I dont think you know what the word prophecy or prophet means. It means to teach the Prophets, guess what, the prophets teach what ? God's words, that is what the Old testament, and the new testament is.

The word means teacher of God's words. The only thing Paul did in that letter, was to quell chatter going on in that church, by women, and men.
Seeing Paul persecuted the church at one point, he attacked women: knowing these dangers, Paul also gave them the option to Not teach God's words. But as we can read from scripture, God has no issue, with using women to teach.

Paul, in another letter, says women do teach. People kind over look that one. Do you know where that is written ?

Not quite. Prophet: 5030 OT - Hebrew: a prophet or (generally) inspired man:--prophecy, that prophesy, prophet.

What letter is this? Also verse?

And prophets speak what God has showed them through visions or direct communication. A pastor doesn't do that. Also a pastor leads, prophets tend not to. To me its more the fact that a pastor is a leadership role, where in the bible we can see that men lead, women do not. Also Paul isn't giving an option. He clearly is saying "I do not permit" That isn't an option.

Remember what Peter did with the 12 on Pentecostal day ? He said this is an example of what would happen in the latter days, prophesied of Joel .

What is Peter doing ? He is standing up, teaching God's words; Contained in the prophets yes ? And what dose he say will happen ? He says women, will do the same. Because God will literally have His Holy Spirit speak though them, and teach God's words to the people, as Peter and the others illustrated.

To prophecy means to teach God's words.

INstead of "I do not suffer a woman to teach or have authority over a man but to be silent."

Do you think, tuck, we could say, "God does not suffer a woman to teach or have authority over a man but to be silent." ???

And, if Paul was saying that, would Paul be wondering if he was speaking for God, I wonder? Job spoke for God and.... How did that turn out for Job? Not good, huh, read chapter 38 on as God speaks to Job about who is boss and who ain't .
Didn't God come into the picture of Job's wallowing and say, 'Who is this that darkens my counsel?' Wasn't he speaking to Job? So, does God allow us to have our own opinions? Like Paul has an opinion here about women. I mean, true, God's words in the bible are holy inspired, all for 'proof', and 'correction,' and, even, "rebuke," but......is Paul speaking of a personal situation preference here. I mean, he is, we know that, afterall, Paul says, 'I suffer not...' This tells us, indeed, Paul, and, NOT God, and, not Jesus in His red-letter words is speaking here. It IS Paul, tuck. :)

So, yes, there is an option. "I (Paul) do not suffer a woman to teach..." or, the option is "God does not suffer a woman...."

Natolator, it's good what you say here about Acts and verses given tuck to peruse for women allowed to speak, "God no respecter of persons," but, no, 'prophesy' does not mean teach. It means to predict the future and you do weaken what you're saying when you say that it means different.

proph·e·sy
ˈpräfəˌsī/
verb
verb: prophesy; 3rd person present: prophesies; past tense: prophesied; past participle: prophesied; gerund or present participle: prophesying

1.
say that (a specified thing) will happen in the future.
"Jacques was prophesying a bumper harvest"

predict

Nothing of these words for 'prophesy' suggest someone who is teaching.

But, yes, it's not men alone who can be evangelists, apostles, prophets, teachers, or, yes, preachers. Women can preach, too. I agree, bro.

No, tuck, Phil thought that I was being disrespectful when I called him 'philly,' but, as you now know, too, I was not.............
As tucksma noted, I expressed my disapproval of you doing that, yet you continued to do it.
That is disrespect. The same way you ignore the wishes of God to justify doctrines of men.
That is disrespectful AND sacrilegious.
You need to stand in front of a mirror and do some serious soul searching.

And it is not what "I thought" you were doing, it is an observation of your conduct.
You have a loooong way to go before you are ready for strong meat.

My sig applies to you.

no, you said it was 'childish' to call you 'philly,' and, I said, no, it was not, it's just a variation of your name, a nic, not meant disrespectful in any way, shape, or, form, bro. You just took it that way, but, no prob, phil, no problem at all. :)

No, you do. It's you who is disrespectful when you start calling out fellow brothers in Christ, or, sisters, which you are doinhg, I am staunch in my faith, been a Christian since long as I can remember, never doubted God being in my life, seen His work in my life many many times. The Lord's led me to say and do things that are amazing, His will , His way , His work, through me, His workmanship, just as Ephesians 2:10 says.

But, that is fine, you seem to continue to want to judge me, and, my ways. I suggest you don't, the Lord, indeed, leads and it's semantics anyway. You already told me that you believe a woman can be "used" by God, no? So, again, it's really unarguable, this thread, like I said, if you said 'no,' to God calling a woman to EVER be a pastor, YOU are wrong. Because YOU don't know God's thoughts or ways. And, Paul, ultimately, though, yes, did write inspired from God the epistles he wrote does not either have God's mind. NONE of us truly know why God does what He does, but, He does do it, and, IF we go to Him, He will REVEAL, in 'His due time" His reasons for why He decided to CALL a woman to pastor a church. And, YOU will hear that, phil, when you get to the Bema Seat and are judged by God for NOT salvation but for the things you've done on Earth, both good and bad

Rewards will be properly outlayed to you at that time :)

Hebrew Manuscripts-

nâbâ'

naw-baw'

A primitive root; to {prophesy} that {is} speak (or sing) by inspiration (in prediction or simple discourse ): - prophesy (-ing) make self a prophet.

That is all this word means. To speak. Simple discourse . To disclose or speak about what ? We all should know this. It is to disclose, or speak God's words, contained in His what ? Prophets. What did the prophets do ? They taught God's words.

There is no getting around the fact, that Peter taught women are teachers also, up there when he brought Joel's Prophecy ;about God's words into it, that women also, will teach in the same manner. And we already know from scripture, from Huldah, to Philips four daughters , that women do teach God's words.

Remember it wasn't Peter speaking nor the 12, it was God Himself.

There is no getting around that. Isn't it about time, Christians wise up, and chuck traditions of men ?

Remember what Christ said of that ? Remember what He said to all those Christians teachers here when He returns ? Was He happy with them ?

Quit bashing women,....................
That is a blatant lie.
quit thinking that you're understanding God's will in a woman's life without knowing God's thoughts or mind...................
So you are telling me that John 1:14 is wrong. You are saying Galatians 1:12 is a lie. You call Paul a liar, deny God's word, reject that Christ gave God's word to Paul, and saying I can't understand God in reference to His word?
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.
I'm not listening to anything that I'm not led to believe by Him...................
I suggest you utilize your ignore button when I post, seeing as you detest God's word as much as you do.

You talk down to me much more, a.k.a. 'condescend' ..................
I condescend to you because you are taking up my time with your inane posts. You were given my courtesy when I first came to this board, but you have to earn respect. You must realize you are going the wrong direction for that to occur.
what you think has been 'disrespectful' (which has not, you're just not understanding the Truth correctly, bro) will become even more so discplinary toward you as i'm led to speak
.
You have no authority to "discipline me, nor do you have the knowledge, nor do you have the maturity to assume the position you are trying to. You are reprobate concerning the word, and will never be in a position to usurp authority over me.

Yes, you are bashing specific women when you say they can not be called by God to pastor a church. :(

No, I'm not calling Paul a liar. I am just saying that Paul does not = God. Paul=Paul.
:)

No, I don't put anyone on 'ignore,' you can though, and, no, I don't detest even ONE WORD of God's words. The Lord leads. :)

Your posts are insanely hurtful to women and you choose to, hey, here's a word for you, IGNORE that fact. That's the only thing inane, bro. :(

I've :)been completely respectful of you, you've taken things the wrong way, starting with my nic for you, phil
---------------------==========------------------
I'm not disciplining you, phil, don't be silly. I just said that the Lord 'disciplines His own,' and, you WILL be disciplined for things that you say that hurt others. The verses about tying a 'millstone around one's neck' for doing wrong things to God's children comes to mind. 'Course, that's some discipline. Hey, think of the bright side, at least, you're with Him, just, as I said, the rewards, once you die, will be good and bad. YOU get both from God at the Bema Seat .
I have no desire to speak authority over you nor you me. You should practice what you preach, because telling me I have a long time before ready for 'meat' etc. is your trying to put your opinionated authority over me.

It's amazing how stuffed up one's mind can become, thinking that God can never call a woman to pastor a church just because they think Paul's words are absolute and that God would never do something out of the ordinary that was absolutely for His will being done, like, for example, using a woman to pastor a church that was not getting fruit from a man's leadership. God knows, God cares, God acts. And, as I've told tuck a few times now, He acts above and beyone and OVER your authority of what you think He should do. :)

Remember, we are all one In Christ. So if there is neither male nor female all one in Christ, then would it make sense, when Christ said to go out and spread the gospel for women to be commanded not to teach God's words ever ?

If God says in Genesis, that man and women are one flesh, how can we have one half of the same person silent ? Dose it make sense ? No it wouldn't make much sense..

Galatians 3:28

King James Version (KJV)

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Now, guess who wrote this ? It was Paul.

We have to understand Paul was not teaching women do not teach ever. What was going on in some churches was, a lot of vain babbling , when God's words should have been the center of attention. Paul then gave a lot of instruction in his letters to the Christians there, and women were also the topic naturally as well as men:

and the way they should conduct themselves and the roles they play. But never once did Paul say, well listen to one letter, and form a whole doctrine out of it, without also adding in all of the rest of God's words.

We have to take in all of God's words , that will give us a fuller understanding of what is being taught.

I'm trying to show people , are working into Paul's teachings more, then what scripture even allows for, like vain traditions, of those churches Christ is Not happy with.

Paul said, he was a persecutor of Christians, women also, it didn't matter.

1 Tim 1:

12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

So Paul would know full well the dangers Christian Women, had to face.

Acts 22:4

King James Version (KJV) ( Paul speaking )

4 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

20 And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

When Christian Women, were persecuted at this time, did they all sit down and have a tea party ? No they were persecuted to the death.

Instead of enforcing traditions of men into God;s words, where even all the scriptures of women teaching God's word, past and to come, are read over and explained away, why not just use common sense, and allot all, of God's words to stand. Not what we just want to hear.

Because it makes much more sense in light of the majority of scriptures, that Paul was giving women the ability to opt out. Even though, Christians all one in Christ, are called to spread the gospel.

Mark 16:15-16

King James Version (KJV)

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Yes! When Paul Says women cannot speak...you have to remember this a time when women did not have the same education or rights as men. He was trying to promote unity...not say Women COULD NEVER preach or teach.

God speaks through us...so it is never really US to begin with...lol. It's kind of funny really...a women preacher really first opened up my relationship with God.

We also find several female ministers in the scripture besides Priscilla.

It always serves well to MEDITATE on scripture...to fully comprehend the meaning, and not to have a narrow minded view...

Jesus treated women in a distinctly different way than the society he lived in. The fact that Jesus spoke to women in public was a radical departure from the traditions of his time. No Jewish Rabbi would speak to any woman in public, let alone a samaritan fornicator. Women ministered to Jesus and remained with him while he died on the cross. The first human to see the resurrected Jesus was a woman. Jesus never once says women have a lessor role in his kingdom.

Even Paul (the male chauvinist) said: "For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Galatians 3:27-28

Yes Women can teach and preach to men.

Yes, you are, tuck. You're basing your thoughts on what you THINK is God's will for Anj's life. She has told you she is a pastor . She is a woman, we can gather from her pink name and telling us so. And, so, what do you choose to do? Do you choose to support and realize that God is USING Anj for His glory. Or, do you choose to be a part of the problem, like philly is choosing to do, saying that there IS an absolute and that a woman, in bible times or nowadays, will NEVER be obeying God when they pastor a church over a man.

You choose. Again, the choice is yours, bro. And, I am just speaking what philly said, there is NO disrespect to him and, again, my nic to philly is not disrespecful , it is just my being 'green.' YOu want to not be nicknamed tuck, no problem, philly has not commented like you did just now that he doesn't like his nic. He now knows I nic EVERYONE on c.c.. What's more, I do it out of love, my personality. NOthing more. 100s niced and not anyone, but one, and, I spoke to them, that I was NOT saying a nic to be mean in any way , shape, or form . The Lord leads :)

Thanks is for defending me, Greeny! But Tuck has been on my ignore list practically since he joined. Not just about this issue, but many others. I will leave the judging to God, and do the work he has called me to do! And that is a ministry that God called me to do over 25 years ago, but I first did not obey, because I thought men would get mad at me for preaching and teaching! They still do, of course, but Christ has helped me develop a much thicker skin, and a much better understanding of the Word, so I know that it is better to obey god than men!

And not I am not speaking of the Apostle Paul, but modern day men, obsessed with their own self importance. I do praise God for all the brothers and sisters who have encouraged me to pursue God's calling to ministry in my life.

Yes, we are created equal in God's eyes. I'm sure our loving, kind God, would not object to that. Spiritually enlightment judgement, or what is known as common sense.

There is opnly one way we can allow women to talk in church, it is to GO AGAINST GOD....

Oh but we are used to do that so why not in chirch as well...

If we are ONE IN CHRSIT AND THERE IS NO GENDER, why does men in Christ not bare children? Come on Bible twisters/ sinners.... PREACH your lies and ungodly doctrines...

Appoint Oprah as the head pastor.... haha all Lessies and gays would love that... Man it is just sick how we do not ACCEPT GOD'S WORD as it is given...

The job I had for 25 years one of the sayings there was Know Your Customer. Paul knew his audience and the bible verses you keep listing were for the church Paul was writing to. I do not believe that it was to be as written in stone throughout eternity. Why? Look at the middle east as a whole. They have never treated the women with respect that is due a woman. Back in the time Paul was preaching a lot of the people men and women were not educated. So it was a disruption to the church service if a woman asked a question. As the men and women were probably not seated together. The instruction was for the woman to wait until they got home to ask her husband the question to be silent in the church service.

The world has so changed now people scattered across the globe and we are educated now in the U.S. as well as other countries both men and woman have more opportunities than in bible times. Jesus commissioned the disciples as He was leaving earth to go and preach, teach the gospel and baptize new disciples. God will use any Holy Spirit filled individual regardless of gender, age, race to spread His gospel because God wants everyone to be saved.

If men are the only ones to preach and teach then you guys need to get out of the chat rooms and spread the gospel and quit arguing with women about whether they should preach and teach men about salvation. There is a whole world out there that needs all of us.
Love in Christ.

why are so many christians saying "times have changed" just because it's 2014 and we live in a very politically correct society doesn't mean we need to conform to it, no women were ever part of the priesthood in the temple in times before Jesus so obviously God thought it wasn't necessary and I see no reason to change that. A preacher is probably the only job left in society that can discriminate on gender and I see it's largely a anti-christian feminist agenda trying to change that

women preaching to men is like a reverse of what God intended, I would not stay at a church where there was a woman preacher because it would be obvious she has not read her Bible which shows as every female preacher I have met have been very liberal in their view of how they interpret.

It was one of the curses on eve and all women to desire to rule over her husband(or men in general) in areas they weren't suppose to by God.

this is the kind of reasoning I have a problem with when it comes to the Bible, bringing your own personal feelings into it.

What the Bible says doesn't evolve and change to fit in with the times, this is why there's so much heresy in churches nowdays.

To prophecy means to teach God's words.
Notice how she is the prophet, he is the teacher. Women can be inspired to be prophets, they cannot however lead/teach in the church setting.
