Yes, it is okay for a Christian to drink fermented drinks. There is a thread on this topic as to whether or not Jesus created wine out of water or was the wine really grape juice that He created at the wedding at Cana. There are currently there are over 3000 replies. I found this thread to be an endless source of amusement.
I have this dilemma because in my country, or at least in Christian community here, it is a big deal. so, i only drink with foreigner friends. even though they are unbelievers, they dont mind.

I find that thread to be both terribly sad and disturbingly hilarious.
I believe Christians may drink in moderation but that some should avoid drink altogether, for various reasons.

We are to be wise....can't be wise if you are drunk. I have yet to meet a wise drunk anyway. Usually it goes drink...drink...detach brain...get drunk...act stupid.

It's alright in moderation. As long as you don't get smashed, hammered, sloshed, wasted, blitzed, bombed, lit up, loaded, pickled, pie-eyed, plastered, zonked, tanked,and or wrecked.

I totally agree with you, you can't be wise when your drunk. If your born again the holy spirit lives in you and he will guid your steps

Here is a thought about excess alcohol consumption that I would like CCers to consider, although it is not directly based on what scripture tells us about alcohol, except to not be drunk.
Here is the thought to consider: When we adjust our minds so that they are dulled by alcohol, we are allowing demon thoughts to influence us because we lose the control we give the Lord to guide our life.
I have talked with an ex alcoholic who was cured by the Lord when one day he learned of Christ and who Christ was to him, so he gave over control of his life to Christ in one sudden moment. He thought and acted as a person who had never been an alcoholic. I met another who could live without alcohol any more through secular counseling, and that person still thought of himself as an alcoholic, and retained many of the characteristics of alcoholism, such as not telling the truth and feeling paranoia.
Personally, I think there is truth in this thought about it letting demons into our minds.

Ya know, I had my wisdom teeth taken out years back, & after waking up & going home I decided I was "sober" enough to go to a minister's meeting over 35 miles away. Problem was, I was so messed up I couldn't remember driving my car there! So... how do we individually know when we've had enough? I could've been jailed for what I did....but nobody could tell me otherwise.
I know that. but they are my cousins. They don't drink to get drunk. just a social drinking.

I don't know, maybe listen in Health class during the Drugs and Alcohol lessons in high school? Be responsible. I've never had any issues with alcohol. I prefer food. It's not difficult to drink in moderation, not difficult at all.

Big difference between having a drink and drunkenness. Drunkenness does you absolutely no good. Can't be sober and vigilant when your wasted. I know me personally, my normal ability to resist temptation may as well not even exist if I allow myself to indulge in hard liquor.
That's just it.... you know your preferences, but who can begin to guess the preferences of others? How strong is the resistance of someone born to an alcoholic mother? Generations of alcoholism suggest that just like heroin, a child can be born an addict to alcohol. I wouldn't want to run around in life knowing I was the one who gave such a person his first drink, would you?
You may think I'm just trying to manipulate this issue, but we all know we have no way of knowing the odds of actually doing such a thing. Are our private beliefs so important that we can risk gambling with other people's lives? Just like Jesus, shouldn's our thoughts & concerns be about "others"?
