Meh I might have a problem if the woman like to play dress up in public, kinda a bit embarassing I'd say. However in private, I must confess I would find it quite charming that a girl like to dress up. Not something I'd really be to keen on doing myself, I'm not a big clothes type guy, but I would like that with a woman if she were like this case. Though it's not like a requirement or anything, but merely if the girl liked to say dress up in lovely gown like Sleeping Beauty or some sorta thing like that I'd find that to be charming. So thus I voted Charming in the poll.

As far as rustic mannerisms and quirky antiquated speech, well that I clearly enjoy myself all ready, lol so I personally be fine with that.

Also to address what Jesus and even what his mighty army will be wearing when the end of times approaches and he returns that is actually no mystery and is all ready written awesomely enough. Just check out Revelation 19.

When he returns, the entire world will know, as far as the dating thing..for me it would all depend on her inner spirit, If she is angelic and carrying, it wouldn't matter..personally I would never WANT to change her.

I voted and I would accept that person for who she is however, as I said in my profile.. about the tattoos and the piercings.. they are turn-offs for me however, I am kind of stuck on complication though because I met someone on here who has tats and she is very nice and really mature than her age.

There are some styles I can accept but punk, no. Ren or period age clothings are fine. I have worn them. I have ren/colonial style shirt with strings on it.. The other I wear all the time are guyabera shirts, hawaiian shirts, cubavera shirts, and 1950's retro shirts. In fact, I have REAL 1950's shirt and REAL 1930's fedora hat. The fedora was given to me by an old Deaf man. Nice guy. He was giving away things.

So, thats me! I dress differently.

Yes, Jesus would appear differently because I am sure he will be still wearing that tunic when he returns. It said in the Book of Revelation what he wears!! Look it up! I am not saying what verse.

You will know the difference between Jesus and the anti-christ who wears suits and the false prophect wears religious robe on. To know what that means, look it up in Revelation 17 and 18.. What colors does the woman wore?

I have dated women and married my ex who wore most of the time in jeans and sneakers and shirt. I only dated one time to a woman who is a professional big name singer who wore in mini skirt, high heels, and nice loosely shirt out to dinner to Red Lobster one time. And sorry no I am not saying her name. LOL. She only gave me her real name at the time.

Sure, I like a woman to dress like a model but I would not change her. I am used to women dressed in just jeans and shirts and sneakers.

Now, this is kind of table turned around.. the ladies I dated and even my ex wife dressed in jeans.. well, many churches would say that is not in proper style. Some churches such as Strict Baptists, Mennonites, Amish, Mormons, and JWs would say that is wrong to dress for the ladies.

Look, Mennonites and Amish as well as FLDS would still have women dress in 19th Century period clothing and hairstyles yet, they believe in God in their interpretations. Other non-Christian faiths such as Muslims and perhaps Orthodox Jews have strict clothing rules such as covering for the women in Muslim religion, etc.

Yes clothing can make you labelled what faith or religion you are. However, in an atheist world, they will think you are nuts. Also they will think it is alright for punks, people having tats, things appears so "unnatural".

Here is another interesting stuff.. I am going to cross over to explain another thing that was not in discussion here. Interracial. I have dated women of many different races. Caucasians, a Polyasian (Brit-Japanese), a Native-Mexican American, latinas (in Central America when I was on missions) and one from up here in CNY, a few blacks including 2 African-Americans and a Caribbean-American (darkest of all 3 I dated)...And they may dress a little different.

Now, I can not change their skin either. Because of that, I can not change the lady I am dating with. She is who she is, period. If she is going to be like that model, wow, thats a blessing. But if she is going to be that girl in glasses, a geek/nerd, a la, Dr. Amy Fowler (I think that is how you say her name on The Big Bang Theory tv show), that is fine.

You see, I am somewhat like Dr. Sheldon Cooper but I am me, Mark, period. I do talk different, and can make it difficult for people on how I talk about things, not about my speech. I talk well and yet, I am Deaf.

Only thing the right woman who is Hearing needs to set herself the same as I am by learning American Sign Language. That is only difference.

Now, you can see how I talk here?? I am different.

I think a good example of what I am referring to is the Main Character from Sleepy Hallow, Ichabod Crane awakes after 250 years ... and refuses to update his clothing
When I first read this thread, the first thing that came to my mind was the movie Kate and Leopold. But I do believe both these examples are different because these people really are from those times. If it was someone who was from and in our time, and dressed like they were from a different time, I would want to know their motives. Why do they dress this way? Are they trying to get attention? How long have they been doing this? Also, another important one for me is, is this who they really are, or are they trying to be someone else (i.e. trying to actualize their lives through a character)?

One of the things I found most interesting about this topic ...

if everything else were in order-- kindness, Christianity, etc...

The only thing that could/would be a deal breaker hinged the way they dressed. I don't know if that was missed by most people when they initially looked at this topic.

I meant "caring" not "carrying" maybe if she carried a wooden sword around like Joan of Arc, wanting to chop me I'd have a problem..all in fun I suppose?

It shouldn't be, Christians should strive to look at people like God looks at people, from the inside out. Don't judge a book by it's cover. However, people should also be aware that like a book cover, the way they dress and groom can have some impact on how people perceive them. People will sometimes even get a different wrong idea then what the person is going for.

A book cover has the title, author, sometimes pictures, maybe even a synopsis. So if I am looking for a sci-fi book, and the book I pick up says Dictionary, I probably won't read it at that time. However the title doesn't really tell me what the book is about, just gives a small idea.

People don't normally dress in clothes from a bygone era (Excluding the last 50 years), so if I did see someone dress like that, and it is not a reenactment, the first question I would ask is why? It could be a weird reason, or it could be an amazing reason. You really won't know until you 'read' the book, or at least the first few chapters (I have put a few books down because in the first few chapters there was something that caused disinterest).

I guess it depends on what kind of attire we're talking...some earlier time clothing if we were going out for a quiet night out, I wouldn't mind...in fact it might be considered entertaining. But really silly/weird stuff, well I just don't see it lol. Unless it's a costume party or the like. But hey, to each their own. If they are happy, so am I.

Being eccentric and being out of step with reality are two different things. I can and probably will end up marrying an eccentric. I would not even consider dating someone for whom reenacting the past is more than a strong interest or a hobby.

That sums it up for me. I find eccentricity rather charming. Being "over the top" for attention would not be charming. Being out of touch with reality might be cause for concern. I think it would be fun to dress up and do something crazy once in a while. Wouldn't want to live that way everyday though.

Lot of concern about people "awkwardly stuck in another time."

What if I'm awkwardly stuck in THIS time?

What I mean by this is:

Would you date someone that dresses in .... clothing from another time... like re-enactment middle ages, Renaissance... or other time period.

I'm talking about someone that goes about everyday never stepping out of character... speech, behavior, and mannerisms are of that time era.

Would it be charming or annoying or embarrassing?

Going to court over a parking ticket, going to dinner, shopping at the grocery store (walmart doesn't count), going to family functions, going to work ...

Obviously, the person WILL stand out amongst today's backdrop. How would you feel about that... if everything else were in order-- kindness, Christianity, etc...

Would you try to change the person or would you endure it and possibly also start dressing out of this time.
Hmm... I suppose the fulcrum would be whether or not it was a facade. If the person was that way because they chose to be as an attempt of being 'true to who they are', then despite the difficulties, it may be fun to be with someone like that.

However, in most cases, if it were some sort of 'act' (or as I said, facade) to hide something, or gain attention, or et al. etc... It would get very old, annoying, upsetting, painful, and abrasive quickly. I'm the type of person who can empathize on a metaphysical level (feel the emotions of other people), has a deep desire for authenticity and reality, and despises lies and acts due to past hurts, so someone who was like that in any other way than honesty would literally sicken me every day.

I would be really concerned about his mental state. Now, if I knew that he was flat out legitly crazy and really liked him anyway... I might go for it.

In general though, no, although you might catch us in costume at the odd Renaissance Faire, or perhaps ComiCon.

Still an interesting topic to discuss. I don't get what the big deal is about old threads, unless they are super controversial or something.
