In Hebrew sabbath means to rest. God has made us a promise of rest but it is up to us to claim it. The sabbath is not a certain day of the week because Jesus Christ has become our sabbath. We can have the true sabbath that God promised us everyday if we like or we can set aside a certain day. God tells us there are certain things we must do before we can enter His rest. So lets go to His word and read how we can get true rest for our souls.

Hebrews 4:1-13

1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into His rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

God gave us a promise of rest, it is up to us to claim it.

2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

The gospel or good news is preached to believers and unbelievers alike. It does not do the unbelievers any good because they don't have faith. If we want to enter His rest, we need to have faith.

3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as He said, As I have sworn in My wrath, if they shall enter into My rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

The believers are able to enter into His rest if we claim the promise that was made. The works of that rest, salvation in Jesus Christ, were finished from the creation of the earth.

4 For He spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all His works.

We count our days different than God does so this is not talking about one of our days of the week. A day with God is a thousand years.

2 Peter 3:
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into My rest.

God wants us to enter in to His rest but we must claim the promise to do so. We can do that by having faith and reading His word.

6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

Some people must enter the rest that God offers, they don't have a choice. The people that must enter in are chosen by God. They are God's elect. Everyone else has a choice to enter the rest but many don't because they don't have faith. Another word that can be used for unbelief is disobedience. If we are not following the word of God, we are being disobedient and will not enter into His rest.

7 Again, He limiteth a certain day, saying in David, Today, after so long a time; as it is said, Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts.

This is quoting form Psalms 95:7-8 It goes on to say how Israel tempted God in the wilderness. God was grieved with that generation because of their disobedience. That generation did not enter into God's rest, they died in the wilderness. The point is to open up our hearts to God and His word and do not be disobedient.

8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would He not afterward have spoken of another day.

Jesus in this verse properly transliterated is Joshua. Joshua was the one that brought the children of Israel into the promised land. Joshua was a type of our true rest, Jesus Christ.

9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

The word rest , in this verse is from the Greek word sabbaton which means sabbath. This is the only time it is used in the chapter. Our true sabbath is Jesus Christ. Only Christ is able to save our soul and give us true rest. We can have that rest today if we have faith, read His word and are not disobedient to the Lord. We learn that Christ is also our passover in I Corinthians 5:7

I Corinthians 5:7
V7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:/color]

10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

How do we enter His rest? Labour. The word labour in Greek is spoudazo (spoo-dad'-zo) and means to use speed, i.e. to make effort, be prompt or earnest. We need to make an effort to increase our faith in Jesus Christ. We can do that by studying the word of God. We must also make an effort to obey God and not be disobedient. If we want true rest, this is the way to get it.

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The word quick is zao (dzah'-o) and means to live. The word of God is alive and will help us to divide our flesh thoughts from our spiritual thoughts. It will teach us how to live and act as God would want us to. The word discerner is kritikos (krit-ee-kos') and means decisive ("critical"), i.e. discriminative. God's word is to be our judge, we are not to judge God's word. God's word will judge our intermost thoughts and intents.

13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.

God sees and knows everything we do. Their is nothing that anyone can do that is hidden from our Father.

Lets read what Jesus Christ has to say about the sabbath and rest.

Mark 2:
27 And He said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Jesus Christ tells us that He is Lord of the sabbath. He is the possessor of it and has control over it. Christ has become our sabbath. He is the promise of rest that God has made to us. We can only get true rest for our body and soul from Jesus Christ. We can work at getting this rest today by having faith and reading the word of God.

Matthew 11:
28 Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

Christ tells us to go to Him for our rest. The word yoke is zugos (dzoo-gos') and means (to join, especially by a "yoke"); a coupling. We are to join together with Christ and learn from Him. That is done by having faith and reading God's word. We do these things along with being obedient, we will get our rest. You can count on it, it is a promise from God.

A few more things I'd like to cover.

Colossians 2:

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Don't just believe what people tell you about God's word, always go to God's word and let that be the judge. Don't fall for the latest new religion that somebody comes up with. Christianity is not a religion but a reality. Jesus Christ was real and to be a Christian we need to follow Him and not the traditions of men. As we get closer to the return of Jesus Christ, more people are going to be claiming to have the latest new 'thing' about God's word. Don't believe them and always check out what they say in God's word for yourself. This goes for my studies as well as anything else somebody might tell you about the word of God. It's your eternal life that's on the line and you owe it to yourself to make sure what people tell you lines up with what God said.

9 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in Him, Which is the head of all principality and power:

We are complete in Christ Who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Our Father is in control of all things.

11 In Whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

This is talking about a circumcision of our mind. We need to change the way we think and act in the flesh. We need to act more like God would want us to and we do that by following the example of Jesus Christ. We should not harden our hearts to Christ and His teachings. We need to open our hearts to Christ and make a effort to follow Him.

12 Buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God, Who hath raised Him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

We are spiritually made alive with our faith that God raised Christ from the dead.

14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross;

All the blood ordinances and sacrifices were done away with when Christ was nailed to the cross.

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Jesus Christ triumphed over Satan in His daily life and in being raised from the dead. He defeated death which is Satan.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

The sabbath days were just a shadow of our true rest, Jesus Christ. Only Christ can save our soul and give us rest.

Jesus Christ has become our sabbath and we can have that rest everyday of the week if we want, it's up to us. We need to have faith, an open our mind and work to get His rest. Read God's word and claim the promise of rest that He made to us. If you would like to set aside a day of the week to do this, there is nothing wrong with that. But remember that mankind gave the days of the week names, not God.

Also, with God a day is a thousand years so saying a certain day is the sabbath just don't work. Our sabbath is Jesus Christ. We should enter our sabbath everyday.[/size]

I didn't read all the rest because I got to "Jesus Christ has become our Sabbath". That is not scriptural. The Sabbath as God gave us is symbolic of our eternal rest. We could not have that rest without what Christ did for us on the cross and that work was ordained at the creation of our world. But to say He IS our Sabbath is to add to scripture, and we are not allowed to do that. We are not even to use our logic on scripture, so we are not to say if scripture says this, and it also says that, logical conclusions can be made. Scripture is exact and it is truth.

We are given the gospel, told exactly what God's covenant with us is through Christ. It is through salvation we have eternal life, and it is through the grace of God who gave us His Son that we have forgiveness that leads to eternal rest. Our part in the covenant is repentance.

If we have Christ within us, if we follow Him, we use one day a week for rest and praise, a day that God gave us with blessing that day.

That is what scripture says. We are not to add or subtract from that.

Faith properly placed in the work of the cross is rest. Show me from scripture where God actually rested. Jesus said that the sabbath was created for men and not men for the Sabbath. God is still working today and everyday.

Well: I really wish people would take the time to read the full post. There is scripture presented there for a reason. It is written.

These are Christ words Himself :
Mark.2

[28] Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Matt.12

[8] For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Nothing said in this post is not stated without the scripture being resented . Please read the full post if you feel like doing that. Don't let God's words be offending to you. And let the traditions of men fade away.

Matthew 11:

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

The son of man is Lord of the Sabbath, He is one with the Father, He is not THE Sabbath. Yes, it is through Christ that we receive rest, we are to come until Him. We find rest for our souls, even, through knowing Christ. You can even say that Christ, as Lord of the Sabbath, leads us to the Sabbath.

The Sabbath can be defined as a day symbolic of eternal rest. We are to observe it.

You misunderstood those scriptures and you did not completely research your idea. You did not understand "the Lord OF" bit because "of" does not mean "has become". Y'shua is rest and the Sabbath is the day OF rest; a day for rest. It is a day of the week that has been set apart so that we may find our rest from the world. It is a day for GOD. Sabbath also means to cease; to end, hence the reason why it is on the last day of the week. We work, focus on what we do in our daily lives, and do projects that the LORD has called us to do all the other 6 days of the week and GOD commanded us to use only the 7th day (Only one day!) to focus completely on HIM and HIS rest.

Exodus 20:8-11 ESV
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female serva
nt, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy."
(This scripture does not appear to give any indication that the Sabbath is a prophecy of the coming Messiah like all of the other scriptures that are meant to do that do in the OT. It is written more like a law that is unchangeable because the LORD has ordained it.)

Acts 17:2
Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for
three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures. (There is only one Y'shua and if He is now the Sabbath then why is Paul, of all people, still keeping that day as holy? The NT has not changed since then. The Sabbath was also used to keep track of time.)

Luke 4:16 (NKJV)
So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath
day, and stood up to read.
(Even Paul refers to it as a day, not an any time, any where, any day rest period!)

Acts 13:44
On the
next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of Yahweh.
(How can you have a next Sabbath if Y'shua is the Sabbath and there is only one of Him. If He is the Word then, if He is also the Sabbath, why would you wait to hear about Him on Him....? It's very confusing isn't it? GOD is not the Author of confusion so why is your theory so confusing? Because it does not aline with the Word of GOD. This is not just any tradition, this is one of GOD's laws.)

The weekly sabbath was a shadow; Christ is the light that casts the shadow.

Which do you prefer? To walk in the light, or to walk in shadows?

Both.... Anything of Y'shua's is what I want. Even His shadow. I honestly did not understand this post.

Well in order to follow the shadow you have to turn your back on the light...

btw, my original comment wasn't directed at you specifically; it was directed at everyone.

The only place a lost or found soul can have rest is in the awesome work of the cross of christ. When does a slave have rest. Were we not slaves to sin. But, we found rest in Christ and the only place we can find rest. For instance, did you know that the Pharisee's had a law that you could not comb your hair on the Sabbath. Because, you might comb out a grain of dirt and that would be considered work. That's how far keeping law can go. I rest in Christ.

It's very confusing isn't it? GOD is not the Author of confusion so why is your theory so confusing? Because it does not aline with the Word of GOD. This is not just any tradition, this is one of GOD's laws.)
Its only confusing to legalists and judaizers.

The Lord Jesus gives us Rest. We rest in Him. He is our rest. He has done all the work.

The Lord Jesus is our Sabbath. Our rest from works. Our ceasing of our works.

There remaineth therefore a rest unto the people of God.

IF you are still working at the law you aren't resting. You are more interested in your own work than the Lords.

This is what Ive been trying to tell sabbath keepers... the old testament is a shadow of good things to come. God blessed Israel to rest from their 400 years of hard labor and God blessed gentiles to rest from our labors of self righteousness and to inherit the righteousness of Jesus Christ and rest in his finish work which provides an eternal rest that is much better than one day of rest.

In the few months I've been on the site, I've seen more threads addressing the sabbath issue than I can count. They always follow the same pattern. Exactly. No matter what is presented on both sides of this argument, no one changes their opinion and eventually another thread starts. I'm convinced most people do exactly what they want to do no matter what's shown them. So it's almost entirely pointless to entertain these threads.

People that want the truth about what God wants from us concerning keeping the sabbath actually research this issue in depth, and I'm talking DEPTH. I've found that the one's that don't want to believe the sabbath law is as important as any other commandment will either create or follow any reasoning anyone comes up with to justify breaking this commandment.

The "Jesus is now our rest so keeping a 7th day sabbath is no longer important" is a man-made concept nowhere to be found in scriptures.

But again, for those who seek? It's those who will find. Those that don't wish to find anything that asks anything of them? They will find nothing.

To worry or fear about ANYTHING! shows ones doubt in GOD.

Why wouldn't one desire this rest EVERYDAY?

Christianity is a Reality; an Art to be practised daily by each and every individual, after all, is it really that hard to love one another? or does one think its ok to love them on certain days only?

And by the way, NO, its not that easy to love one another; at least not in this flesh realm ;) unless its pretentious love, that's real easy, and available everywhere.

With the only ordinance of the law of that was not nailed to the cross, the daily sinners prayer as taught by The Christ/Messiah.

Laws of Statutes: Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter to the ignorant:

Conception, Thanksgiving and the Passing-Over and Resserection of A Saviour for one and ALL, to the informed.

Laws of Commandments = Eternal, and not even needed when things are returned to their MoreNatural Order.

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. (Psa 37:7)

If we don't find our rest IN HIM, then where?

Morning Shiloah!!!!

They are having the same argument in Sudan. I would imagine it's going on everywhere on the planet. The world is becoming enlightened with Gods Sabbath message! So,, don't be depressed... This message will rise to a loud cry! And soon,, the latter rain will be poured out...

This latter rain will strengthen Gods people for the tests that are to come. Just as Jesus was strengthened at the Transfiguration to go thru His crucifixtion.
