Most of the 4 Gospels are part of the Old Testament

After studying about the “Mount of Transfiguration” and the disciples that were present, I thought it good to study the books of 1[SUP]st,[/SUP] and 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Peter, and 1[SUP]st[/SUP], 2[SUP]nd[/SUP], and 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] John. Knowing these books are definitely New Testament, and knowing Peter and John were present with Elijah and Moses, I am curious how they these two people define the truth in New Testament terms.

Concerning James the disciple who was there, we know that the brother of Jesus wrote the book of James after Christ’s resurrection. This is not the same James who was at the “Mount of Transfiguration.” Knowing this, we cannot equate the book of James the same way we can the books Peter and John wrote.

After searching these scriptures, I might continue with the gospels of Mark, Luke and John, even though the cross references may be redundant to Matthew.

So here we have Peter, who after the experience on the “Mount of Transfiguration” winds up bragging that he would never forsake Jesus, and then crying because he eventually did. Then after Jesus’ crucifixion, basically says “the heck with it” and goes fishing half naked. If it were me, I wouldn’t think too much of my faith.

Then he writes a letter to God’s chosen people because he just can’t hide the truth within himself for their sakes. These Israelite families, centuries before, were captured by the Assyrians and Babylonians, and dispersed throughout the world as promised by God, through the prophets of the Old Testament. So, in summary, he starts by saying, “You have the writings of the law and the prophets - the Messiah has arrived!”

1 Peter 1:13-16 (KJV)
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
[SUP]14 [/SUP]As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

Peter’s not telling them that they better ‘buck up’ or they’re going to get smoked again. What he is saying, is that there is a ‘principle of relationship’ that their ancestors missed, and now through Christ Jesus they can receive the promise that was originally designed from the foundation of the world.

*Sanctify=Strong’s 6942= We are instructed to sanctify ourselves. Keeping God’s statutes because of His **holy character, that is revealed to us by Him, is how God makes us sanctified.

**Holy=Strong’s 6918=means sacred, blameless, fostering and warm brooding as a chicken sets on her eggs to hatch them, morally sacred, a sanctuary. To observe as holy.

***Perfect=Strong’s 8549=the perfect are complete and entire in mental integrity and with the moral character of truth, set out for a goal.

It isn’t that we keep His statues so we can be deemed as holy. It is because we first see Him as holy, and then reciprocate by wanting His holiness in our lives according to the care, love, and capability that we see in Him.

NOTE OF INTEREST:
There is an interesting truth as to how the church of Galatia, and other churches were able to understand the letters that Paul wrote to them when he mentioned the law. As the map shows, we can see the places where the people were, that Peter was writing to in 1 Peter 1:1-2 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

This information, concerning the Old Testament scrolls, was available to the gentiles by means of the writings that the scattered Israelites had concerning the law and the prophets. Take into account these scriptures, and then we can understand much better how Paul was able to convince people of the truth.

When the Galatians understood the truth, they no longer needed to study what was confirmed as the truth through the scriptures they had been privy to via the Israelites scattered throughout Greece and Turkey. You will also notice on the map Ephesus.

Notice that Jesus is talking to a ruler of the Jews and questions why Nicodemus can't understand. (See John 3:10) In other words, it was expected of the rulers of the Jews to know the concept of being born again. Jesus said marvel not in John 3:7. We will understand even better when we get into chapter 2 of 1st Peter.

Without Peter quoting from the law and the prophet’s, the dispersed people, (Israelites, and Jews) who already had these records, would have never believed or understood the dynamics of Jesus the true Messiah.

Knowing that Peter means stone (rock), I believe he was totally qualified to endorse the following principles of truth. Remember that right after Jesus changes Simon’s name to Peter, that Jesus told the disciples He was to be rejected and killed? Peter was rebuked when he (Peter) said to Jesus that He (Jesus) will never be rejected and killed. See Mark 8:31-33

8 also he is a stone that will make people stumble, a rock over which they will trip. They are stumbling at the Word, disobeying it - as had been planned.

In the following, we see through the writings of Peter, that he is referring to the Old Testament in almost every point that he presents. The story of our Savior, and His sacrifice, is clearly defined in the Old Testament. The details that Peter had observed first hand, and how important it was, is clear. Peter wants His readers to understand it according to what was written since the beginning of time. This is important so we know what was in the works from the beginning.

We know the story too, but until I started putting this all together, I didn’t realize there was so much information in the Old Testament concerning this final sacrifice (Christ alone) God has given for mankind.

And of course, John was the other disciple on the “Mount of Transfiguration” so we incorporate the above verse he wrote. Even Paul, a minister to the Gentiles, refers to the Old Testament Law in his teachings. (below)

Paul wrote to the Galatians (who had the writings of the law and the prophets) several years before Peter wrote to them, and that is another surprise to me. (See 1 Peter 1:1 and Galatians 3:24) One would think it was the other way around. 1 Peter was written in AD 65, and Galatians was written about AD 49 or 52 according to the Scofield study Bible.

Many people equate the commandment, and the law as the same. According to the Hebrew there is a difference.

“Mitzvot” is the Hebrew word for “*commandment.” It is, in the broader sense, general principles for living a good life.

“Torah” is the Hebrew word for “law” that literally means “teaching” or “Spiritual food”. The Greek word “nomos” is used to translate Torah, but actually means “law”. The Pentateuch, from Genesis through Deuteronomy, is called the “Torah” and the “Mitzvot” is the principles found in the teaching of the Torah. So, in fact, the Law is given to teach us His commandments.

So one could simplify the two as meaning the Torah teaches us the Mitzvot, or the “teachings” show us the “general principles for living a good life”.

It is important to know that Jesus was crucified on Wednesday the 14[SUP]th,[/SUP] as we know it by our calendar. According to the first Passover in the month of Abib, the lamb was taken on the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] day, and held until the 14[SUP]th[/SUP] day, and on that day it was slaughtered and eaten in haste. Jesus was buried before that night (nightfall was accounted to the following day) and rose from the dead (before dawn) the following Sunday as we know it. The Sabbath directly after the crucifixion was the annual Sabbath of Passover, and the day before Christ rose from the dead was the weekly Sabbath. Counting the days then, we understand that Jesus rose after 3 days as (*) Mark 8:31 says. One must understand that according to the Hebrew days, the next day started at sundown of the previous day.

We will see the Jesus needed both the mother and the foal for the Spiritual purpose that was to be brought forth. As I see it, Jesus only rode the youngster, while the mother was leading.

Matthew 21:2 (KJV)
[SUP]2 [/SUP]Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

Even though the word “them” is added in this scripture, (Matthew 21:2), it is obvious that both the mother of the colt and the colt, were brought to Jesus. The colt was untrained to follow the road, let alone that it had never been ridden before, therefore he had to be calmed and led by its mother.

The Hebrew word for a female (donkey/ass) is “athawn” (Strong’s #860) that has the attribute of patience. They are docile, taken from the Latin word “docilis” meaning to teach. The Hebrew pictorial language of the word “athawn” means to be strong in the full development of the physical, not apart from *deliverance, and salvation.

I don’t want you to think that the colt represents Jesus. Jesus is mastering a colt that is not broken, being led by its mother who is docile, patient, and apt to teach. So the representation of the mother, in spiritual understanding, is what God has created to lead that which is ushering our Savior into fulfilling His purpose. The mother represents the law and the prophets (Old Testament) not separated from *deliverance and salvation.

The following is one aspect of Jesus riding on the colt, as I have studied. I’m sure there is more, probably much more to understand about this. Any further information for Spiritual edification would be very welcomed, as long as it is non argumentative.

In Hebrew, the word for “donkey” stems from the same word that means “material.” A donkey represents everything in our material world. “Riding the donkey,” means to harness physical and to tame it, and bring it into submission. We need the physical aspects of the stories written in the Old Testament, to teach us understanding of the New. Jesus taught in parables, and God gave the law and the words of the prophets. If those things hadn’t been in place before Jesus Christ, there would have been nothing to fulfill. God’s timing is crucial.
1 Timothy 2:6 (KJV)

Male colt (donkey/ass) that followed its mother is the color of red. Hebrew name is “chamowr” (Strong’s #2543 same as #2544 “ass; Chamor, a Canaanite-Hamor” see Genesis chapter 34)
The Hebrew pictorial language describes this word as being separated by bloodshed, secured for destruction since the beginning. Also see Strong’s #2560.

This foal that Jesus was riding clearly is the chaos, wars, and bloodshed of this world, represented in the Old Testament of God’s instruction on how to subdue the Canaanites.

With all this said, I need to mention this “Palm Sunday” as written in the Gospels. We receive a picture of events much greater as we shout “Hosanna in the Highest!” which means, “Please! Deliver us!”

Romans 8:37 (KJV)

With this in mind, the Hebrew name Joshua is the Greek name Jesus. We can say that Joshua rode the Canaanites, (the evil that God’s children were to conquer) and Jesus rode the colt. Joshua represents the earthly things, and Jesus represents the heavenly things. But if we didn’t have all the stories of Joshua, and how he led the children of Israel, and rode/subdued the Canaanites, how could we ever relate to the significance of the colt that Jesus subdued?

John 3:12 (KJV)

A leader riding a donkey into an area, according to tradition, was a clear indication that the triumphant rider came in peace. This confirms that Jesus is the “prince of peace.”

Our God, the Father of all creation, gives to us the female donkey, representing the physical aspects of mankind and His instruction. It gives birth to a foal that is not mature, and despite this, our Savior is able to subdue and tame. Following the mother, the colt submits, enabling the Son of God to do something that no other person would ever think of. Without the conception in the beginning, there would be nothing new.

Eloheinu=our God
When you see 'el' in any Hebrew name, it is a form of the word for God. See other names such as Ishmael (God has heard), Michael (Who is like God), and Daniel (My judge is God).
Echad=unity

“Listen intelligently to the ruling God of Jacob. My Lord is God. He is unity.”

*Torah-Hebrew=#8451=a precept or statute pointed out by the scribe. The Decalogue or Pentateuch
*Torah-teachers is a more correct translation for a scribe in that a “scribe” is merely a professional writer according to Greek #1122.
*Teachers- Hebrew=#3887= to interpret or intercede
**Scribe-Hebrew=#5608 not only writes but also enumerates.
So according to the Greek word **scribe, this person was not just a professional writer, but also a minister of the Torah. He distributed the authoritive prescription, injunction, commandment, and precept of the ***“mitzvah”, according to the Greek. (#1785)

Actually, anything written before the cross is all about the cross that was a coming and all under law, specifically given to the first Chosen, Given to Moses to give to the First Chosen, those that were now free from the bondage of Egypt. Yet they all seemed to have sought out their own righteousness by obeying the letter of the Law, not the Spirit as Chrsit was showing all while he was on earth, especially to his disciples, that their Spirit is willing as many others are as well, but their flesh they were born with is weak, and in need of being born again, in the Spirit of God.
All the work he did before bringing in the New Covenant of Love, filled and completed in the Spirit, not flesh.
Christ showed all their inability to follow Law in perfection. That it can only be done in Love his Father's love, and we need new life in the Spirit to attain this type of Love.
Anyway, before the cross under the curse of the Law that when it flows through flesh, we are shown we can't obey it in perfection. Cur off thy hand, thy foot, gouge out thy eye, better for part of us to enter heaven than all of us to go to hell.
Pretty strict words prior to the cross yes?
So after the cross are we to say thanks and go out and harm others and say thanks I am forgiven, no need to care for anyone since I am forgiven as the Corinthians thought and did accordingly. Which is the reason Paul wrote the first letter to them. Because of their error, "not in being forgiven" in taking it as an occasion for the flesh and just do whatever, no discernment as to who God made them to be by God's resurrection of Son Christ.
You see before the cross, we were dead in trespasses and sins. After the cross by the death we all were and are forgiven. Christ's death then if we see this becomes our death to self, and we ask Father to co-crucify us to the death of Christ, so after we see we are dead to self sin, we are raised anew in the Spirit of God, being born again as is what Christ said he came to do was to give us life
