It depends on how well-written the post is. If a post is poorly-written I may ignore it even if it's short.

Ditto
Depends on the topic and the punctuation. I don't like to read run-on paragraphs, very small letters, very BIG letters, or very bright letters. If the topic is very interesting, I may read it even if it's too long.
Ditto again.

What's so weird is that, I'm willing to read a really long letter/e-mail that someone writes to me. But when it comes to a forum post, nope, not even.

Paragraphs over five sentences long lose me. Posts over six or seven paragraphs lose me.

A post that is just ONE chunk of text with no paragraphs yet 10,20 or more sentences, totally loses me.

Some people just copy and paste long chunks of text to wear you down so they don't have to actually put thought in and discuss a point. Once they wear you out by making you lose interest they can move on to a new victim.

If it's a topic I'm interested in, I will probably read the whole thing unless it's poorly written or obviously a cut/paste job.

No. Time is too precious to read everything someone writes on a forum. I do skim the larger ones though if they look somewhat important.

If the post has more words than I have IQ points, its getting skipped....and that's not saying much.

You guys have said it all.

-----------------------------------------

Theology is not what I'm here for.

It's like sharpening your weapons back at the barracks before you go out again, and I'm pretty much done with that, except for the occasional tune-up.

...

I'm mainly interested in other people and what they're going through, and I pretty much read everything except singles and teens ...and of course Bible discussion, where you can pretty much say if it's long, it's wrong (spirit).

At what point during a reeeeeally long post by someone on here do your eyes glaze over and you lose interest?
I read them if broken into manageable sentences. If not, being a brain injury patient with no short term memory & concentration probs, I'm afraid the old interest just disappears.

It's a shame as I know I'll have missed really interesting points.

Yeah, I can't see the point of theology if we're not trying to be in unity, like God wants.

Okay, doctrine can be a useful support for faith, but it's always going to be a place of contention, by definition. So we have to behave right to not deny the truth of it all, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Debates on doctrine are for some, not for all. And there's plenty of us who, looking to the scriptures alone, or scriptures alongside revelation, who like to look at a Bible discussion but if there's no human side, it's just sounding brass and cymbals.

I guess it just pays to know yourself.

- - -

There are four supports to faith. Scripture, doctrine, tradition and your personal experience...

Only two of these are pure never-changing truth if you know your God:

scripture and your personal relationship (this includes revelation).

Doctrine can be true or not true. And tradition... I would not give you 2 cents for.
