I agree. Obviously they had not eaten of the tree of life yet. God separated them from it before they ate, after sinning. Genesis 3:22-23 (KJV)
[SUP]22 [/SUP] And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil....
I have never truly grasped, I don't think, what the passage means by "... the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil...." Precisely, what was the knowledge that Adam and Eve gained that God did not want them to possess. Can you tell me how humanity would be different today if this forbidden knowledge had not be acquired.

I believe is refering to our choices everyday, meaning we choose to either obey God(Not eat the fruit) or give into sin(eating the fruit) in every day situations like lying and such

Good thought Blain - you made me think outside the box.

Do these rivers still exist today ?

If they do what and where is there source of water ?

Genesis 2:10-14King James Version (KJV)

10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

These rivers disappeared and were destroyed when the landscape was totally transformed by God, who decided to destroy all life on earth and permanently change the earth by covering the whole world in water, which raised water tables, created huge mountains and deep trenches on the seafloor. This was also doing away with human longevity of 800+ year life span and ability for mega creatures, what we call dinosaurs, to survive.

Why were these two trees not put on the other side of the world in an area so remote we still wouldn't have found them? The other option was to put them on an uninhabited world in another star system; but no, they were put in the middle of the garden in plain sight. Does this not seem odd to you? Why set Adam and Eve up for failure that way?

I don't think they were set up for failure Cycel, they were instructed not to eat of the fruit of this tree as a test of loyalty at which they did fail. But the tree wasn't put there for their failure it was put there to teach them to obey.

Same things we have problems with today. Today if you will hear His voice harden not your heart but turn and live..... We fight against the call to learn to Love God and to trust and obey. God never sets us up for failure He has made a plain path back to Him for us to succeed we just have to choose the right path as back in the garden they had to choose the right tree.

Good thought Blain - you made me think outside the box.
What box are you now thinking outside of?

"... the man is become as one of us..." (God).

"... meaning we choose to either obey God(Not eat the fruit) or give into sin(eating the fruit) in every day situations like lying and such" (Blain).

So, if Blain is right then God also makes daily choices about obeying or sinning? To whom must God be obedient? No, sorry, that doesn't sit well with me. I don't think Blain has it right. This is not just about making choices. God's response to Adam after he consumed the forbidden fruit was to say, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?" In other words Adam has done something that has changed the way he perceives the world. You might say a paradigm shift has taken place in the minds of both Adam and Eve. They are changed beings. They now perceive the world as God himself does.

"See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever" – therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden... (NOAB).

God ejected Adam and Eve from paradise not for disobeying, but out of concern that they might disobey again, eat from the other tree, and gain immortality. Then they would both truly be like gods, like “one of us”. God took the action he did to prevent humanity from becoming a race of immortal beings.

Your analysis is right on the money. This is an excellent post.

God set that one tree of knowledge of good and evil off limits, being the only prohibition. Upon violating that there was no choice but for God to keep His word to them, to carry out the already spoken punishment for disobedience.

Since the tree of life had not been prohibited at the time God opened all other foods up for consumption, it is irrational to pose that it was not intended for man to physically die. But eating of that forbidden fruit required death. So man chose death over life with apparently little or no evaluation of such a choice. The reason for that is probably because by not being gods, Adam and Eve were not prepared to contaminate good thinking abilities with thoughts of evil, as evidenced by that very bad, foolish decision. God had to have had knowledge of evil though He only created good. He knew perversion of good knowledge would birth a world of evil thinking. It isn't that God created evil as a stand alone entity. It's more like creating gravity, knowing that is good for man for several reasons. It should be sufficient to tell the man "Don't jump off a high tree, else you might break your leg." If the man does that it wouldn't be something God directly caused, but knew such evil could occur. He decided to allow man freewill choice as to destiny, making man a little lower than angels, quite a powerful creature a bit short of being a god, like the angels are a bit short of that. Upon learning the way God can think did in fact make the man "like one of us", but lacking one big likeness, immortality in their present state of being. God did in fact make the man in His image and His likeness at a lower level of capability, the sin of eating of the one tree adding a capability.

By separating sinful man from gaining that immortality while in a sinner body I personally believe He prevented many possibilities of total destruction of humanity many times in history. I've often read of evil people who died fairly young. In time it is easy to imagine them capable of multiplying their evil rampages many fold. If allowed never to die, one or a small team of them would by now have left the planet a ball of lifeless charcoal. Yes, God, please keep that tree alongside your rivers in Heaven, not where an army of evil men live.

There were two trees. If they were both destroyed, or hidden away, then why put them front and centre in the garden in the first place?
There are two containers in my kitchen. One is called fridge and the other is garbage can. Told my guests to get food from the fridge.

From an earlier time if you like, but there is no mention of the water's creation. Genesis does not explain where the water came from, it is simply there and God is described as hovering over it.

My son’s New Oxford Annotated Bible explains that “the text does not describe creation out of nothing (contrast 2 Macc 7.28). Instead, the story emphasizes how God creates order from a watery chaos.” (NOAB, p. 11)

When were the planets created? On day four when the stars and the greater and lesser light were formed.

“In a critical response to non-Israelite cultures who worshiped these heavenly bodies, the bodies are not named and are identified as mere timekeepers.” (NOAB, p. 12)
Didn't Hebrews 11:3 say: "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible"?

Yeah, but you know how it goes...
sometimes the garbage can is just too tempting.

Same was true with the Tree of Knowledge...

Where did the water come from if God did not create it ?

When were the other planets created ?
Super Humidity. Ever used a dehumidifier in even lower levels of humidity, let alone the atmospheric water generators in use in remote poor areas in the world?

Why do people always want a scientific explanation before accepting it? This is the atheist conditioning where something has to fit in with a scientific explanation, but seriously if God can create or do anything, then isn't that an expectable answer?

So where did the water come from? It is possible God just created the extra water to cover the earth, it did not mean it had to exist to start with!

But if we look at the age and type of creatures before the flood, it is assumed that we had super greenhouse conditions created by a huge thick atmospheric layer of water and 100% humidity!

was water created on day one or outside time ?

You really are working hard to prove that Eden was just made up metaphors and never really existed, arn't you!

It rains today, its humid today, just as it was for all that time in Eden and pre-flood. Doesn't matter when water appeared in the 6 days to create everything, as I said it rains today and its humid today, just as it did in Eden!

As far as I know it did not rain in Eden.....First rain from sky to ground was the flood with Noah and the ark. A mist came up from the ground to water before that... In Genesis read the story of Noah again....
