Look, I believe in Jesus. He saved me. But, then I found out that I could receive the Holy Spirit. I sought Him and the next thing I knew I was speaking in tongues. Afterward the scripture opened up to me as never before. I fell in love with the word. I began to read it as if it was the best novel ever written. Jesus became more real to me than ever before. When I lay hands on people and begin to pray, tongues come automatically. I wonder if in your church if you practice the laying on of hands. It is biblical. Yet, you don't do it. Tongues are a gift. If you are against tongues, then you must analyse your ground. Satan has always tried to stop tongues and many churches are helping him. You cannot deny that it is biblical.
which languages do you speak?

IDK, If I knew, it couldn't be tongues. I begin to pray, most don't except over their food.As I pray for y family and friends, then the Holy Spirit takes over and to be honest, I don't know what I am praying. That is a good thing, Paul said we do not pray as we ought. The spirit prays through us. So thank God that He has people that pray His will and not their own. Zone you can have too. If you ask for it. God is not a microwave. He said seek and knock.

oh.....wow.
Kerry.....i thought you just said the bible opened up to you like MEGA?

Romans 8:26
25But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. 26In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God

this is nothing to do with tongues.
it's saying when we are in distress or persecuted or confused or tired - and WE DON'T KNOW WHAT OUR NEEDS ARE, HOW TO PRAY AS WE SHOULD - The Holy Spirit intercedes FOR US to GOD......:

with groanings too deep for words

no words.
silent.
The Spirit is silently interceding TO GOD for the believer who CAN'T PRAY.

got anything else?

since when is it ever a good thing to make a bunch of noise you think is prayer and not have a clue what you are saying?
how do you know you're not cursing God?

To me it's sort of telling, That someone would say that prophets can make "error messages".. when that was the one way that God said we could tell false prophets from true prophets..:O

I'm happy where I am at. Why do you refute the Holy Spirit, Scared, Taught that its evil, Or against your flesh. Please give strong reasoning why it is not accepted by your church. Tongue talkers are the most holiest of people that I have ever met. Not all but most. Shouldn't we be cutting chickens or something if we were evil. No, we believe in the gifts of The Holy Spirit as you do not.

That's the irony here. The Bible teaches that these manifestations of the Spirit are given to members of the body of Christ. The Bible says 'these signs shall follow them that believe.' Lazy is believing that the use of the aorist translated as 'them that believe' means it refers only to those who had already believed then, without doing some research on the aorist to see if that's feasible.

The sad part is when they say that it's OK with God to do so and it's that it's still suppose to be from God,they make God out to be a liar, because their saying didn't really mean what He so plainly said.

You forget Jesus said unless your righteousness EXCEEDS that of the Pharisees you can NOT enter into the kingdom of heaven.Remember they knew the law inside, outside, upside down and backwards. For the most they would have appeared to obeyed the letter of the law to a degree we CAN'T even begin to imagine. When Jesus made that statement the disciples were so shocked they wondered if that were so WHO COULD be saved. From outward appearances they were holy, righteous people by human standards. But remember what Jesus told them that they were WHITE WASHED TOMBS full of dead men's bones, brood of vipers, sons of the devil etc etc. So was Jesus speaking of matter of the heart? How did Jesus define who were His? How John define who belong to the Lord and know the Father? And if what Jesus,John and Paul said needs to be there is NOT there are they His?

UMM But shouldn't the real question be how is what you are doing DIFFERENT then what some Hindus,Mormons,or others do?

Can you explain how one knows the difference between the two?

This is what the Mormons believe about speaking in other languages

LDS Church History

Speaking in Tongues

Speaking in tongues was an important aspect of Latter-day Saint spirituality. Heber C. Kimball remembered he and Brigham Young visiting a group Mormons who spoke in tongues. Brigham and Heber were baptized shortly thereafter, and it was Brigham Young who introduced Joseph Smith to speaking in tongues. With the prophet's endorsement (including his singing in tongues), the practice spread.

It is important to recognize the connection between Joseph Smith's view of ancient languages and his views about the gift of tongues. Joseph Smith saw the "pure" language as being corrupted at the time of the Tower of Babel. A restoration of aspects of this Pure or "Adamic" language was a part of what he envisioned as part of the restoration. Certain words such as the name of God, keywords mentioned in the facsimiles of the Book of Abraham and aspects of the temple endowment ritual were tied to the Adamic tongue. Often, when one spoke in tongues, fellow Mormons thought they were speaking in the Pure or Adamic language.

Few in here would say that the Mormons believe in the same Jesus, yet some are able to do the same thing,so how do you know the difference between the two? How do you know when you are praying that you are praising God and not cursing Jesus?

Think about this a moment,if Jesus tells us that there would be deception that would be so strong that if it were possible to deceive EVEN THE ELECT,Paul talks about being wary of false prophets,John tells us MANY false prophets have gone out into the world are they telling us to be very careful and to examine these things to determine if they are from God or not? Or are they telling us to take it at face value when someone says they can do these things, and often it appears on the surface that a lot of looks a lot like what we know to be false can do? Can you please explain how what you are doing is DIFFERENT?

Kerry,

Perhaps maybe someone can finally please explain this. I don't think anyone disagrees that at some point the gifts will cease. The disagreement of course is in the timing. I think most can agree Paul does say the gifts will cease, but here's the thing if the gifts continued on why does James, who I think we can agree was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write this

James 5

13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.14Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

So the question is if the gifts continued why does James tell us to go before the elders,be anointed with oil and pray the prayer of faith? If the gifts continued why doesn't he say go to someone who has the gift of healing? Why does James state something that appears to be in contradiction to the gifts continuing? Why would James write this under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit pointing to a change,if there was no change?

But on the other hand isn't this in agreement with Paul when Paul says the gifts would cease and James is laying down part of the framework for that?

Kerry, the issue should come down to one thing who or what is the source of these signs these days? Jesus,John,Peter and Paul all warned us about false prophets who would come in the name of the Lord. Jesus even warns about those who CAN DO miracles, cast out demons and prophecy in His name. John tells us under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to TEST the spirits because not all of them are from the Lord. (Which is odd that the Holy Spirit is the one telling us to test these things and some will say these things won't be done to be tested when it's the Holy Spirit that tells us to test the spirits,is the Holy Spirit lying when He tells us to test the spirits and then turns around and won't allow it to be tested?)

So the real question again boils down to the question that needs to be answered, who is the source of the signs and wonders stuff that we are now? You have Hindus, those involved in Voodoo, and the occult who can also speak in tongues,we know that is false. If they can do it and we know that it is false, then by this and the Word we know the false exists. The plumb line in all of this is what is being seen as the signs and wonders these days is it true or false? That is the heart of the matter.

personally you have tied together James and Paul and split hairs here Sister in my opinion from what I hear.
The Elders have the gifts and are anointed. And the person will come to see what God has done for them and be healed by knowing God has forgiven them and thus will not hold grudges either to anyone else, being forgiven and believing this about God.

The part that will cease in the gifts are they are not as important as LOVE of God. Love of God is the fulfillment and is clear we are not to forbid others from speaking in tongues.
Does God love all or just a few? Does God love you whether you believe or do not believe?
1 Corinthians 14:39 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues

What part of scripture here is not clear? You do not believe in the Speaking of tongues, okay, no problem cool.
So are you forbidding others to?
And all of you that do speak in tongues do you require this as evidence of being born Again, as many do, and this only segregates you, causes divisions. What did Paul say
1 Corinthians 12:30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
Is not the body itself made up of many parts, and to be one body does it not need all the parts to do their function?
And if one part does not do their function what happens?

Say you can't go to the bathroom, what happens? Get it we need all the parts of the body to be one body. Discernment is needed to know truth and when it is being faked and when it is not and being a believer in God, I am sure God will show us the difference.
So it boils to down to trust God in all things and you will know the truth, the truth that sets you free.
If you are free in God, which by belief in God one is free and there are no schisms in his Body what so ever or yours since you believe.
Love to all

Colossians 1:22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation

The question is not whether tongues are biblical but whether the tongues in the charismatic movement or Pentecostal church are biblical. Paul said that tongues would cease. People were being healed before Pentacost. God heals both the righteous and the unrighteous. Believers are filled with the Holy Spirit but many never speak in what is commonly referred to as tongues. I'm all for holy living if it is an outworking of the presence of God's Spirit in the heart. the beef is that while both parties use the same terms each defines them in the context of their own doctrines which causes them to be at odds with the bible.

For the cause of Christ
Roger
Yep and we are to discuss to discern but not into divisions and fight and argue. For if we do are we not still carnal, and if carnal still are we born again?
1 Corinthians 1:10 [ A Church Divided Over Leaders ] I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

But flesh can't do this can it?
1 Corinthians 12:25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.

But it does in the Spirit of God does it not?

Sorry you're missing the bigger issue and that is are the "tongues" that are being witnessed from God or NOT.

Can you show the real? Can you show us the difference between that which is of God and that which is not in these?

And again James points to things changing. Which is in agreement with Paul when Paul said the spiritual gifts would end.

How hard is that to understand?

alright. we'll prove all things - from Scripture.

then you'll need to explain why you deny what The Bible says.

why doesn't it surprise me you do not know where this 'statement' comes from?

~

PART I

The Church, if you did not know, is compared to a building, a temple, a household.
Apostles and prophets were foundational - WITH Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 2:19-22
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

how many foundations were poured when your church was built?
are you guys pouring new concrete every Sunday? if so, again i would suggest you leave the building immediately, because it's going to come down on your heads.

a PERMANENT building has ONE (1) foundation.
laying another foundation means the builders are utterly ill-equipped and their house will fall.

maybe you didn't know the saints are compared to living stones (material used to ADD TO the house AFTER the Cornerstone is first laid, and the foundation is set).

the wise builder then proceeds to set STONES UPON, ON TOP of the foundation.

how many foundations are in your home today Stephen? this is not a rhetorical question - please answer it.

........

If you're a dedicated handyman and enjoy doing projects around your home, it's very likely that you've considered building your own house. One of the absolutely pivotal parts of that process, however, is the foundation. Use your knowledge of do-it-yourself projects in conjunction with this article to successfully learn how to pour a concrete foundation for your home or any number of structures on your property.

How to Pour a Concrete Foundation: 13 Steps - wikiHow < click for 13 east steps on HOW TO BUILD A HOUSE

cont
Sister God does live in buildings? And Church is a mistranslation from Ecclesia. Church means building and Stephan was stoned to death for saying God does not live in buildings as Saul at that time watched it happen.
Sister we the believers are the Ecclesia of Christ, the called out ones that speak the mysteries of God in Christ from heaven where Christ is seated justified in Spirit of God, and we are to receive that same Spirit if we believe and be set free in God through what Christ has done for us at the cross
[h=3]Acts 2:17[/h]New International Version (NIV)

[SUP]17 [/SUP]“‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.

Have you not received the Spirit of God yet and been given your gift to edify the Ecclesia in Christ?
You are stating that the reception of the Holy Ghost is over. And if this is so then you are not born again are you?
My greatest gift from God through the Holy Ghost for me is life forever in him. How about you?

how is it anyone can be united in mind and thought with someone who is "saying" something NO ONE can agree with, because NO ONE can understand it (today's "tongues")?

home - do you attend charismatic churches where peeping and gurgling noises are made (which you don't understand and neither do they), and then say AMEN (you agree)?

Notice it says ARE BUILT.

Not were built.

I've seen churches who don't understand the apostle nor the prophets role. They live from a humanistic interpretation of Scripture. The fruits of the Spirit are performance goals instead of simply fruits.

This is why Paul said to desire all spiritual gifts, especially prophesy.

When are you going to listen to Scripture? Desire all spiritual gifts. Especially prophesy. And yes you can test for YOURSELF... but that doesn't mean you judge servants of God. It is written, we shall be judged by no one.

We are lead by the Spirit. But many think they are supposed to be lead by reading Scripture and listening to a pastor.

Will the Spirit use these? Yes. But, the church is supposed to be ruled from the heaven down, not from the Earth up. God desires relationship, never-ending 24/7 fellowship and communion. Jesus didn't die so we could merely get to heaven, but so that heaven could come into us.

The veil was torn so we could be with God and in His presence. Hence, don't forbid tongues nor prophesy. They make no sense to your natural mind, because your natural mind is enmity with God.

Saturday, I listened to the Holy Spirit as He gave me words of knowledge about people out and about my day, one person had a back back, another a bad knee, He healed both of them after praying like He commanded me to do.

I don't say this to puff myself up, but that you might consider that the Holy Spirit wants to bless people through you, talk to people through you, work miracles through you, that the world would know He is God and that you would understand in a new way of what it means to be led by the Spirit.

As far as gifts no longer being needed because "we've got it all figured out now" that's what the Pharisees thought.

They thought they had it all figured out. They would follow the Word instead of letting it transform them. They would DO everything it said, but they missed Jesus completely.

Because they were white-washed tombs with hard hearts that wouldn't listen to God speak to them. Jesus told us good trees can't bear bad fruit, but neither can bad trees bear good fruit. Thus by the fruit we shall recognize them.

To some this is a problem, a big one. To others this is a promise, a big one.

C.
Thanks and keep filling that plate with cookies, I am eating them up, thank you in understanding the mystery
