In and of itself black hair means NOTHING ...UNLESS you see it in a dream on a person that you know that does not have black hair in real life. Then it would REPRESENT that their wisdom COULD be an evil type of wisdom....or of the world. Certain ethnic groups have black hair...it is a part of their genetic make-up. Does it mean their sinful? No, just like being blond does not really mean a person is dumb or stupid. There are also ethinic groups that are of the blond nature...Norwegians for example, and most Swedes.
Having white hair, IN DREAMS, can signify WIDSOM OR MATURITY. But in real life, it means old age or, again, genetics.
The only reason that people DYE their hair? Vanity.

Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. This is in reference to making false vows. WE are not to swear by the hair on our heads because WE have no control over it's coloration...it can change without notice. So to swear upon something that is not stable would render the vow unstable or even void...what if the person went bald?

I love how you just judged people you don't even know. Classic. Remind me again, where did Yeshua make rampant judgments about people he knew nothing about?

I'm reading through this, and I don't think the symbolism of colors is really the point here. I'm sure this (like so many biblical phrases) can likely be traced to some kind of Hebrew idiom, which I could look into..

But I don't think it's strictly necessary to get the message. Whatever it meant for a person to swear by their head, we're not supposed to do that. We CAN understand that we are unable by trying to make a single hair on our heads go (naturally, from the root) lighter or darker.. it simply it what it is.

The more important theme of this passage (Mat 5:33-37) is simply that we are not to take oaths. I was relieved to find, for example, that my State has allowed "affirm" to be used in place of "swear" when a person takes the stand. I was quite worried about this, because I don't belive in taking oaths, due to this passage.

But the message is more than just refraining from the activity of swearing. We are being charged with the responsibility to live up to what we say, so that our "Yes" really DOES mean "yes" not "maybe" or "if I have time." Personally, I think that's a much richer message anyway, that can lead to years of personal growth, if we allow it shape our lives.

Give me a reason to dye one's hair that is NOT based in vanity. Vanity is not necessarily evil. There is nothing wrong with trying to look good...or better. It is only wrong when someone is obsessed with looking better and ends up spending way too much time or too much money on the 'project'.
So YOU judge me for calling an apple, an apple. You are young. I'll let it go.

1. Mobius is closer to Christ's age than you are, and I am pretty sure you would never use that line on Christ, so don't use it on Mobius.

2. although I find it highly odd to use this scripture on Mobius, since I've always looked up to him as someone older and wiser than me, 1 Timothy 4:12 . I would have to say that overwhelming, based off of what a person can know about another person online, Mobius displays what that scripture asks for. I would suggest that you do not pull the age card on someone whose character you do not yet know.

Just one reason?

"All war is deception" The Art of War by Sun Tzu

IF *I* were a Jew in nazi Europe, you better believe I'd be williing to bleach my whole family's hair blond, and get the heck out of dodge.

Is it common? Of course not. But it's valid, and it's not vanity.

It can easily apply to other aspects of warfare, as well. We could argue whether Christians should be involved in spying (I'd say it's slightly better than actually going out and killing people, myself), but I would DEFINITELY say that Isreal would have never been born, much less survive to this day, without the Mossad.

Matthew and Hollie gave enough, I think. And what's wrong with dying your hair to look better?

So YOU judge me for calling an apple, an apple. You are young. I'll let it go.
*shrug* I didn't judge you, I merely said your words were a judgment - which they were.

Also, I really don't care how old you are and how young I am. It doesn't make you any better or smarter than I.

IF...and I do mean IF people understood that they have authority over the wicked enemy that wants to kill them...in every sense of the word, they would not walk in FEAR and enter into the world's method of protection.

YES...it is for vanity. It is for SELF...self protection, self enhancement, self satisfaction.

I'm NOT saying it's wrong to dye your hair!! Sheesh!

If you say dying your hair is vanity, then yes, you ARE saying it is wrong to dye your hair. Because vanity is not a positive word. It means pride, conceit, etc, in one's looks. And if you're a Christian, pride and conceit are supposed to be bad.

self protection is not vanity. It's a basic human instinct that through time we might learn to control, but cannot do away with completely. Life is a valuable commodity, and as such we try to protect it and cherish it. If in the process of doing so, we have to change our appearance in order to survive and stay among the living, that is not vanity. That is a primal instinct that I believe was instilled in every man by God so that we might not be stupid and take stupid risks. Because, if one does not value life and does not have a self-preserving instinct, that person is prone to be reckless and take reckless risks, or is prone to become a cruel human being of some sort who gets his jollies off of torturing others.

To not value the life G-d has given you is a sin, imo.

Also, I really don't care how old you are and how young I am. It doesn't make you any better or smarter than I. When did I claim to be better or smarter than you? I did not. But I WILL claim to be more experienced and more educated, which I SHOULD be BECAUSE I AM older. You have an attitude of taking offense when none in intended.
And if you're a Christian, pride and conceit a re supposed to be bad. And what about being disrespecting elders? You take offense because, to you, I SOUND prideful, when all it is is confidence in what I KNOW to be true. I know who my God is and who I am in Christ.
IMO, your life experience has not been long enough to afford you education that I've received, but only because of your youth. I'm almost THREE times your age!! And instead of considering that I MIGHT know a little more about a certain topic, you take offense and lash out...showing your own condition.
Dying hair IS vanity. So WHAT??? Who cares? So are getting braces or putting on make-up...which every woman in her right mind does. It's all about looking DIFFERENT than we really do....looking BETTER.

As for the witness protection program? It is the WORLDS way of dealing with the fear of being killed. CHRISTIANS are more powerful than those in the world!!! But most do not know or believe that...and if they do believe it, they don't know how to walk in it.
THe Christian's 'self-protection' should be to tell the enemy to take a hike and to cancel the assignments of death from the kingdom of darkness over their lives. THAT is the ULTIMATE of 'self-protection' in Christ...in the Kingdom. Are you IN the Kingdom of Heaven?

I've not taken offense to a single thing you said. You just seem to pull the age card quite a bit when dealing with people younger than you. I was merely making an observation.

And what about being disrespecting elders?

That's pretty bad too.

You take offense because, to you, I SOUND prideful, when all it is is confidence in what I KNOW to be true. I know who my God is and who I am in Christ.
Once again: I haven't taken offense to a single thing you've said.

IMO, your life experience has not been long enough to afford you education that I've received, but only because of your youth. I'm almost THREE times your age!! And instead of considering that I MIGHT know a little more about a certain topic, you take offense and lash out...showing your own condition.
Again: I haven't taken offense to a single thing you've said, nor have I lashed out at you. And what "condition" am I showing?

And before implying that I ought to consider the possibility that you know more about a certain topic than I do, have YOU ever considered that *I* might know a little more about a certain topic than you?

Dying hair IS vanity. So WHAT??? Who cares? So are getting braces or putting on make-up...which every woman in her right mind does. It's all about looking DIFFERENT than we really do....looking BETTER.
That's not vanity. Vanity is pride or conceit in the way one looks - which is bad, negative, not good.

As for the witness protection program? It is the WORLDS way of dealing with the fear of being killed. CHRISTIANS are more powerful than those in the world!!! But most do not know or believe that...and if they do believe it, they don't know how to walk in it.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe G-d put things like the Witness Protection Program on earth for us to use when we need them?

Also, and this is just a question born of curiosity, but...are you challenging the faith of people who use things like the Witness Protection Program?
