Can I ask those who drink beer--since I am sure you drink it for the taste--why not non-alcoholic beverages?
Some people can get intoxicated on one glass. An alcoholic cant have any, if they have even one they wont be able to stop. Alcohol does nothing good.
when i was only about 15, i was diagnosed with "weak kidneys" and the doctor told my parents that i should drink a beer or a little wine now and again, because a little bit of alcohol is actually good for your kidneys.
(don't believe it? check this link from webMD -- Drink to Your Kidneys' Health? )
a non-alcoholic beverage wouldn't have the same medicinal effect.
maybe it's just my cultural heritage, but beer and/or wine in small amounts have always been a part of dinner in my family.
Romans 14:20-21 (KJV) [SUP]20 [/SUP]For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. [SUP]21 [/SUP]It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
Many believe offending your brother to cause him to stumble is sinful(it is), but will do it anyway. Look how many have been offended just by talking about this. I wonder how many more will be offended when they see you do it?
Before someone says nobody's offended with this thread, let me tell you I am.
Mark 9:42 (KJV) [SUP]42 [/SUP]And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
The problem is not the Bible but, your interpretation of it.All I did was post scriptures in context...you either agree they are inspired of God and acceptable boundaries that have been given by God or you REJECT the truth in favor of a personal opinion about (drinking) a glass of wine or a strong drink---->BE NOT DRUNK IN EXCESS<------study these words carefully and in context with the OP!
yep.
And I do not drink around people who it would offend. or known alcoholics, (even if others are drinking)
but that does not mean I would refuse or judge a person who is drinking, in fact it could offend them.
so. it is a sin to offend by drinking around someone who would be offended, but is not a sin to judge or offend someone who thinks it is ok to drink.
talk about a double standard!
Proverbs 20:1 KJV
(1) Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
1 Timothy 5:23 KJV
(23) Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.
Would Paul give advice that goes against scripture?
Isaiah 65:8 KJV
(8) Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.
Paul would not have taught anything against scripture. According to these texts new wine is OK, fermented wine is not.
Matthew 5:17 KJV
(17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Would Jesus have contradicted Himself and gone against His own teaching by making alcohol? To be true to scripture then the Bible teaches against drinking alcohol. The Bible is interpreted by the Bible not our opinion.
The problem is not the Bible but, your interpretation of it.
Maybe you think He will have a drink ready for you? What ever dude...I will gladly wait till the day of judgment to see what Jesus has to say about this! No Problem HERE as I can see and read!
I prefer to follow Jesus, as he didn't drink either. The quantity of wine Jesus made was between 491 and 737 litres. If the wine was alcoholic then Jesus would have been making sure they were well and truly ‘plastered’ and was a participant in their sin! A serious charge particularly in light of Habakkuk 2:16 where we read: “Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!”
For Jesus to have made alcoholic wine, He would have sinned, and hence He could not have been the Saviour of the world. The Pharisees, who were desperate to bring some charge against Jesus would surely have made mention of this wrong if it had been committed.
Jesus’ appearance at the wedding feast was to show divine approval for the union of a man and woman in marriage. The wine He made was non-alcoholic; made so that the guests could continue to enjoy the wedding celebrations, and not to have it disintegrate into a drunken orgy.
For those who want to ignore the warnings of God on the use of alcohol, the miracle of the water into wine provides no scriptural justification for their cause. Let us be content to remain sober, that we may best serve God and be a good example to our fellow man.
Maybe you think He will have a drink ready for you?
So far your examples are related to state of being drunk. You should know how to differentiate between drinking and drunkeness.
Do you know that in the OT tithes were not cash and if you are too far. The tithes should be coverted to cash for you to be able to carry it then convert it back again into goods. And part of it as God commanded was wine and strong drink.
[Deu 14:26] ISV You may spend the money to your heart’s content to buy livestock, flocks, wine, strong drink, and whatever you desire. You and your household may eat there and rejoice in the presence of the Lord your God.”
you don't say "how strange it is that you've saved the best for last"
when you start serving unfermented grape juice to people who have been drinking wine all day (if not for many days).
you say "how strange it is that you've saved the best for last"
when you bring out the best, highest proof wine to serve to people whose palates are already numbed by much drinking.
there is no need to go into lexicographical study here -- the Word gives enough information as it is in plain speech.
Jesus at Cana turned water into better wine than what had been served already at the wedding. "better wine" does not equate with "weaker." no person in their right mind would taste a bunch of merlots, sangrias and chardonnays, savor them, then have a glass of watered down grape kool-aid and say "my but you've saved the best for last"
they would say "this isn't wine at all."
I guess my point is this: I would never, ever push anyone to have a drink. so why can't my brothers and sisters in Christ who chose to 100% abstain or have had problems in the past and now are free of addiction simply not let those of us who chose moderation have our freedom of choice and not try to make us out as sinners because we do not do this their way.
yet another person who twists scripture. and wants to judge people based on their twisted view, and legalistic ways, and not according to the true written word of God.
So Noah was the only one that knew how to make wine? I doubt that...
The problem is not the Bible but, your interpretation of it.
I never drink when I'm reading the Scriptures...![]()
