I have to differ with you there, you may not, but the people around you may be placing their faith in what they are doing. The fact is that by keeping this Hebrew feast and traditions and so. whether you realize it or not is ineffect saying the cross is not enough, I have to do this or that. Yes we try and pray but it is the Holy Spirit that operates in us through the means of the cross and not what we do. If you want to be closer to God than you are now ask Him for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and keep asking. Jesus said that if we being evil if our kid ask for a fish will you give him a stone? How much more will the Father give the Holy Spirit to those that ask.

I agree with this. Those who claim they must walk thru life following Jewish traditions are in essence, rejecting the work Christ did on the cross. The cross is the single most important event in all of history of everything. It literally imputes righteousness to us. We have no need to sacrifice a single animal or accept vain Jewish traditions. Instead we walk by faith and accept God's grace.

My interest in Hebrew culture is simple- Jesus was Hebrew. The Old Testament is full of shadows and types of Him. The Feasts all celebrate Him. The Psalms prophesy Him. Isaiah describes His crucifixation. The cemonial laws were an encumbrance but Yeshua fulfilled them because we couldn't. I'm learning the Hebrew Alef-Bet and still enjoy a BLT so I don't see any conflict there. It's part of liberty in Messiah.

Have you been living in a cave somewhere? Jews have rejected Christ since day one. They are not the children of Abraham, they never were. They are not the sheep, they are the goats, they are not the wheat, they are the tares. They do not fulfill any of the prophecies with the people Israel. They returned to the land where God said He would make desolate and full of abominations. He was to give Israel A NEW JERUSALEM with a great sea on the west and a great sea on the east. There were 13 tribes of Israel and there were 13 colonies and later 13 states. Coincidence, or new Jerusalem?
Isaiah 62:5 (NASB)
[SUP]5 [/SUP] For as a young man marries a virgin, So your sons will marry you;
And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, So your God will rejoice over you.

Psalm 105:6-9 (NKJV)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!
[SUP]7 [/SUP] He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth.
[SUP]8 [/SUP] He remembers His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,
[SUP]9 [/SUP] The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac,

Acts 13:26 (NIV)
[SUP]26 [/SUP] "Brothers, children of Abraham, and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.

Genesis 17:5-9 (ASV)
[SUP]5 [/SUP] Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for the father of a multitude of nations have I made thee.
[SUP]6 [/SUP] And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
[SUP]7 [/SUP] And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee.
[SUP]8 [/SUP] And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
[SUP]9 [/SUP] And God said unto Abraham, And as for thee, thou shalt keep my covenant, thou, and thy seed after thee throughout their generations.

1 Chronicles 16:14-18 (ESV)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
[SUP]15 [/SUP] Remember his covenant forever, the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations,
[SUP]16 [/SUP] the covenant that he made with Abraham, his sworn promise to Isaac,
[SUP]17 [/SUP] which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
[SUP]18 [/SUP] saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan, as your portion for an inheritance.”

Sometimes partial knowledge can be a very dangerous thing.

My faith is of course in Jesus, observation of ceremonial law or "trying" to obey the ten commandments are fruitless self effort.

Abraham was not a Jew. Many people are shocked by this but it is the truth, He was a Chaldean a gentile and so was Issac and Jacob. Prove it wrong. The Jews refer to the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. Yet none of them were Hebrews nor Jews. So go figure.

The fact that he was not considered a Jew is correct do to the term Jew with is short for Judah was not termed tell generations later. However he was Hebrew as told in Genesis 14:13..... " Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew "

I guess you must be shocked, Kerry, that most all Christian people know that God chose Abraham from among the gentiles, they know the purpose he was chosen and why God did that. You would be amazed at the story of this family.

Okay, so He was a gentile that converted, I could have mistaken it don't happen often but at times it does. Anyway, I was thinking of Archaeology and they didn't find the term Hebrew until around the time of David. So Abraham was called a Hebrew, but not a Jew and not under law but Grace as His faith was accounted unto Him as righteousness and not what he did. He did because of His faith and not vice versa.

If you have faith in Jesus you trust all He says and where he leads, for that trust is the faith. Through that trust you would learn what law does and does not do, what it is for and isn't for, who it was written for. It would mean faith in the Father, too, for Jesus and the Father is one. You could learn without fear of ceremonial law, for Christ Father gave it, and you could learn how Christ replaced it.

Our creator is wonderful, the more you trust and know Him and the Son as one the more you worship Him.

So the Hebrew roots go back to a gentile pagan Idol maker who was saved by the grace of God.

The Ten Commandments STILL SERVE THEIR ORIGINAL PURPOSE.

Matthew 5:18-19 (ASV)
[SUP]18 [/SUP] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.
[SUP]19 [/SUP] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

So MAYBE most people STILL have the wrong idea about what the original purpose of the the Ten Commandments was.

Their purpose WAS NEVER to create a system of Laws and standards of GOD, that man could live up to and make himself righteous in the sight of GOD.

THEIR PURPOSE WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE, (AS LONG AS EARTH AND THE ATMOSPHERE AROUND IT EXISTS), TO MAKE US AWARE OF HOW UTTERLY SINFUL WE ARE, AND HOW DESPERATELY WE NEED A MESSIAH.

Oh, so you think you are not an UTTERLY SINFUL human being, or that you are better than the worst mass murderer on Death Row. THINK AGAIN!

James 2:10 (NIV)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

Understand now why we STILL NEED THE TEN COMMANDMENTS? If we do not have them to constantly remind us how incredibly far short of GOD's Standards we actually fall, we start thinking we are better than we actually are, and stop crying out for our MESSIAH, and forget to be THANKFUL for the SALVATION HE PROVIDED ON THE CROSS.

I have not heard of such a movement. I do not know what they teach or how they teach it. I would like to evaluate it, if I knew more about it.
Here's a good place to start, an introductory article on a site with lots of resources to help you sort it out:

Hebrew Roots Movement – Salesmanship 101

May I make a suggestion? If you are not affected by this or other Law-keeping sects, just enjoy the peace! If a Law-keeping sect has crossed your path, however, the site on which that article appears was designed with the purpose of helping believers sort out issues of Law and Grace. There are lots of good teaching resources available, with the goal being to equip and mature the believer about who they are in Christ - for when one knows who they are in Christ, and established in the Work of Christ and all that that means, they are less susceptible to false teaching when it crosses their path.

Abraham was the first hebrew, meaning he who crossed over...

Genesis 14:13, "Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and of Aner. These were allies of Abram."

We need to know our Scriptures...

And for the most part, I agree with you Kerry. But the distinction needs to be made (and sadly isn't made enough) as to why people are wearing shawls, eating kosher, or going to church on the Sabbath, etc. If people are doing them to improve their salvation they're wrong. But there is nothing wrong with doing any of those things in the Torah in response to gracious salvation.

It's been my experience that those in the Hebrew Roots Movement come to believe that they must keep Law not to get saved, but to stay saved - to remain 'in covenant' with God. What they don't understand is that the New Covenant is entered into by faith - and maintained by Christ, not by us. We are commanded to believe and love - and love is the Fruit of believing. Grace is truly amazing!

Do you hold the doctrine of Messiah? Or do you speak in opposition to it?

I can show you many verses where Messiah Yahshua says to keep the law of Yahweh...can you show me a single one where He says not to?

The very nature of His High Priesthood excludes the Laws given at Sinai.

He is of the Tribe of Judah.

The Priesthood of the Sinaitic Code is of the Tribe of Levi.

Christ does not, and CANNOT preside over the OLD Covenant - that is by Providential DESIGN.

Christ is the Mediator of the NEW Covenant, not the Old Covenant, not a 're-newed' or 're-hashed' covenant, but THE NEW Covenant.

Back to the Law/Torah/Commandments of God:

What exactly are those after the Cross?

Believe on the One He sent and love one another.

That's Torah after the Cross. That's the New Covenant.

Simple. That's Grace. That's the Gospel.

So no you can not find a verse that says not to keep the Law of Yahweh from Messiah?

Luke 16:17, "But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one yodh of the Law to fail."

Mattithyah 5:19, "Whosoever, therefore, will break one of the least of these Laws, and will teach men so, he will be called the least in the Kingdom of Yahweh; but whosoever will do and teach them, the same will be called great in the Kingdom of Yahweh."

Mattithyah 22:37-40, "Yahshua said to him: You must love Yahweh your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

Romans 13:9, "For the commandments: You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not bring false testimony, You shall not covet, and all other commandments are briefly summed up in these Laws; namely: You must love your neighbor as yourself."

Mattithyah 19-17-21, "But He said to him: Why do you question Me about righteousness? There is only One Who is the standard of perfection, and that is Yahweh; so if you would enter into life, keep the Laws of Yahweh. He then asked Yahshua; Which ones? Yahshua said: You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false testimony. Honor your father and mother, and; You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The young man said to Him; All these things I have kept from my youth up; what do I yet lack? Yahshua said to him: If you want to come to the perfection of Yahweh, go and sell of what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and you will be walking in Yahweh's ways, and following Me."

Revelation 14:12, "In this manner are the saints purified--by keeping the Laws of Yahweh, (in conformity) with the faith in Yahshua Messiah."
