Where do you go to comfort your soul in difficult times?

Do you go to your church/chapel? Your bedroom? Your bathroom? (Yes, some have nowhere else) Someplace special? Do you go for a drive? Go for a walk? Go shopping? Go for a run? A swim? To a friend's house? Inquiring minds want to know.

I usually go for a drive. Then on that drive I might stop and find a nice place in nature to walk or.sit and watch nature.

I NEED to be outside. There's something peaceful and calming about it. My favorite was when I worked nights and would go outside on breaks at 3 in the morning. Beautiful nights.

When I had roomates, the only escape was to lock myself in my room or physically leave the house & walk to a park or somewhere...anywhere.

When I was married, many times I would just go sit out on my deck in the mornings with a cup of coffee before the ex was awake...sometimes with my dog...and just chill. I miss doing that. Miss having a place that is mine and is peaceful.

Now I make due with where I am,and oddly enough when I spend time with certain people & talking with them I feel that comfort and ease...and it almost feels like home,restful...warm. Kinda odd I suppose, maybe I'm not making sense, but yeah...that's what works for me. :)

For me, it's about water. I like taking walks by the river. Every three months or so, I take a sanity break and go to the ocean.

The beach, oh man, if only I lived close to one...

There really is something soothing about water.

I wish I had my own private swimming lake, surrounded by mountains and pine trees, where no one else could bother me or see me (nor would I have to have any doubt or worry that someone would find it). It would be beautiful and clear and just a tad chilly at first to wake me up but then I'd get used to it. Something about swimming, water flowing, being underwater where the rest of the world is muffled, it's just...calming. It would have a sandy beach and it would be a lake with waves, and I could walk softly on the shoreline while the water runs past my ankles.

But in real life...

A drive sometimes helps, usually with music blasting, singing/yelling my soul out. If it's nice out, a walk. :)

All this talk of being near water...
All this talk of being around water...

You guys are making me wonder if I'm missing out on something when I clean my toilets. :)

Maybe when I get done I need to just open the lid and stare at the clean, blue water for a while?

I can just see it: "I stare into my toilet for half and hour... and then I'm ready to go out and take on the world!" :)

(Replying to Praus in regards to my earlier post.)

The water in my toilet is definitely not blue because it's reflecting the sky--I don't have a skylight in my bathroom, and I keep the blinds on the window closed (I'm not into drawing an audience while in the bathroom.)

I had thought this would be kind of obvious since I mentioned cleaning the toilet... But apparently I overestimated the given explanation. The water in my toilet is blue because, ta da... the type of cleaner I use happens to be blue. Deep, scientific explanation, I know.

So yes, if I'm wanting to switch it up, I could certainly use a red (or chartreuse, or seafoam, or hot pink) colored cleanser. :)

Now, to keep this thread on-topic... I suppose I can say that my mind is going to a happy, calming place just by thinking of the bright blue water in my freshly-scrubbed, Sno-Bowled toilets... ;)

I barricade myself in a room with loud music.

Usually metal with overt worship themes, or scriptural connotations. If the music is a two-fer and it has both, so much the better.

I used to be able to get in my car and drive up a dirt road to the river...and I could sit there for hours, just watching the water or birds or the sky.

I don't have the luxury of getting out of the house when I need to anymore.

My porch is where I often go now, if I have five minutes I can spend by myself. From there, I can see the stars (or clouds), or soak up the sun, or let the wind whip around me. All of that makes me feel alive and that's a huge comfort to me because it means I am still in here somewhere.

for some weird reason, i can't stand toilet blue water. i have a overly developed sense of smell, and the smell plus the visual (not to mention my overly developed fear of conventional cleaners) is just too weird for me. :)

anyway, back to the thread, i like to bake, cook, or do some house-bound project like storming a closet or cleaning the floorboards when i am stressed out.

of course, depending upon my level of stress, sometimes i end up eating said baked goodies and watching some nostalgic and sentimentally favorite movie.
