I can interpret between a couple of human languages naturally.
that's what the gift was.
but they didn't learn it.
it was a miracle.

you don't know that...because you have degraded the miracle.
made it into a joke.

with possibly eternal consequences.

where did you ever get the idea The Holy Spirit will ever direct anyone away from The Word, read and preached with clarity?
still don't get it, eh?

You need to study I Corinthians 14. The speaker in tongues uttered mysteries with his spirit. The speaker's mind was 'unfruitful.'
if you wouldn't mind just posting those passages, we'll take a look.
you're so in error, it's painful to watch.

but not many emerge from this.
if the True Holy Spirit isn't convicting you of this, i fear for you.
in any case....

Zone is well versed in the scripture but only by the carnal mind. She has not had her eyes opened by the Spirit. Which is the only way one can truly understand the full impact of the word of God.
fake prophecies and babbling like pagan idolators is how one truly understands the full impact of the word of God?
you don't appear to understand much of it.

the claim "evidence of speaking in tongues" is how one knows they have the Holy Spirit is a lie.

This post supports exactly what I said. Thank you. The mind is unfruitful because we don't know what we are saying but by faith we are trusting the Holy Spirit as He gives the utterance. It may sound like babble to us, but it is not.

If spiritual gifts were only for the immature, we would still expect to see them.
not the immature believer - the incomplete revelation of the scriptures, wherein God has NOW spoken - all is revealed...through which, everything needed is found.

making a mature church possible, and REQUIRED.

whose fault is it if you don't know that?

the Word & The Spirit are never directing away from each other.
if you have the Spirit, He will ALWAYS direct you to the Word.
and keep you in it.

He authored it.

2 Timothy 3
All Scripture is God-Breathed

10But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, 11Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God
and is profitable for doctrine
for reproof
for correction
for instruction in righteousness
That the man of God may be perfect
throughly furnished
unto all good works.

anything missing there?

I Corinthians 12-14 shows us that believers, regular believers in Corinth, functioned in these gifts. Paul says 'that ye come behind in no spiritual gift waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.'

Please study the passages we keep referring to over and over again. I Corinthians 12-14. The OP quotes verses that imply that regular believers in the church would speak in tongues, interpret, and prophecy. "Every one of you" is not Paul if Paul is somewhere else not in the meeting. You don't have any evidence that God has cancelled I Corinthians 12. If you can't show that, then you don't have a real argument. Paul never says the gifts would cease when he died. They aremanifestations of the Spirit, not manifestations of Paul.

That's not true. John had all those visions and revelation and prophesied about coming prophesying and miracles.

That last sentence was vague? Are you talking about his missionary work among the Gauls? Missionary work still goes on, you know.

There is more evidence for prophesying in the second century and afterward. _The Spirit and the Church, Volume I: Antiquity by Burgess is quite a heavy tome full of such quotes if you are sincerely interested.

Be that as it may, Paul was waiting for the perfect to come. He wasn't saying he was waiting for the Corinthians to be perfect. If Paul spoke wisdom among them that are perfect, wasn't he 'perfect' himself. (I'm just sticking with KJV language to represent the translated Greek words, hoping the readers understands.) If he was perfect and perfection corresponds with no miracles and no power, why did he continue to do miracles, and write such things as the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
e would still expect to see them. Since Jesus Himself was a great miracle workers and healer, we should not say that

As long as there is evangelism, there are going to be immature believers. If spiritual gifts were only for the immature, wmiracles are for the immature. The Bible says no such thing about spiritual gifts. Jesus referred to casting out demons as a miracle, and He said if He cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. These manifestations of the Spirit are a way in which the kingdom of God is manifested, something from the future age coming into our age, not merely something for the immature from the past.
[/COLOR]

UMM JOHN WAS AN APOSTLE ALSO. Paul also says in that passage that the gifts of tongues, prophecies and knowledge would cease. He does NOT say the other gifts that he lists elsewhere would cease.

And again you like to leave out that Paul also says now these three remain, faith, hope and love and the greatest of these of love. When is that time when all that remains is faith hope and love? By the Biblical definition of faith it can NOT mean when we see Jesus face to face. Not possible.

Hebrew 11

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
2 This is what the ancients were commended for.

We do not see Jesus now,Jesus is the focus of our faith, when we see Him face to face we will have the focus of our faith.

See the thing is you can only base those going on by that text, yet within that same text Paul says those gifts will end. You have nothing in any other letter where Paul,James,Peter, or John say one word about tongues.

The thing comes down Paul does say they will end within the context of those passages, the question is when? Not if.

1 Corinthians 13

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

And 1 Corinthians was one of the earlier letters written,Paul does not even mention one word of tongues in 2 Corinthians. (The same church having problems with tongues yet not one word in his second letter about it) and again not one word to any of the other churches after telling the church in Corinth that tongues WILL CEASE. Why doesn't Paul speak to ANY of the other churches about tongues? It is only mentioned to the one church Paul says he still has to give milk to. He even says they are still infants.

1 Corinthians 3

3 Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? 4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings?

And can anyone show me where someone was healed of this in an instant in the name of Jesus in this present time and place? I know Jesus did it. I know the apostles did it. The question is is someone STILL doing it in the same way they did it.

UMM the apostles and Jesus both did that. I have never said that God does not answer prayers for healing, wisdom, etc.

Philippians 4

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

UMM God still answers,Paul never said that God would NOT answer prayer. James says to ask.

Can any one show that the SAME GIFTS that the apostles had are being done in the very same WAY?

UMMM Where did God say that if we love someone that we are to turn a blind eye when they are listening to false teachers? Or are we to point out those errors?
no where in the Bible did God ever say to figure it out. But he did say upteen times, to trust God in all things.
So are you of self fighting what others believe against what you believe, and thus might not be being led by God.
We today are given the Holy Ghost by belief in God, being thus born again in God's Spirit to walk as Christ walked.
Christ's Job is done, finished, he did what he came here to do and that is:
Colossians 1:22 in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

Through his death, to give you life by his resurrected life, a gift from God to us all that believe, and scripture plainly states to not forbid tongues.
1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues

Okay, there are those that are fake, but Sister is CHRIST being preached?
What did Christ say to his disciples about that?
[h=3]Matthew 12:24-26[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

[SUP]24 [/SUP]But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. [SUP]25 [/SUP]And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
[SUP]26 [/SUP]and if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

God knows all, everyone's thoughts and motives, so why can't you just trust God to straighten it out.

Romans 14:4
Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

So are you done planting and or watering or are you just fighting in flesh?

Never said he was,but what makes one a false prophet or teacher? Is it just the claim of being the Holy Spirit,Jesus or God or is it more than that? Doesn't Jesus say that there would be BOTH false messiahs and false prophets that would be able to do signs and wonders?

Matthew 24

“If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.25 See, I have told you ahead of time.

And God living in us by belief in God through the finished work of Christ, we are taught by God and will know truth that sets us free and know who is false and who is not. So we thus are wise as serpents, harmless as doves. Get it
There are real and there are fake fruit. God does the discernment in us if we are God's through belief in God.
Harmless as doves, wise as serpents, hmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and this generation seeks signs as proof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when it is by Faith ye are saved, not as Thomas let me see physically. So much to learn, so much to see and the Joy, peace and righteousness is right in front of us so close we are blinded by the light

UMM Doesn't the Bible tell to TEST these things? Does not the Bible tell us to TEST the spirits?

1 Thessalonians 5

19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil

1 John 4

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

And again it does go into the heart of the issue if tongues ceased then it's not a question of allowing them or not.
How can tongues cease when it states do not forbid speaking in tongues?
1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

So to forbid it is against scripture plain and simple, can this scripture be denied?

The Bible tells us how the apostles went out and preached the word, with signs following. How did Jesus evangelize? Did He preach without doing signs, wonders, and healings? Or did He do all three? When He sent the Twelve out, did He command them not to heal the sick or raise the dead, or did He command them to do these things?

Paul wrote that from Jerusalem round about unto Illyricum, with signs and wonders, he had fully preached the Gospel of Christ.

Show me the book of the Bible that tells us how important it is to do evangelism without signs, wonders, and gifts of the Holy Spirit. I can't find that in my Bible.
Jesus worked miracles to establish His authority as the Messiah promised to Israel. Even after all His miracles including raising the dead Jesus was rejected and crucified. The Apostles preached Christ and signs followed them to establish their authority as Apostles of Christ. People believe on Christ not because of signs but because the word of God goes forth and the Holy Spirit confirms it's authority as the word of God. The authority is in the word of God and evidenced by the Holy Spirit using it to change men's hearts. Bringing conviction of sin, righteousness and Gods judgment. In every case the miracles and signs were to convince the Jews. Signs have never been for the Gentiles.
Do you disagree with the idea that the saint has intrinsic value other than being used as a tool for evangelism?

God is patient, wanting all men to come to repentance. But eventually, the judgment will come. If evangelism is all that matters, why would God allow the judgment to come at all? Why not let people live until they repent, or give them eternal chances thereafter.

God is preparing a bride for His Son. He is also using the church to display His wisdom to principalities and powers. Evangelism is not the sole purpose of the existence of the universe. Evangelism is part of preparing the bride for His Son. We need to be Christ centered when we think about these things, not purely man-centered.
We as born again believers are servants to the extent that we are purchased by Christ. We are not our own. The only thing that a slave/servant does is serve his/her master. In essence your intrinsic value is that of a bond slave to Christ. You are here to contrast the darkness of this sinful world. You are to be light. Everything you say or do is to be for God's glory.
Here is a question for you. What do you do with what the Bible actually says about these things? You know, the parts that don't fit into your narrow view of things? Like the passage mentioned in the OP.
The bible I believe it's you that causes me to doubt. You see every passage from a skewed perspective and that worries me. My greatest concern is that Pentacostal types are not exercising a form of religion but denying the power of God. Acting like Christians, sort of, and yet they themselves are lost. As to narrow that is the gate where we enter in. The wide gate is the path of destruction. Just saying.
Let's just hope other people don't think so little of how you decided to believe the Gospel.
The problem here is your definition of the Gospel not what I have decided to believe.

The church at Corinth was out of order and Paul was correcting them on the matter of the gifts. The modern church is out of order on the gifts and they will not heed correction. No amount of scripture will ever persuade a Pentacostal that they are in scriptural error.

The only gift that really matters is the gift of salvation. It is the one gift that all men must have with no exceptions. Churches that invest their efforts in producing any gifts other than the gift of salvation are disobedient and laboring in vain. The church and individual believers are to spread the gospel that sinners will be converted. We are witnesses of the saving power of God. Men must be saved or they will perish in eternal condemnation.

All this prophecy, healing and tongues is silliness and serves the devil because it distracts men from Christ and their need to be saved.

For the cause of Christ

Christ is being preached leave them alone as is what Christ said to his disciples, as they were wanting to stop those others from casting out demons and did not follow them. HMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are we listening. God knows who God will save, Have Mercy on whom God chooses, not me, you or you or anyone else.
Even Paul stated there are those of envy and strife not sincere and those of sincerity, that he will glory in both, Hmmm!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder why. Could it be that it is god that gives the increase. and I, you, and all that believe should realize we are nothing more than waterers and or planters
1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
1 Corinthians 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
Colossians 2:19 and not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
[h=3]Philippians 1:14-18[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

[SUP]14 [/SUP]and many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. [SUP]15 [/SUP]Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: [SUP]16 [/SUP]the one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: [SUP]17 [/SUP]but the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. [SUP]18[/SUP]What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

I don't know why Benny hinn is being mentioned. Anyone who takes him serious needs a dose of reality. He is a false prophet., a false healer, and drags The Lord's name through the mud.
I wonder though how many have truly come to believe in Christ through his preaching whether of truth or not?
Even though it is possible to be at the day of Judgment and rebuked, even though you cast out devils in his name and said at then others came to believe in you Christ and Christ says go away you who work iniquity. I (Christ) never knew you. Hmmm Motive, Motive, Motive. Hmm Truly if we do as the heathens do, for show as the hypocrites do and did, hmm, something for us all to think about maybe yes?
What is my Motive? Yours, yours and yours. For me I just want to know truth
[h=3]Philippians 3:10-11[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

Well, lutherans are under the bondage of law, Because they do not accept the Holy Spirit. Freedom can only be truly realised by the acceptance of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Otherwise a demon can say "I am baptised with the Holy Spirit yet I do not speak in tongues". Rick I admire you but, please tell no one to shove it. I understand how frustrating it can be to show someone something they do not believe as they have been taught not to all their life. Yet a muslim can be saved and shown otherwise but, only by the Holy Spirit. Zone is well versed in the scripture but only by the carnal mind. She has not had her eyes opened by the Spirit. Which is the only way one can truly understand the full impact of the word of God. Without the Spirit we look at the word with our own understanding, which is nothing compared to the intention of almighty God. I thank god for Martin Luther, I would not be where I am today without his input. Yet I think he would also reject what his church has become, rejecting the Holy Spirit and saying we have no longer a need for Him because we are intelligent and have the scripture as we interpret it. Go away Holy Spirit we don't need you nor want you.
You made the statement can't have the Holy Spirit without speaking in tongues.
" Freedom can only be truly realised by the acceptance of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues."

I personally have not spoken in tongues to this day and am in God filled with the Holy Ghost from and by God.
And I do not forbid to speak in tongues
1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

But I do seek or covet to prophesy, tell truth of God to others as God leads, and this can only be done by God through the Holy Ghost of God
Thanks Kerry

It does not say when they will cease and yes they have for me, as in the Faith hope and love. for the greatest of these is Love.
So to me and for me from God I see as you state it has happened to you as well and put down all the things that led you to the final victory, LOVE God's type best described in 1 Cor. 13:4-13 as you wrote verse 13. Not all have yet grown up to see this. So they have ceased in you, and me and many others, yet not all yet. Still working their way to see and understand the whole truth, fully that sets them free and is why Paul says to not forbid them to speak tongues.
We are to help each other grow up into maturity, as what is talked about in Hebrews 5:10-6:6 if God permit. anyway hoping and praying for us all to see truth as truth is and help each other to grow up.

And whether I, you or anyone else is grown up or not, we all one in the same to Father through Christ. No one is better than the other.

UMM Doesn't the Bible tell to TEST these things? Does not the Bible tell us to TEST the spirits?

1 Thessalonians 5

19 Do not quench the Spirit.20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt21but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil

1 John 4

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

Does it not also tell you love all as God does, whether they do believe or not, would this include the fakes?
Luke 6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

So how can we be any different than this world if we only love those that love us. Would this not be prejudice? Just keeping it on track to Father through Christ
