Makeup/Done up (Girls AND guys discussion)

- Do you wear makeup? Why or why not? If you don't, do you wear it for special occasions or not at all?
I do not wear makeup, even for special occasions. It's a personal choice for me... I choose not to spend the time or money. I understand if some ladies do, but it's just not "me".

- Do you feel comfortable going out in public without makeup? Why or why not?
Haha... yes.

- What do you think is "too much" makeup?
When I see someone and my first thought is "Makeup!!!", then I think it's too much... or maybe not applied quite right.

- How do you feel when you get "done up"?
I have never been "done up". But now you've gotten me wondering how I would feel.

For both:
- What do you think society/culture says about women and the expectation of makeup?
Makeup seems to be very much expected, which has always struck me as odd. I've heard men tell their girlfriends/wives to "make themselves pretty" so that they could go out to dinner, and it kind of made me cringe. Are they not pretty already?

- A friend of mine said that the quote "Guys like girls to go all natural, no makeup" actually means "they like already naturally pretty girls". Thoughts on this?
I have no thoughts on that. I don't think I'm qualified to answer. I do know that people are incredibly diverse, so I'd guess that it's true for some people and not others.

Ha ha, if you go by Christian lore....it was Azazel, a fallen angel.....who first introduced makeup to mankind.

Here's a short quote from the book of Enoch about the whole thing.

I'm hoping we can gain some insight as to what those of our own gender think as well as the other gender.

Makeup does not make a girl pretty, nor does it even help (In my and Liamsons opinion anyway, perhaps there are others that would disagree with us). That's the idea that sells the stuff but the overwhelming majority of the time, it just diminishes the beauty the woman actually has. It has the opposite effect of the reason it's applied for....lol, it's ironic.

Your friends statement makes absolutely no sense if you have an outlook like me and Liam do......the phrase "They like already naturally pretty girls" implies that makeup can actually help or bestow some type of beauty that isn't "natural"....which I don't buy into at all.

Early churches used it. It was a commonly accepted and respected book in earlier times. It's not mainstream these days, but it was at one point. It's just as big of a part of Christian history/legend as it is Jewish.

And yep, that's how the supposed giants with the 6 fingers 6 toes got here.....The Goliath people, whatever you want to call them. lol

I dont mind makeup if its tasteful. Some girls just use too much. Like if you have a colared shirt on and your foundation is rubbing off on it, then you wore too much. Lipstick seems to be one I notice girls slather on relentlessly around here. But some light concealer and eye makeup is normally alright.

Heck Ive done eyeliner and nail polish back in my younger days.

When I see a girl/woman with too much makeup on, my instincts tell me to immediately call Ringling Bros./Barnum Bailey Circus & let them know that one of their clowns fell off the truck. *snicker*

Most people I think want girls to wear it. Media promotes it.. Some might think I am a Tomboy or stuff for not wearing it.. At the end of the day I don't care... It's what Jesus thinks that counts! He loves me..

I think most guys want girls to be what society says is pretty... Some however want girls to be beautiful! Beauty is way more about inside than out. I'm more physically cute than pretty but when older hope that the man I date then marry is in love with me not my hair smile or shape... I do think that some guys saying this mean naturally pretty... I also think that we are harder on each other than guys are more of my female peers have commented about my looks than guys have...
Honestly society places way too much importance on looks.

Makeup is not needed but if it makes a girl feel happy and confident she should wear it. Also I'm lucky I have clear skin, if I didn't I might wear some makeup... It isn't right but society judges us

Deep down it is about Jesus and He loves us as we are.

I think when your nose is on an even plain with your lips... that's too much makeup.

I feel pretty.

If a car needs paint, you should paint it.
Be sure to use primer first.

I expect a girl to have fake complexion, fake lips, fake eyelashes, fake nails, fake hair, fake height,
and fake... errr... umm... ahhh... fake frontal parabolic curvature.

"Too much" could be April Levigne, but she is accepted because of her voice, and her husband likes the way she is (I guess so).
When she is wearing too much make up I think: She is a painter.
Occasions? She is free to wear all that stuff as "war paint", but I have seen they like to wear it more on fridays (probably planning a date or expecting to be taken out).

The make up is to draw visual attention, to show better, TO COVER UP SOME FACIAL FAULTS... (that's why I wear my bear) Ha! Ha!

Yes! We men like some make up some times. It is like watched my mountains covered with clouds, in a grey day, I like some changes (not everyday or each week)

Desmond Morris wrote an interesting book speaking on CULTURE, I think it is "Naked men (or woman)". I agree on several of his points to this insight.

Makeup was "invented" to draw men's attention, and this is for sex (pitifully)

Here I would ask my daughter: Why do you need it? But she thinks her ways and does what her mother permits.

I have bad discoloration on top of my eye lids, it's dark pink. It looks like im wearing a lot of eye shadow. I put cream on top of my eyelids to make them look like the rest of my skin. I have the same thing under my eyes and on my cheeks. I wear make up to make my skin look like its all the same color. I don't do eye shadow or liner or any thing else really. Oh but i do lip gloss! I love that stuff

Lot's of lipstick, heavy eye liner, heavy eye shadow, lots of foundation.

Culturally it is. I've grown up hearing about it and have even experienced it. Women trying to choose what i will wear. Nudge me, push me, buy something that is what She likes, not what I like. Its a well known mentality. Which actually fits with the psychological approach that women take in a relationship. Which is women look for potential. Expecting to see a man change. But really the whole 'tell a man how to dress' mentality stems from the modern concept of marriage/dating, which is the woman is in charge and the man just says 'yes ma'am' and doesn't argue.

And nope, but someone posted that pic in a thread so, naturally, i had to pick it up and use it since it seemed to disturb people. We all thought it was meatloaf. Finding out its cake kind of takes the fun out of it. : /

I used to wear make EVERYDAY, I'd only wash it off when I slept and that's about it. In the picture I have now is the way I used to do my make up all the time. However I don't wear as much now. If I'm going out I feel better to wear cover up, I'm a little insecure about my skin...and then my mom says things like, your eyes are pretty without make up but your eyes "pop" with make up on. which made me feel like I'm not as pretty without make up. But I don't pay too much attention to it....

I've found that beauty is a spiritual problem, the closer I am to God the more confident I am because I discover Gods love and He loves ME, He see's beyond my outward appearance. "Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart."

People who wear too much makeup and they don't feel like they can go anywhere without it, its really a spiritual problem I know from experience. However I don't think make up in itself is bad (Its only bad when it becomes a mask, or a covering kinda like Adam and Eve trying to cover themselves with leaves instead of dealing with the real problem)

My mom always used to say "Make up highlights what God has given you!" I partially agree with that. I don't think its wrong to highlight what God has given you, even doing your hair and dressing nicely "Taking care of what God has given you" is outward adornment. There needs to be balance.

Sounds silly but when I wear make up I want it to look really natural so you cant even tell I'm wearing any...but yet cover the small blemishes. Like I have big pores, and I'm pale...so I wear cover up and add a bit of blush but I want it to look natural not pastey.

My fiancé doesn't like make up, but he knows that I like it so he buys make up for me. He always says "I don't want a painted doll" He says I paint my face haha So I kinda met him in the middle, instead of wearing the full works of make up like before I just wear cover up, a little blush, a tinted chapstick instead of a gloss or lipstick and a little mascara. Instead of putting pounds of make up on and I think he likes it now and I'm happy. I don't believe in completely changing myself, but I do want to make my fiancé happy too. Besides if I'm not trying to look beautiful for him, who am I trying to look beautiful for? I don't want to deceive myself.
