired Grace by birth. That birth that saw you into a new creation in Christ, a new nature-Christian is 'Christ in you'. When you became a son or daughter of God, you inherited what was won and proclaimed at the cross; Death was beaten. Homosexuality was overcome.

Claim the God's promises over yourself, declare what he has called you (he calls us lovely). Expect God's awesome plans and blessing for you. Know that, if God gave to you his only son (wow. What a sacrifice, a beautiful demonstration of God's love), than of course he will not hold back any good thing from you!

These are little nuggets that have really set me free in my own little general struggles x

I haven't actually read the entire topic yet, but these are my thoughts on the issue.

First, and most importantly, I have a severe issue with the hate for homosexuals that exists in the church. I think it is a lot rarer than the media generally portrays, but I think that it is there at all is a serious problem. I'm sorry, but I'm positive that if Jesus were here(bodily, of course He is present with us today) today homosexuals would probably be the group that He would reach out to first. I think the church puts far too much attention on the sin of homosexuality, to the extent where it is seen as the unforgivable sin. In fact, I hear more about it than any other sin, which is silly considering how rare homosexuality actually is.

It is our job and duty as Christians to reach out to everyone regardless of who they are or what they do. Someone's inability to love the lost is much more a severe sin than homosexual orientation and behavior.

More directly on topic, I do think it is possible to be a Christian and a homosexual. I think it is possible to be a Christian who commits any sin really (appart from blasphemy of the Spirit, since that is essentially rejecting Christ and you cannot be a Christian who rejects Christ), but it is God alone who knows your sincerity for holy living. In Mere Christianity C.S. Lewis has a wonderful description of his view of people. I can't remember it exactly (I really ought to reread that, haven't read it since high school), but he says something about how we are essentially each individuals who are completely and fully understood by God. He knows EXACTLY what you are and are not capable of. He will not hold it against you if you are physically unable to overcome your sin. Sometimes God delivers us from our sins, but sometimes He does not and I do not think He holds it against us if we cannot help it.

My point comes down to this: I might not struggle with homosexuality, but I have my own sins I suffer through. I am a sinner, and I must daily recognize my sins if I am to accept the grace of God. I need Him every day to help me to overcome them. Martin Luther said we must "sin boldly, but believe and rejoice in Christ more boldly still". He was not giving us an okay to sin, but reminding us that we must first know we are forever sinners if we are to walk in the grace of God.

Upfront (not that it matters), I am not gay.

That being said, I don't know how I feel about whether or not being gay and acting on it is a sin or not...but right now, I'm thinking that it's not. Again: I DON'T KNOW ECACTLY HOW I FEEL.

I know all of the verses that people use to point out that it is wrong and not how God created it.

BUT, I've also heard views on the other side of it. I also study a bit of ancient history in school and know that man-on-man action in the Bible wasn't what it is today. Then, it was talking about rape and that has never been ok. (I also don't have all the facts on this.)

I know Christians who are gay and are ok with God. They feel that it is not a sin (and I know they aren't justifying their sin by saying this--they've actually experienced God's comfort in who they are with this...meaning that they are gay).

So, I was wondering if anyone on here is gay and would like to share how they feel in their relationship with God on this.

Comments from straight people are welcome, too, of course.

I've just been incredibly curious and confused about this for a while.
John 14:15 says...

"If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth." (NIV)

Jesus gave many commandments but the two greatest are found in Mark 12:30-31: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

Of the two, the first (and most important) is to love God. No matter how one looks at it, the second command is second to the first. This is key because we should fulfill the first above all else. The question then should become, what is "love?" Human perception of love is fundamentally flawed. The only true example of love we can learn from is love from God. So, what is God's greatest and best example of love? The greatest example of love is found in John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

God loved the world. What did he do? Did he have warm and fuzzy feelings? No. He performed an action but not just any action - God performed a self-sacrificing action: God gave up his one and only son (and if we get into the Trinity, then God gave up a part of himself) to not only save us but to please us. As we don't deserve salvation, it really is a gift of pleasing to lowly humans! But it doesn't stop there. God doesn't have any expectations of thankfulness or return on his investment and this is true - many people do not accept the gift and even curse His name!

We now have a clear understanding of Godly love. How then can we apply it to love God? Well, if we are to follow his example, then to love God is for us to perform a self-sacrificing action with no expectations of pats on the back, blessings, or similar. That means giving up the things we want most simply to please him. That means if we finally saved up money to purchase that fancy new car, we may end up giving the money to feed 10,000 people. That means if we want to get that medical career in the largest research facility, we may end up with a humbler position providing healing to people in third-world countries. It means that though we want a stable income to stay in our small but safe home, we may end up moving to a poorer area to minister to people who have nothing. It means that if God has specifically made it abundantly clear that he does not like us doing certain things (i.e. sin), then to love God means to put aside how we feel or what we want simply to obey his commands. That's loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind.

The first argument you hear most often from Christian homosexuals is that they feel their choice is acceptable in God's eyes because they feel His love. If they are Christian, then yes, the Holy Spirit is with them and they will feel God and Jesus' love no matter what they do. However, it doesn't mean that what they do is right.

The second common argument is we should love one another (the second commandment) and therefore, homosexuality is acceptable. It is true that we should love one another to fulfill the second commandment. However, it is second. The first is to love the Lord your God. God has made it abundantly clear in both the Old and New Testaments that he disapproves of homosexuality. So to love God is to not to sin because a) it pleases Him, b) it is self-sacrificing on our part (try asking a homosexual to leave their life of homosexuality - it's not easy), and c) there's no return, no pat on the back, no expectations of reward from obedience. It is pointless to fulfill the second commandment if you do not fulfill the first.

The third common argument comes from John 8:1-11. This is about the woman who commits an unknown sin (in some translations, adultery is the sin). The argument states that Jesus forgave the woman and therefore we should not "cast stones." However, the argument does not take into account that Jesus also said "Go now and leave your life of sin." He did not condemn her but he also made it clear that her sin was unacceptable.

Now for the Holy Spirit part. Some homosexual Christians claim that they do not feel that the Holy Spirit is convicting their actions. I'm not telepathic so I do not know whether they feel convicted or not. However, I do know that we all deceive ourselves. People always say one thing but their hearts think another. My advice? Don't use the guiltless claim as your guide. Rather, pray about it. Remember, you don't have to answer to anyone else - you answer only to God. If you deceive yourself then only you will face the consequences. I won't have to face the consequences of your actions, your parents won't, your siblings won't, and no one on this board will either. By the way, guilt is not the only sign of conviction. Often, I find myself arguing a decision with God. But after I think about it, the only reason I argue is because I don't want to do what's placed in my heart. That's conviction and by arguing with God, I deceived myself. After all, why argue if I know that what I'm doing is right?

As an aside, if you really truly want to know the history, I recommend you to use a Bible encyclopedia to begin with. A professor teaching ancient history in a post-grad course is generally insufficient. That's why there are graduate and doctorate studies for nearly every topic.

People are too judging. We have to stop that, I talked to gay people about Jesus. and they have a constant need for love and affection. Even if they accept Christ they still have a need for affection, love and pleasure from a male figure. If a guy or gal is a christian and is gay it is because they lack a relationship with Christ. They keep seeking pleasure and are usually attracted to the things they wish they were or had. They are never satisfied with themselves and with their lives they are usually depressed and addicted to substances and sex. They have to be introduced to an intimacy with the Holy Spirit and Nurture it.
A christian cannot be gay, but as long as he tries to have a relationship with God and stop being gay God will help them and be patient with them. We have to understand a little about them and be patient with them, never criticizing but encouraging him to know God and be lead by his Spirit

iv been a Christian my hole life and i feel like the more iv been struggling with sexuality the more iv felt distant from god. im still a Christian and love god and i gess he loves me, but it feels like no matter how hard i try i cant beat back the feelings i have for people of the sames sex.

no matter how much sin you are in you can still be a Christian its about a relation ship with god. witch i still have.

HOW EVER i do feel like god wants me to change. and i will keep persevering!

No such thing as a Gay Christian....
there is no such thing as a sinless Christian so get of you high seat and think about how if feels to be trapped in a sin you've struggled with your hole life.
gay people can for sure be christian but it is a sin that they should be working on.

God is pretty clear that this lifestyle is a SIN in his eyes. And to me that's all that really matters what the big man in heaven commands I obey as I am merely his humble servant.

Homosexuality is indeed sinful.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (NIV).

Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." (NIV) [Addressed to men]

Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." (NIV)

Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." (NIV)

There is some debate over whether "Homosexuality" in the Bible is equivalent, in modern terms, to a "Homosexual prostitute" (see Romans 1:26-27 above). My answer to this is simple:

~Is there anywhere in the Bible that shows two godly (two saved, faithful towards God) men? Or does it, instead, condone the union between man and wife, show absolutely no indication of godly homosexuals, and condemn Homosexuality?

It's not as if homosexuality was mysteriously lacking in the Old Testament; those Leviticus commands were addressed to the nomadic tribe of Israel; some men whom were engaging in homosexual behavior.

Therefore, we can be certain that Homosexuality is a sin. Leviticus 20:13 specifically states that Homosexuality is a sin! It states that if a "man lies with a man" [homosexuality] as a "one lies with a woman" [heterosexual behavior], it is a sin grievous enough to merit death!

Lastly, ask yourselves, would God make Homosexuality? Is there any necessity for Homosexual behavior? Obviously Heterosexual behavior can create viable offspring, capable of choosing to accept or reject God, but engaging in homosexual behavior produces no such kin.

Looks like my post was removed but it bears repeating.

You're reelationship with GOD is the top priority.

For those that are living in a sinful lifestyle you need to get right with GOD and for those that hate you also need to get right with GOD.

Don't take my word for it read your bible and pray on it.

I think what a lot of people are fed up with is the whole militant gay agenda behind it and the force, bigotry, hatred, indoctrination, slander etc with what these supporters press forward trying to force their despicable and detestable (in God's eyes) lifestyle on every heterosexual out there. They are trying to destroy families and even small children in the public school system with this agenda that never stops, until they have totally taken over and pushed our freedom and laws out, that are meant to protect the individual, the family and ultimately the country from being self destroyed.
I am not talking about the individual gay person that is trying to find a way out of that lifestyle, but everybody who is supporting it (gay or not). They also ultimately have to answer to God for it.
They accuse especially Christians, but also anybody else that stands in their way, of the exact things that they themselves are doing and advocating against anyone that disagrees with them. They won't stop until they have all the laws that protect sacred marriage changed and every child indoctrinated from kindergarten on and silenced everybody that would hinder that or even stand up for their own children!
You can't even open your mouth anymore to say anything against this evil that is spreading, not even that God hates it and that He actually does want them to turn and find the truth, without someone jumping on top of you trying to silence your free speech with branding you of being judgmental and hateful - even among so called "Christians".
Well if anybody thinks that they can shake their fist in God's face and repeat that, go ahead. I doubt they will do that on judgment day!

So far for that.
I may point out that yes, as homosexuality is a sin, so is fornication and adultery and neither will inherit the kingdom of God and I think we had plenty of scriptures posted here that proof that point and back it up. The individual "Christian" that is struggling with that, like with any other sin, is in need of help, but they have to want it.
Like all sins, they open doors to demonic influence and yes, a demon can come into a child as early as in the mother's womb or even at conception, through sins of the parents/ancestors. That needs to be dealt with, if the person wants to be totally set free. It's not God who creates people as homosexuals, it is the influence of the evil spirits that do that and lie to the person about their identity, God only allows it until that hold is broken. He is not saying in vain that His people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge!
First step is always to repent the sin to get right with God, then renouncing it to remove the legal right of the enemy over you, that holds you captive to do his will ( 2 Timothy 2:25-26) and also torments you.
Then tell that spirit to go in Jesus name.
Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and He will give you the strength through God's grace to overcome these things in your mind and in your body. That is deliverance in a nutshell! There is much more to be said about it...

You may not agree with that, or never even heard this before but it is the biblical truth that unfortunately, most of the churches nowadays have not taught because many have become powerless and just preaching to embrace your weakness and live with it. They are preaching a worldly gospel, seeker friendly where there is no sin and God forbid, we cannot point any of that out to anyone, it might offend them.
Well build a bridge and get over it, repent and get right with God! Better get offended now and change, than going on like that and burn in hell at the end. There I said it - Hell! Yes it's the place God will throw people that don't abide by His word! There is no more begging or pleading afterward, you have the chance to get the knowledge NOW and change NOW! That's why I have to say what I am saying. If you don't like it, take that up with God, it's His idea!

God provides a way out for everybody that wants to, like he provides a way to salvation for all that accept it. Working out that salvation with fear and trembling is what we need to do, actively. That e.g. starts with renewing our mind, from the world to what God thinks about the issue (whatever it is)...
If we see ourselves opposing God in what we think or do, we are called to repent and then turn until we line up with God again. This is our duty.
Be not deceived, God is not mocked! He looks at the heart, you cannot fool Him.

And don't think I do not have any love for these people struggling or I am out to judge them. First of all I would not take my time to post this if I didn't care, second it's not me judging anybody, it's God's word by what they are judged, I am just pointing out God's word so they can be saved!

Truth relax your only 16 years old this is just a forums don't take it personally even if people disagree with you it's not your place to correct them just give your opinion and move on :)
I may only be 16 years old, but that doesn't mean I can't contribute in whichever way I see fitting, as long as I'm not breaking any forum rules.

I was merely giving him some information, so he knows that homosexuality isn't a genetic condition God cursed people with. I'm sorry if I offended him.

I agree with all of you. ive seen people ignore the feeling that they are doing wrong when taking part in this sin. However God said whether they are good or bad, keep the church together, do not exile any man. And by church He means the body. so we are to love one another of course. However as brothers and sisters in Christ we have a responsibility to eachother to warn one another of Sin. and no sin is greater than the next, however in todays society homosexuality is becoming more acceptable and thats fine, however we know the outcome of that. and there are ways to handle it and ways that are too extreme. You cannot force change or a decision, we are to plant the seed and God is to water it and bring it to life. He is the only one that has the power to change any person on earth. He is sovereign. and i think we should all spend time in prayer for those who are lost and have given into the flesh. Amen.

Being 16 speaks to a level of maturity your brain isn't fully developed yet that doesn't happen until your 25. As far as your post, it's not what you say it's how you say it. You're getting overly defensive assuming other people were saying something to you specifically in previous postings when they werent.

Pray on that and think on it.
