Lake Ray Hubbard?

The trees are because most of the lakes here are man-made. They just dammed up a natural spillway and let it fill in (I know, a waste of trees.) Every 10 years or so, we have a really rainy season that causes the lakes to overflow. But most of the time we have drought, and that water gets so low that people have walked out to pick up their previously sunken fishing boats.
yeah, that's the one.

that doesn't compute for some reason (to me). i've been around a number of man-made lakes without trees growing out of them. the whole thing seems really wonky. and why would they allow them to remain there? it's like a texas thing or something...

it also makes me wonder how many fatalities occur due to compromised boaters running into trees. seriously.

thanks for clearing it up though! : )

Lake Lavonne and several others are just like it. I have heard that the trees are possibly beneficial for the fish or something like that. I think it is just the same short-sighted planning like with the roads expansions that are outgrown before they are even finished being built.

When my dad put in the 20-acre lake (pond?) behind his house, he had the trees harvested first and used the profits to put in the dam.

sounds like you're a chip off the old block. : )

actually, there are a lot of things that i find interesting about tx. when i was working at TI, there were 5 bubbas in my dept. i remember reading the dept. roster, and thinking, "ok, so these are young guys, because they go by a nickname?" or maybe that's just how i worked it out in my head. i guess i wasn't prepared for 5 middle aged white guys who answer to bubba.

that said, tx is a pleasantly extroverted state. with plenty of rodeos. : )

Thanks! My dad is pretty awesome.

That's so funny because my dad is an international business consultant who was nicknamed "Bubba" by his colleagues.

Also, X was working at Kilby Center at TI when we got married in 2000. Weird, huh?

your dad sounds awesome! i mean no bubba disrespect. it's just not a name i'd ever been around before, so i wasn't sure what to expect. i was a little surprised.

yeah, i'd left by then, but i was still consulting for them at that time. i was in technical marketing (for one of the product lines).

good memories, really.

You need to come back to visit. I think we'd get along great.

It has just dawned on me that I have completely derailed this engaging thread. I apologize, Jullianna. The conversation about burgers was riveting!

You know what else that burger is missing?

A big old portabella mushroom on top of that beef patty, between the cheese and the lettuce and tomato. That's how we do things around here when we want to make the burger fancier.

Holy Cow. You know you sometimes you accidentally glance at something you know you shouldn't have (like an especially good cookbook!) because it's going to compromise your thought life??!!! (As in, I'm thinking of how long it would take me to try each and every one of those babies in delicious succession....)

Yeah, it's like that.

Now I'm going to have to go back to the "Confessions" thread...

Forgive me, for I am... contemplating how many milkshakes I'm gonna need to get me through all those tasty bites.

How about cheese injected into the hamburger patty or this burger always works for me.
