Why anyone would believe in cessationism is beyond me too, since it's just as secular because it's not biblical at all.
UMM Stephen my bible says they will

1 Corinthians 13

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

I think Paul says three times they will cease.

this sounds like a room full of some devils arguing like babbling babies what about the edifying it has been dsaid that higher criticism has been a huge stumbling block in the churches i see people taking about themselves to be as God judging about things before they are learned i will say it again Mat 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
divideth his spoils.
Luk 11:23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
we are here to edifying the word of God is our sword to guide us but not to forsake the gift of the holy spirit through the gift of God i seen the 9:11 incu=ident 3 years before its occurance but never said a word thus i have seen many spirits disguised as orur saviour but are indeed spirits to prevent the truth about God to be manifest as a result i will reveal these spirits are no more than the many denominations sects and organizations wich have watered the gospel to hide the truth in believers who want to believe in result we have a lukewarm if not cold church inset by divisions strife among one to another it is written a kingdom divided cannot stand . but let us be one body unified for the cause

fake words from God out of your own ego and imagination.

You have never seen me, heard me teach or preach, or have ever been to our church, Yet you have judged me SEVERAL times as a false teacher, false preacher, & a heretic in a cult. Because of your own words, YOU ARE A JUDGE. That's what I know. Your own words betray you. You just can't help but hang yourself. Nobody threw you a single piece of rope, yet you did it anyway!!!

in corinthians 13 it says the prophesies will cease the tongues will cease when that wich is perfect will come . I ask when wich is perfect will come answer me ? I will give you a little clue heres a scripture :Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. untill all the prophecy be fullfilled and we are united with christ in the new milenium from that moment on there will be no need of these gifts for the Lord will be with us .

Mat 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Mat 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Mat 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Mat 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Mat 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Mat 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Mat 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

You post way more articles than you do scripture, so...
got the stats on that stephen?

it's a claim you seem to be sure of.
can i see your notepad?

you might be right. but i'd need to see your spreadsheet....or abacus or whatever you're using.

what % of straight-up scriptures vs articles (assuming they don't have scripture in them or address the subject at hand) is acceptable?

is it just mini-posts with opinion on opinion and second-hand stories you want?

Thank you for your kind words, but I'm not angry right now. I have been in the past, but I have peace now. I realized that being at peace helps me to think more clearly in dealing with these situations. An angry person can be caught in their words.

Pro 8:1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
Pro 8:2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
Pro 8:3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.
Pro 8:4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
Pro 8:5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
Pro 8:6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
Pro 8:7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
Pro 8:8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
Pro 8:9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
Pro 8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
Pro 8:11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
Pro 8:12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.
Pro 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
Pro 8:14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
Pro 8:15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
Pro 8:16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
Pro 8:17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
Pro 8:18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.
Pro 8:19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
Pro 8:20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
Pro 8:21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.
Pro 8:22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
Pro 8:23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
Pro 8:24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
Pro 8:25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:
Pro 8:26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
Pro 8:27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
Pro 8:28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
Pro 8:29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
Pro 8:30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
Pro 8:31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
Pro 8:32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
Pro 8:33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
Pro 8:34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
Pro 8:35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
Pro 8:36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

We clearly can't be used by Him if we are angry. In fact, The Devil is at bay, lurking, when we go to bed angry, not at peace with one another, per Ephesians 4.

But, are we to speak the Truth in the midst of our conviction of Truth He's put inside us? Of course :)

Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another. 26BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger,27and do not give the devil an opportunity.

-----------------------------

The words in 1 Cor. 13 that really get me thinking are : we will know as we are known, and, there is really NO where in Scripture that correlates the word 'known' with knowing Scripture in full as the meaning of 1 Cor. 13.

But, as clearly as day is day and night is night, there are MANY passages wheere we are KNOWN by the Lord. This seems future foreshadowning reference to me of THIS VERY 1 Cor. 13 passage :

ove never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

Can you show that what is being seen or done is from the Lord? That is the plumb line. I don't think the Lord ever meant that the fakes were to be allowed in church,. Show me the real that's all I ask, because again if it's NOT FROM the Lord it is witchcraft, divination and iodolatry. How hard is that to understand.

Why don't you read I Corinthians 14 and ask, "Is that from the Lord?" when you read about it. What would your answer be? Would you say that these spiritual gifts that Paul urged the Corinthians to exercise were not from the Lord?

Why doesn't Paul write a chapter saying he doesn't know whether these spiritual gifts should be allowed in church, because he is not sure if the gifts are from the Lord or not? He doesn't. He writes urging believers to exercise spiritual gifts. He writes that 'to one is given' one manifestation or other of the Spirit, including prophecy, tongues, healing.

Why don't Paul operate with the level of suspicion that you do? I don't see that in the passage. If genuine believers are operating in the gifts of the Spirit, we have to have some level of trust. We don't put our trust in men. But we also realize that Satan can counterfeit.

The Biblical pattern is to allow the operation of the gifts of the Spirit, and then either the congregation, apostles, or elders deal with it. The men from Jerusalem were allowed to speak in Antioch in Acts 15. When they spoke error, Paul and Barnabas disputed with them. The Pharisees were allowed to speak in church in Jerusalem after that. When they also promoted Gentile circumcision, the apostles and elders met to discuss the matter and issued a letter on the issue. Paul wrote to Titus of elders contradicting the gainsayers. People have to be allowed to say before they are gainsayers, and if they gainsay, they the elders are to deal with them. There were some whose mouths must be stopped. The mouths have to move before the elders can stop the mouths from moving.

Paul writes to let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other weigh carefully. Paul says despise not prophesyings. Prove all things. Hold fast to that which is good. The prophecies have to be allowed to be spoken before the church can weigh it carefully. Not letting the prophets speak is disobedience.

That is the part that gets left out. So is what is being seen and shown of the Lord or not? That should be either a yes or no.
If the things have been shown can you show the real deal? My issue is again IS IT FROM THE LORD OR NOT. What is so hard to understand about that. It's really a simple thing. It is or it is not, there is no in between.
The Bible teaches us that there are real genuine gifts that are from the Lord. There are also false prophets. It's just a matter of believing what the Bible teaches. If you don't believe any prophecy or tongues is from the Lord, that doesn't agree with the Bible.

Do cessationists hate context, or what?
um...no.
cessationism read the accounts in context.
and doesn't narcigete the reader into the exciting parts of the founding the first century church.
plus there's that pesky church history.

Most consider the father of Pentecostalism to be Charles Parham, a young college student from Kansas with roots in the Methodist Church. While the Wesleys (John & Charles) could not be defined as Pentecostals, their theology laid the foundation upon which the Pentecostal movement would be built. Principally, it was the Methodist view that sanctification was a second work of grace, separate from salvation, coupled with the Holiness belief of a third experience, the "Baptism with the Holy Ghost and fire," that intrigued Parham. Parham was also influenced by a fresh desire within his denominational circles to experience divine healing and speaking in tongues -- practices that most Christians at the end of the nineteenth century believed had ceased with the Apostolic age.

In 1900, Parham opened a Bible college to promote these views, which he deemed "Apostolic Faith" theology. An interesting footnote is Parham’s theory that God would soon give His church the gift of tongues, in the form of known languages, so that the world could be quickly evangelized.

"This end–time revival, accompanied by believers speaking in known languages they had never learned (xenolivia), would bring to an end the church age and bring back a triumphant Christ" (Ibid. "American Pentecost" by Ted Olsen, p. 12). Of course later, when the rubber met the road, this theory proved untenable, and a new theory that tongues were unknown languages rose to the forefront.

cuz i'm not a prophet.
i have to study.....don't yoU?
I know what you mean about having to study. Even prophets have to study. Daniel studied Jeremiah.

We have to study to learn. We don't know it all. It's just like the Bible says "we know in part".

What do you know? That verse still applies to you.
