Why did Jesus want His disciples to stay AWAKE with Him in the garden ?

Matthew 26
[SUP]40 [/SUP]And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

[SUP]41[/SUP]Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

i'm usually trying to get away from something thats chasing me, usually some kind of animal or beast. sometimes i'll kinda make my way to a high point, i.e. tree or roof top but sometimes i'll actualy take flight but it seems the higher i try to go, i'm impeded by a grid of electrical wiring like power lines but they're like criss crossed and the higher i go, the closer they get together and i'm afraid to go any higher. This type of dream shows that you are being pursued by evil spirits, but you know to look up and aim for a higher spiritual realm in which to seek refuge, where there is Great Power. This dream is given so that you can know to ASK GOD for His Higher Power with which to not only fight, but to have a more heavenly perspective so that you can fulfill the destiny that God has created you for. (Also ask Him "Why?" these things have a right to pursue you so that you can remedy that part of your spiritual life.)
another i have is about seeing tornado's. now, i've never been in one or even seen one in person, but i'll have a dream where a tornado, or sometimes several tornado's come extremely close to me. i never get caught up in one but like i said, they'll get uncomfortably close. i'll usually be hiding behind a wall or in a building and i will watch them pass but never get injured or whatever by them....i know this topic isn't a "bible study" topic but this is usually where i post....In dreams, the coloring of a tornado has relevance; dark tornados are metaphors for stormy/turbulent situations headed your way; Whitish colored tornados are metaphors for powerful moves of God, and although participation might be uncomfortable for a time, it is an awesome thing to be a part of. SO...if your tornados are dark, then God is showing you that there are troubled times ahead so that you can pray accordingly, asking for strategy as to how to 'weather the storm'. If they are of the whitish nature, then He is showing that He is about to do something BIG and Powerful and it is an invitation to get involved.
Hope this helps!

I don't know I use those type of dreams all the time. (But of course it had nothing to do with the fact that I just happened to have been watching those old B movies with Godzilla, giant spiders, scorpions, and dinosaurs or disaster movies during the day) Could it be a cause and effect type of thing? One needs to be careful of the source of the dream because many can from our own selves and are not from God.

Hey, your the one who likes to open the can of worms as I recall. Frankly put, I think if we worry about dreams and their meanings it's stems from a lack of faith. If God wanted to tell you something, don't you think it would be a clear and precise method?
That's the problem with most people who come in here and downplay the work of the church and the gifts of the Spirit. Some of their major philosophies are "it doesn't make sense", or "think about it", or "you're not thinking things through". The real problem is "stinkin' thinkin'", trying to "figure it out". In the end, they bring God down to their level and jam Him in a box.

Isaiah 55:8-9 [SUP]8 [/SUP]For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. [SUP]9 [/SUP]For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

God's works do not make common sense. Maybe because they're not common. When God does things for His own pleasure, it's on His level, not ours.

ASk God, my friend! I´ve seen my dreams became true, and I don´t care if these are biblical or not. Sometimes dreams comes and happen and, it fact, I´m asking God to update the Bible, since my todays being is private, unique, as any individual, and I seek and need answers the Bible is not telling me: "Do this Antonio, and deal with that thing". Ask God! fast and pray, and you´ll find the answer.

In Matt I´ve Joseph, the carpenter, and the maggi WERE WARNED to do something and to avoid something. Biblical or not, as you said, there´s a reason. Find it out!

Logos, Reason and Order - God saying, come let us reason together = stinkin' thinkin'?

stephen really....God in a box?

we're not supposed to "figure it out"?

be careful with that stuff - it's like Halcion: a super-hypnotic < removed from the market.

that's the one people when under it, get out of bed and drive their cars 50 miles and return to bed and never know they did it.
i wouldn't use that stuff if you can avoid it, dear.

our lone nut shooter (patises) are nearly all known to be on these hypnotics (and other psychotropics)

Reading through this thread has been kind of entertaining. Now it's not that I think all dream interpreting is bogus or anything... but lot's of this stuff makes me think of horoscope or even fortune cookie-type analogies. Surely some of you supposed interpreters can't be taking yourself seriously? Are we searching so hard for magical manifestations that we're actually creating them for ourselves? Yes? Now again, God obviously speaks to us, regularly, for that matter, through... hey! Scriptures! They're pretty cool in themselves, aren't they? I know that each time I read them anew, I seem to see something entirely different I didn't notice before, some new point made or even revelation given appropriate to the moment?

The Lord speaks to us in dreams, warns us ect. it is biblical. If it is from the Lord it is very ,very detailed.
If its all confusing and such it is not from the Lord. Before the Lord drew me I had a reacurring dream every
so many years about a house that had pillars and marble floors ect, but i wanted to buy it or live there, but
it needed work, had so much potential to be beautiful, then after i was born again i had the same dream
and the house was beautiful. In other words from reading the word the house is our body and the lord could not
live there until repentance came.

Several years ago, I had a dream about the church. I was driving down the road, and as I looked up to my right I saw a beautiful 4 pillared church with a full steeple standing proudly on top of a hill. I turned up the winding drive going up to it. When I got to the building, I noticed something was wrong. Something didn't look right. The drive went around the left side of the building. As I drove around the front of the building, I noticed it wasn't a building at all. It was a huge billboard. Behind it was a rickety old shack, something like the original cabin the Beverly hillbillies lived in. At the shock of my discovery, I immediately woke up.

Many today believe the church is in great shape. At that time, so did I. God showed me that the modern-day church spends most of it's time looking good, putting on a good face, so that no one could see what's behind it. This is why it's so hard to get Christians to believe that church as a whole is sliding toward apostasy. People today are more about keeping up appearances than they are keeping spiritual purity their priority.

what's your problem stephen?

you use The Oxford Group's (the Pentecostal Homeboys Crib) AA 'stinkin' thinkin' relating it to non-penetecostals' inability to Know the One True God through His revealed Spirit-breathed testimony of Himself, because that's got something to do jamming GOD into a BOX?

these stupid pressure tactics and mantras might work on your people to keep them from thinking critically.
personally i think it's disgraceful.

maybe Bill O would agree - i have no idea....i don't watch the nut.

.....

The Alcoholics Anonymous Cult - do not ever think for yourself:

Stinkin’ Thinkin’

A recovering alcoholic in AA has to be vigilant or risk relapse (That makes me wonder why they use the term “recovering” at all, as “recovery” is the logical conclusion of the process, but, in AA, the word has no logical conclusion; perhaps “remission” might be more honest?), and the first sign that one is headed “out” is Stinkin’ Thinkin’ or Stinkin’ Drinkin’ Thinkin’. Nip that in the bud.

In 1985, Gayle Rosellini published a 24-page tract through Hazelden called Stinking Thinking, in which she says, “Attitudes are either a path to healthy and happy recovery or the road to relapse. It’s that simple.” And she goes on to say,

Unfortunately, those of us who are recovering from chemical dependency too often suffer from what A.A. members call stinking thinking. Stinking thinking is a bad attitude. It’s being negative, blaming, and chronically dissatisfied. And it’s sneaky. […] Stinking thinking is a major symptom of chemical dependency. We all suffer from it at one time or another and it doesn’t go away with thirty days of treatment. It can dog our heels even when we’re sober – wrecking our recovery.

Since Rosellini published her tract, the telltale signs of Stinking Thinking have evolved beyond the four types she proposed, and the definition has become both more broad and more specific and detailed. Broadly, stinking thinking is explained well in this 12-Step Workshop handout:

Without the meetings and the fellowship, I’ll begin to think that the problem is anything other than Powerless. And, I’ll forget what the solution is… the 12 Steps… and come up with all sorts of solutions of my own. In A.A., we call that “stinking thinking” and as alcoholics, we cannot afford the luxury of “stinking thinking” because stinking thinking produces “stinking results.”

This highlights the kernel of stinking thinking, which is, essentially, any deviation from the program – and, while deviation might be the result of one’s own dumdum justifications for going back to drinking, it could also generate from one’s utter dissatisfaction with the program for any number of logical and sound reasons.

....

if there was something spiritual you intended to impart - why don't you tell me what it was?

oh wow man...like you had a dream?

Many today believe the church is in great shape. At that time, so did I. so your dream has the authority of God behind it because you say so.
that makes you infallible, doesn't it? at least as authoritative as the Apostles who got direct revelation!

i mean...who should have any stinkin thinkin about your dream? - you said GOD showed you, right?

you're on par with Scripture!

maybe God was showing you your own church (?) - nah.....just the modern church (that would be other people....you know, the God-in-a-Box kind).

s'cuse me.....stinkin thinkin's gettin in the way of seeing your spiritual purity Pastor.
maybe when i submit to the empty my brains at the door and just Let Go and Let God (another Oxford mantra) i'll get it.

maybe you should consider some things that are posted and maybe you should stay awake at night.
do some soul searching.

babbling incoherently isn't the languages of Pentecost, and there's no private 'angelic' burbling either.
and direct revelations and prophecies are fake.

over.
