maybe there's something wrong with me, but i am not one of those girls who expect any guy to make a huge deal on valentines day.
i'm one of those girls who is FAR more touched by some romantic or grand gesture on a day where he isn't being prompted by society and the Hallmark company to spend some money on a certain day. it strikes me as contrived and insincere.
i can't even tell you how many awkward valentine's days i've gone through where a guy got me something simply because he thought it was what was expected of him.
it's like the only day of the year where it is acceptable to give a woman who neither likes candy or stuffed animals 6lbs of chocolate and a fuzzy bear that says "i heart you".
or some other trinket of love that is made en masse for all the poor guys who need a giant sign that says "valentines gifts here".
the most romantic things i've ever had a guy do for me were things that were unexpected but reflected that he was thinking of me and wanted to do something to make my life better or surprise me with something i wanted or wanted to do. for awhile now i've been pretty vocal about giving out passes on valentines day.
but i still feel so sorry for the guys running around the store/street/city, sweating bullets while trying to locate something or make plans to avoid being in the doghouse or seen as insensitive louts.
in fact, sometimes i think women are more worried about what OTHER women will think about them if they don't have enough of a fuss made over them or whatever. as if anyone can really understand what is going on in another person's relationship...
just my two cents.
