Exodus 20:[SUP]8 [/SUP]Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
[SUP]10 [/SUP]But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

[SUP]11 [/SUP]For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

(a commandment) don't we all agree?

Mark 6:
[SUP]2 [/SUP]And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

Jesus keeping the Sabbath not sunday.

To be a Christian mean to be a follower of Jesus Christ so why are so many Christians avoiding this one simple thing. Sunday worship did not come from Christ.

John 5:
[SUP]46 [/SUP]For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me.
[SUP]47 [/SUP]But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

My own understanding is that the sabbath was meant for us, not for the Lord. We need a day's rest, and if we have to work on the your sabbath, then we find another day in the week to get our rest.

Maybe I should add to my last post that I do believe we need a day of rest each week. Or if we can't get a full day of rest, then we need two half days, or four quarter days.

That's one of the way out for slaves but some has the freedom choose not to.

I don't think the Lord is looking to condemn us on technicalities. He just wants us to learn to love him with all our hearts, minds, and souls, and love our neighbors as ourselves. Part of that, I believe, is recognizing we need a day of rest each week. Otherwise we are too tired to do his will.

I withdraw my like :) from your last post then :( because in effect you are saying one can rest 1/7 everyday without taking a day off or work non-stop for a year and take 52 days off. That I don't agree :)

Sometimes I cannot get my rest on my sabbath because I have responsibilities that require I work. So what do I do? What I do is this: For the next two days, I require myself to come home and rest after I get off work. What else can I do?

Physically, what you're proposing is just fine. But the point of the Sabbath wasn't just about a physical day off. It was a sign to Israel and other that they were set apart, and that day was set apart from all others. The true Sabbath doesn't occur on any random day out of 7. The Sabbath is a specific day.

Now, if your job requires you to work on the Sabbath, work on the Sabbath.
Who gave you your job? God.
Who gave the instruction to obey the Sabbath? God.

If you're required to work on the Sabbath, He is aware of it. Work that day as unto God. Recognize that it's the Sabbath and it's still set apart. The priests did double duty on the Sabbath, and did twice as many offerings. They "worked" harder than just about anyone on the Sabbath. The thing was though, they were serving God even while working.

So if you're require to work on the 7th day, work as unto God and approach it as a set apart time to minister to Him and others. And if the Sabbath truly is on your heart, keep praying for the day where He will give you Sabbath off.

Yeah for sure I'll take two days thanks, no make that 3 :)
But isn't this thread about which day is the right day? And if you have that day wring your not a true follower of Christ? According to the thread title which I hate.

I do not agree with you interpretation of the purpose of the sabbath. Here is what I believe:

[27] And he said to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath;
[28] so the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath." Mark 2:27-28 RSV

I believe Jesus was God in flesh, but I believe this is the answer you are looking for:

[8] "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
[9] Six days you shall labor, and do all your work;
[10] but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your manservant, or your maidservant, or your cattle, or the sojourner who is within your gates;

Right, and while there certainly is a blessing for the person keeping the Sabbath, it is a Sabbath to the Lord.

Genesis 2:3 "So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation."

Deuteronomy 5:12-15 "
‘Observe the sabbath day to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. 13‘Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant or your ox or your donkey or any of your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you, so that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15‘You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to observe the sabbath day."

Exodus 31:17 "
“It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed.”

Did God really rest, the heaviest work days for the priest and the levites was the Sabbath day. Six days your were to work and then one day you were to acknowledge God. The law was laborious and heavy. Going to church in the OT was like going to a slaughter house. It did nothing for the sin problem it only brought to the surface the sin nature. Because, no one was ever able to keep it. Jesus is the only one who kept the law perfectly and will be the only one. So if we place our faith in Him and what He did at the cross, we have true rest. Rest from the power of sin.

If you feel the need to esteem a day, then do it. But do not place your faith in it. Because it will quickly and I meant very quickly turn into self righteousness, which God will not honor and will get you into a mess. For instance, look at them heathen going fishing on the Sabbath day, when I am at church honoring God, Lord thank you for making me better than them. When that so called heathen is saved and filled with the Holy Ghost and preaches in prisons and rehab centers and has lead thousands to Christ.

Honor the day if you want to, but keep your faith in the work of the cross.

The Sabbath is not for Christians.

The Sabbath was given to Israel as a Sign (Ezek. 20:11-20).

Also; Christians back in the first century met on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7 & 1 Cor. 16:2).

With that logic you can not be part of the new covenant because that was given also to Israel:

Heb 8:9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Yet we know that Gentiles are also able to be saved under the new covenant. which can only mean that a saved gentile becomes Israel.

notice what Paul says:

Eph 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

notice they were gentiles in times past. thus they are not any more. what are they then and how?

Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Jesus brings them close and now they are not aliens but citizens of Israel. Thus they are Israel. and the promise of the covenants belong to Israel.

As concerning the Sabbath it is prophesied in the Old testament that the gentiles who keep the Sabbath will be welcome in Gods house.

Isa 56:1 Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.
Isa 56:2 Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
Isa 56:3 Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.
Isa 56:4 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
Isa 56:5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
Isa 56:6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
Isa 56:7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
Isa 56:8 The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.

Gentiles were strangers as Paul said in Ephesians above. and here we are told that the stranger who keeps the Sabbath will be accepted by God. and in verse 8 it is clear that this truth relates to the time when God would "gather others to him".

We just read in Ephesians that it was after Jesus came that the gentile/strangers are brought close and made citizens of Israel.

So yes the Sabbath is a sign for Israel but all who follow God are Israel.

remember the new covenant is with Israel:

Heb 8:7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
Heb 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Gal 6:16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

here Paul speaks of the gentiles/uncircumcised and the Jews/circumcision but says what really matters is the new creature. which he calls "the Israel of God" he can not be merely speaking of the Jews as context clearly shows otherwise.

1Co 10:18 Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

IF there is only one Israel then why stipulate "after the flesh" which means Jews. as we have seen Israel is not just Jews.

Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

The gentiles come into Israel thus all Israel will be saved. Read context all Israel includes the gentiles who are now through Christ Israel.

Rom 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
Rom 9:7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Rom 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

notice it is the same on the other side, not everyone who is Israel by birth is actually Israel but rather those of the promise. Are you of the promise? then you are Israel. as Paul Said in Ephesians, We are brought into citizenship with Israel we who are of the promise in Jesus are Israel.

So as it can be clearly seen those who believe and obey Jesus are Israel and heirs of the promise through Abraham. and the Sabbath is a sign for Israel and Isaiah said that when God brings in the stranger that they should keep His Sabbath.

blessings.

Honor the day if you want to, but keep your faith in the work of the cross.

A slight twist on your statement...

Honor the day because God asked you to and you want to honor Him,

But keep your faith in His life, death and resurrection for your salvation. It is found in nothing else.

No. As Jesus says, we were not made for the sabbath. The sabbath was made for us. We need a day of rest each week, so get a day of rest. The Lord did not create a bunch of hoops for us to jump through. There is a purpose for each commandment.

Have we not read that the gentiles having not the law, did by NATURE that which was contained in the law becoming a law unto themselves? How did they obey the sabbath commandment? Please wake up. This is not about going to any building on any day.

If that is your interpretation and opinion of those verses, you are certainly welcome to them.

Hello All,

I used to be a Seventh Day Sabbath keeper from about 1985 to 1997. I attended a church at the time called Worldwide Church of God which taught it was required of Christians.

The whole issue can be reduced significantly to this question: are Christians under the Old Covenant, or the New Covenant? The Old Covenant was made between God and the ancient nation of Israel. The New Covenant is with the Christian and God.

Colossians 2:16, written to Gentiles, says the following:

Colossians 2:16-17[SUP]16 [/SUP]Therefore do not let anyone judge you with respect to food or drink, or in the matter of a feast, new moon, or Sabbath days— [SUP]17 [/SUP]these are only the shadow of the things to come, but the reality is Christ!

Why worship the shadow if you have the reality, which is Christ? The Sabbath was symbolic of the spiritual rest Christians enjoy in Jesus Christ.

Regards,

Robert
