The Cape L’Agulhas lighthouse in South Africa is 33 feet high, 238 feet above sea level, and can be seen for over 50 miles. If the world were a globe, this light would fall 1,400 feet below an observer’s line of sight.

A lot of light houses indeed but it's the looking down at sea level to measure curvature that has me baffled.

There is a very logical reason these lighthouses can be seen from so far away and it is because the earth is flat.

Let's look at the other angle from the boat to light house if a person was on a boat 28 miles off shore on a flat earth a person should be able to see the whole base to the top of a 200 foot tall light house with no problem from 28 miles off shore.
ive been in a boat 10 miles off shore I couldn't see anything on the shore not even 1000 foot tall building.

The Statue of Liberty in New York stands 326 feet above sea level and on a clear day can be seen as far as 60 miles away. If the Earth were a globe, that would put Lady Liberty at an impossible 2,074 feet below the horizon.

That would be a good test have you got any photos from a boat 60 miles off shore or on shore,,
a picture of lady liberty from 60 miles away.

The flat earth does not make sense to me,but it appears that a round earth makes more sense than a flat one.

This is what the flat earth people say,

Although the sun is at all times above the earth's surface, it appears in the morning to ascend from the north-east to the noonday position, and thence to descend and disappear, or set, in the north-west.This phenomenon arises from the operation of a simple and everywhere visible law of perspective. A flock of birds, when passing over a flat or marshy country, always appears to descend is it recedes; and if the flock is extensive, the first bird appears lower or nearer to the horizon than the last, although they are at the same actual altitude above the earth immediately beneath them.

When a plane flies away from an observer, without increasing or decreasing its altitude, it appears to gradually approach the horizon. In a long row of lamps, the second, supposing the observer to stand at the beginning of the series, will appear lower than the first; the third lower than the second; and so on to the end of the row; the farthest away always appearing the lowest, although each one has the same altitude; and if such a straight line of lamps could be continued far enough, the lights would at length descend, apparently, to the horizon, or to a level with the eye of the observer. This explains how the sun descends into the horizon as it recedes.

They say this to support that the sun looks like it is ascending, and descending,on a flat earth, but if the sun is at all times above the earth's surface,it would have to travel to one end,and then travel back to the other end,so it would go east to west, and then back west to east, but nobody has ever seen it come from the other direction.

We only see the sun coming from the same direction everyday. We do not see it coming in one direction, and then the next day it comes in the other direction. It only comes from one direction,so the sun always goes from east to west, but they say it goes back and forth across the earth, but we never seen it come back the other way.

If the earth is flat and it always goes east to west, the only answer could be that the sun travels around the earth, but this would not make sense, for then the earth on top would all be darkness, while the earth is passing under it,which we know cannot be true, for anytime of the day, some places have light, and some places have darkness.

So whether it is always above the earth,or rotates around the earth,it does not pan out,for it cannot go back and forth over the surface of the earth, for we do not see it going in both directions, and it cannot rotate around the earth to always go east to west, for then it would be total darkness on the top, while it is passing underneath.

Also look at airline flights. If the earth is flat, then at the farthest point east of land mass,a plane could only go to the left to get to its destination, for if it went right it would never make its destination, but would go away from it,and the same if it is the farthest west,it could only go to the right to reach its destination.

Of course unless it is the twilight zone effect, where in the east they can go right, and when they get so far, boom, they are on the left side of the planet, and the same for the other side, but we know there is no such thing.

If there is any flights,I mean any flights,no matter the location, and it is a flat earth, then any direction to the left of the take off location, they could not go right, for they would never make their destination, and any direction to the right of the take off location, they could not go to the left, for they would never make their destination.

If it is to the left, they can only go to the left, and if it is to the right, they can only go to the right,to make their destination.

Now on a round earth it does not matter, because sometimes it is closer to the left, and sometimes it is closer to the right, and it would really not matter how far apart they are, even if they are two inches from each other, and if it is two inches to the left, they could go to the right, and still reach the destination, and the same for the other way.

But on a flat earth it could not be so.

So looking at their flat earth, has there been any flights whose destination has been to the left of the take off point, but they went right, and the same for the other way around, and if so,then the flat earth theory cannot be true.

When I was in the service,I left California,to go to Okinawa, and we took off,and went left, but according to their flat map,Okinawa is to the right, how did we make our destination,if the earth is flat, for we would of never made it to Okinawa, but we would of kept going away from it,but if the earth is round we can make it.

Also it shows the flight pattern as going to the left, and making its destination, the same with California to Australia,it shows the flight pattern as going to the left, but how did they make their destination, going to the left, when the destinations are to the right,if it is a flat earth.

They would of never made their destinations, for if a flat earth is true,if the destination is to the left, they can only go to the left,to reach their destination, for if they go to the right, they would go away from it,with no way to get to it,and the same the other way around.

So how do they explain the airline flights, that go in the opposite direction of the designation point,on a flat earth, for they would never make it,but only go away from it,but that would not be a problem with a round earth.

It's hard for me to believe in a flat earth, but that does not mean I go along with Nasa, because they with scientists that believe in evolution,do appear that they put out a lot of crap,oh we explored mars, and oh the earth is 3.5 billion years old, like how do you measure that, and 450 light years away, they think they discovered a world with 3 suns, which how do measure that. How can they actually see that far,and they put out things that are far fetched, for what purpose,to make mankind think they are something great for they have the ability to do,and understand these things, which I think a lot of it appears to be baloney.

So do flat earth people think the earth sits atop of something, for the Bible says that God hangs the earth upon nothing(Job 26:7).

This does not make sense to me,for we have time zones, which cannot be denied, and it is true, that some places are dark, where some places are light, which this map does that some dark, some light, but it covers too big of a space, for it shows the whole United States as light, which we know that at times,it is light on the east side, and dark on the west side, and the sun closest to the west side, when the sun passes by the United States, but shouldn't the sun be closest to the east side first.

This map covers too big of an area of light on the earth, which would not be true, and would be too big of an area, which we know would be dark at a certain time, and the whole United States is not light at one time,at certain times, and why would the sun be closest to the west side first, and not the east side.

Keep in mind that the image in your post is based on some artist's idea of "how they see it"; it is not necessarily entirely accurate. Nor does it need to be to illustrate the basic idea that it is trying to get across. Needless to say, however, "the more accurate the better"...

I made the first image below from the GIF image in post #812 to illustrate a moment when the USA was "part light and part dark" - based on the rendering of the artist who made that GIF.

I personally do not subscribe to the "oval" shaped light pattern of the sun. Unless God intentionally designed His "two great lights" ( Genesis 1:16 ) to give their light in a special pattern -- I am thinking that the light of the sun would be a "concentric equidistant simple-single-radius light edge" type of pattern - i.e. - like the one illustrated in the second image below ( which is not entirely accurate, either - the sunlight radius is greater than what reality mandates ).

Also, keep in mind that - in the flat earth model - the sun moves back-and-forth between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn - over the course of a year. Both of these illustrations have it fixed at [ a position close to ] the equator.

I hope these two images help...

I suppose that 'concentric' and 'single-radius' really do not belong in the same phrase; however, I included both to try to help illustrate my point more clearly...

Perhaps 'single-radius' would have been sufficient?

( Some days my vocabulary likes to play 'hide-and-seek'... )

gary, if you really had the "exceedingly great" knowledge and understanding of physics that you boast about, you would quickly realize that the sun shines on every (top-facing) part of a disc earth at the same time and there could be no such phenomena as "night"
i.e. contradicting obvious reality and contradicting the scripture.

doesn't it bother you that your association with this nonsense, which has been point-by-point thoroughly refuted countless times, calls into serious question your input on every other subject you speak about?

if you can't be faithful with small things - like the fact that there is day and night on the earth - how will anyone trust you about anything more serious than this?

why are an entirely different set of stars visible from the northern and southern hemisphere?
with 100% predictable overlap in a spherical earth, heliocentric model of the solar system?

why do all the stars in the southern hemisphere rotate around one point and all the stars in the northern hemisphere rotate around polaris?

why isn't "globular" the correct term for of, relating to or having to do with a globe" ?

The lighthouse at Port Said, Egypt, at an elevation of only 60 feet has been seen an astonishing 58 miles away, where, according to modern astronomy it should be 2,182 feet below the line of sight!

The Notre Dame Antwerp spire stands 403 feet high from the foot of the tower with Strasburg measuring 468 feet above sea level. With the aid of a telescope, ships can be distinguished on the horizon and captains declare they can see the cathedral spire from an amazing 150 miles away. If the Earth were a globe, however, at that distance the spire should be an entire mile, 5,280 feet below the horizon!
