I chose my user name because of everything that I had on my plate at that time in my life: full time job, single parenting, teaching piano, involved in the music ministry at my church. Sometimes, it's like herding cats!

I even joked about it at work - on Tuesdays, I used to work with an autistic young man with all sorts of behavioral issues. He was paired with a wheelchair bound young man with mild retardation and no impulse control. Barring safety concerns, I gave both these gentlemen a "long leash," letting the community correct them if they acted inappropriately. This was harder to do than to be a "control freak" like many in my field, but it was consistent with our organization's philosophy, and, in my opinion, best for the participants, as they learn more when the community calls them on inappropriate behavior than when I do. Anyway, I joked that when I was scheduled to work with these guys, that was my "Cat Herding" day.

I haven't been a part of an online community for a while so I didn't know what name to pick... so I chose a part of a name that I use to use as a kid for online games xD which was DragonRaine. But I cut the dragon part off... lol.

I chose Ageofknowledge because we live in an age of knowledge. When I was growing up there was no Internet. Obtaining data and information was tedious and time consuming. How the times have changed!

AOK, you mean you remember going to the Library? :p

BTW, I totally dig your username, brother.
BananaPie spent most of the 80's going through these catalogues while most of her peers were having fun watching The Dukes of Hazard and Charlie's Angels re-runs, or getting high on Pink Floyd...

LOL YES! I remember being in junior high and high school and having to write papers for class and guess where I would go to research the information: the local public library. That's about all we had back then were public libraries, textbooks, mail order, and old timers who would share information with us.

BananaPie, do you remember when the teachers would let us interview old timers for our papers if they had competency with respect to the paper we were writing and use them as references in our bibliography?

I wonder if that's still as common today with the rise of the Internet. They still allow it I'm sure but I doubt the practice is used by students anywhere near the extent it used to be.

...like tell me about it. My children are like, "Mom, where you alive when there was no internet?"

They are amazed to learn that back then, there was the extraordinary patience to look through the index of the Britannica encyclopedia, find statistics in the Almanac, learn definitions, spelling and punctuations by using an actual dictionary, and kids did logarithms & calculus theorem by hand.

Yeap. I interviewed a physician, a pharmacist and a rep from Farmacia, a Swedish company in regards to a drug (a steroids) sold over the counter in Germany & Central America. Those were the days when you had to be responsible in planning your "teen" free time. :)

Yes, it's still practice in public schools here, but quickly dwindling due to political correctness.

Mine is quite simple, it is the same username I have used for many things; MLS are my initials, and sufan stands for "Syracuse University fan" as I am a huge syracuse orange college basketball fan.

Say, that's pretty neat your initials are MLS; you're not a realtor, are ya? :D

I'm glad I learned what your username means because for a minute there, I thought it read "miss you, Fan #1."

My mom owned a community magazine for a time and allowed me to write for her. Interviewing the elderly was so much fun! They had such stories to share, particularly a couple of WW II POWs.

It's my first name combined with part of my last name. A lot of people think it's "Rachel's edge" but it's not. It definitely sounds cooler that way, though. :)
WHAT? You mean it's Rachel Sedgemulligan or something?? THAT'S what it meant? All this time and all the posts I've read and had..... affinity with really, ached with, sympathized with, and it's Rachel Sedgemulligan?

No. I'm sorry. It. Doesn't. Fit. I think it's Rachel's Edge! It was the Victory Through Christ that gave Rachel her EDGE. It was the very edge that cut that gave Rachel her edge! This was Rachelsedge!

Still wrong. It's a very cleverly hidden Chelse.
