This countries debt problem, is a sin problem. It is rooted in covetousness and greed.

[h=3]Proverbs 13:22[/h]New International Version (NIV)

[SUP]22 [/SUP]A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children,
but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

[h=3]Proverbs 13:22[/h]New International Version (NIV)

[SUP]22 [/SUP]A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children,
but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

[h=3]Nehemiah 5:3-5[/h]New International Version (NIV)

[SUP]3 [/SUP]Others were saying, “We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards and our homes to get grain during the famine.”
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Still others were saying, “We have had to borrow money to pay the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards. [SUP]5 [/SUP]Although we are of the same flesh and blood as our fellow Jews and though our children are as good as theirs, yet we have to subject our sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters have already been enslaved, but we are powerless, because our fields and our vineyards belong to others.”

well diggs....you can not print money out of thin air; lend it to the gov't at compound interest and not have debt slav.....hey.....if i didn't know better i'd think someone planned it.

nah.

Zechariah 5
5Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, “Look up and see what this is that is approaching.”

6So I asked, “What is it? ”

He responded, “It’s a measuring basketh that is approaching.” And he continued, “This is their iniquityi in all the land.” 7Then a lead cover was lifted, and there was a womanj sitting inside the basket.k 8“This is Wickedness,” he said. He shoved her down into the basket and pushed the lead weight over its opening. 9Then I looked up and saw two women approaching with the wind in their wings. Their wings were like those of a stork,l and they lifted up the basket between earth and sky.

10So I asked the angel who was speaking with me, “Where are they taking the basket? ”

11“To build a shrine for it in the land of •Shinar,”m he told me. “When that is ready, the basket will be placed there on its pedestal.” - Holman

Simply put, it is one man who wants to destroy USA. He wants
America to live in poverty. He has reason for raising the debt that
can never be paid. He wants it to be the 'ONE MAN SHOW.' It is
so easy to blame people in general, but oh so hard to admit to any
wrong doing. Much prayer is needed for our country. ~

Fox criticizing the Tea Party quite strongly surely is a sign of the end times.

This is why I'm more libertarian than anything. The government controls so much that we're dependent on them now. When parts of it shut down, people are left high and dry, while the people who make those decisions get paid more than most of us combined. I'm tired of being forced to pay into something that is so corrupt and very clearly not working towards the benefit of the people.

It's something stupid to be upset about compared to everything else in the government shutdown, but the national parks thing gets me. It's great that they have laws that help protect these national parks, but seriously? Kicking people out of areas of nature because the government can't get its act together? I wish there was a way these parks could be run by local stuff (government? businesses?), so that the government can't cut off mountain passes and scenic drives because of their mistakes.

Actually from what I understand a couple of states have tried petitioning for federal controlled lands to be returned to state control with the exception of military bases etc. Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah have all tried since they have disproportionately large percentages of their land controlled by the Fed between BLM, Dept of Forestry, National Parks and Monuments, etc.

Thomas Jefferson once said this:
If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered...I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.

Of course if the Federal government had stayed within it's original intended constitutional bounds, there wouldn't be the financial disaster or very much to shut down.

Wow, Jimmy! That was an incredible video about the debt. Makes it more real. Everyone, not just Americans should be required to see that video. Esp. the elected officials.

Makes me wonder, I admit.

PS. I try not to comment on American politics, as it has got me in a lot of trouble, but then, what is going on is already a lot of trouble, and Canada will be affected, one way or another. Besides many of my friends already having issues because of this.

ok so the government will now be restricted to only carrying out essential governmental services...

...but isn't that all the government is constitutionally supposed to be doing anyway??
How prehistoric of you to make such a valid point. I suppose that some could take advantage of this on wall street and others would be a little upset over losing some pay, I don't believe for a moment that we are in any danger of collapse or ruin. The truth about Obamacare needs to be spelled out and known by its participants especially after the fact that health care covers and effects one sixth of the economy. But like our beloved proponent Nancy Pelosi remarked, 'we have to pass this measure of health care so we can find out what's in it and how it works' (paraphrase).

it happens every so often...this one over arguments as to additions by the GOP to restrict Obamacare...

really, it's just a manipulative tactic both sides enjoy in trying to upset the voters.
it'll all be sorted soon. always is. :)

You have to admit, this measure of health care effects all the people and there is lots of money involved that can be manipulated as to who it will benefits and in what areas it covers. I guess for those who want change they just might get it with Obamacare.

Lest we only look at the first part of the stalemate - the ACA, this is also about the debt ceiling.

In 2011 there was a threat that the govt would shut down due to the impending raise of the debt ceiling. An eleventh hour compromise was reached and the ceiling was raised by 1.5 trillion dollars, with the agreement that 1.2 trillion dollars of spending would be cut (but those cuts could later be, for lack of a better word, cut). The cuts weren't even going to have to take place until 2013. Most of those cuts never happened, and never will because they can be ignored.

It's 2 years later, and that 1.5 trillion dollars has been spent. 1.5 trillion dollars was spent in two years. The previous administration has been blamed for this huge debt because of the Iraq + Afghanistan wars. Both of those wars are just now touching 1.5 trillion dollars after 12 years (still about 30 billion shy), some of that money having been spent after 2008.

The US has a massive debt problem.

For me, truly, it is just the fact that the average joe workers are the ones that are actually paying for this shutdown, as they are put on furlough and are not paid, while those causing this shutdown will continue to receive their obscene paychecks. This has always been the issue. The higher ups that cause the disturbance are untouched by the repercussions of their actions while those that are lower down get all the repercussions.
1) Let the average Joe's find real jobs over time, meanwhile, may they find salvation thru the church.
2) Let the higher ups earn their pay checks the old fashion way.
