1) Former Polish cosmonaut Miroslaw Hermaszewski stated the following at the end of an interview at a conference where he was the honored guest:
Interviewer: “You’ve been there! Is earth Really a sphere hanging in outer space?”
Hermaszewski: “Earth is flat … as some expect … I didn’t expect this question … I assure you: It’s flat.”
2) Buzz Aldrin was interviewed at the National Book Festival in Washington, DC, on September 5, 2015, by an 8-year old girl named Zoey. In response to a question from Zoey, Aldrin admitted that the reason nobody has returned to the moon since the Apollo missions is that NASA did not go there in the first place. Aldrin, who has a history of alcohol abuse, sounded intoxicated during the interview. In that state of inebriation, Aldrin inadvertently let the cat out of the bag.
Zoey: “Why has nobody been to the moon in such a long time?”
Buzz Aldrin: “That’s not an 8-year old’s question. That’s my question. I want to know. But I think I know. Because we didn’t go there. And that’s the way it happened. And if it didn’t happen, it’s nice to know why it didn’t happen. So in the future, if we want to keep doing something, we need to know why something stopped in the past that we wanted to keep it going.”
