I believe our brother Reborn should be given a chance and not be quickly rejected like a troll. The thread has gone a bit in a wrong direction for a moment yes and he might have started it a bit overzealously, but who of us didnt slip. He is one of rare people who actually APOLOGIZED to people here and in spite of disagreements... so I'd say give him a chance to fit in into the forums.

I hope I haven't liked any posts that 'bash' you. The Like thing isn't an exact science, nor is the way we use it. Sometimes we agree with part of a post and Like it, other times we agree with the whole post and Like it.
isn't that the truth? i sometimes feel uneasy when i am "like"ing someone's post that is essentially a prayer request about something bad happening in their life. but in a hurry, i guess it is my way of saying, "praying for you!!!" in CC shorthand?

or that someone has unburdened themselves of something less than rah-rah? and i am "like"ing it? more of a show of support. or applause for courage.

still, it often feels weird. but i assume that it's understood.

and occasionally, i will see someone post something that part of it i fully agree, and part i disagree. usually whether i will "like" it, unless the part i disagree with is so disagreeable that it outweighs my support of the former. hmmmm.

i have always said, we need like a few more buttons:

"awesome!"
"ok"
"so.very.wrong"
"burn them at the stake!"
"yawn"

anymore? ; p

Sometimes we agree with part of a post and Like it, other times we agree with the whole post and Like it. I suppose a better course of action with the former example would be to explain that in a following post.

I think we all need to check our actions, tone, words, and motives at the door before proceeding any further. I don't want us to have to resort to holding hands and having to sing Kumbayah, but if that's what it takes! :p
No not you, my man. Nor SoulWeaver (who is an absolute sweetheart btw) You've proven you have charm Brother. I crave peace. I'm good...thanks guys. :)

another thing that sort of amuses me, is when i will get messages from people saying, "wow, i really loved what you wrote there! or, "couldn't agree more!" but for whatever reason, they will NOT "like" it, for some reason that i can only speculate on.

i very seldom really think about that perception, so i always find it quite amusing. as if privately, they support the sentiment, but publicly, they are switzerland.

i guess i just don't think being switzerland is all that it's cracked up to be. didn't they invent the cuckoo clock?

sorry for the third post in a row, but i did miss the timer. sigh.

firstly, i want to say that i haven't read ALL of this thread, just part of it (from the beginning) but i am a little tired of the behavior of some thinking it's ok to call people trolls to their face. that IS name calling, and i think we can do better than that. if you want to "call someone a troll" you can do so much more loudly, via your behavior.

which is making a hasty exit and leaving the thread, thus eliminating your participation. we need to stop attacking people, in general. i am kind of tired of this being an acceptable form of "communication". i don't think there is anything wrong with calling someone out on their behavior, but to just dismissively label them (as being what i consider that label to be) as unwanted, having nothing worthwhile to say, or simply irrelevant, unworthy of kindness and respect -- that is something that needs to come to an end, in my opinion.

we know better, and we are called to higher standards.

I think the cause is because the Bible Discussion forums were full of mean posting lately, and people are really tired of that as you say and just dont have patience at this point.
But things seem to be getting better here.

Scriptures about the cross:

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
(1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV)

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
(Galatians 2:20 ESV)

"He himself bore our sins" in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; "by his wounds you have been healed."
(1 Peter 2:24 NIV)

Wow, I couldn't have said it better. ( and I shouldn't try to say it better. Apparently I need to check my tone on my posts...lol...I'm trying though :() Hopefully the Lord will guide me into a better way to convey my future posts in a little less abrasive, Rambo, guns out of the gate style. Thank you. Be well. :D

I've become better at not calling people out as trolls but sometimes there's no doubt that someone is a troll. This isn't the case here, Reborn's not a troll, but there are plenty in the Bible Why-Can't-We-Just-Love-Other Discussion Forum. Nowadays I generally just report them to the mods and then they investigate to see if they should be banned (like the guy the other day who pretended to be a Christian coming out of the occult and then in the same day said, "Nup, not for me" and tried to recruit myself and some others to his occult order".

Reborn, we get some seriously dangerous people here and others who just love to cause trouble and bring division to the Body. We've had men sexually preying on women and women trying to seduce guys (that happened to me, I got the harpies banned). There is a lot of crap that goes on here. Not everyone's a Christian and even those who claim a saving faith have to be discerned to a degree. That's why some of us are very wary, on edge, less trusting of new members than we could otherwise be. I'm sorry that this has been your experience. Thank you for forgiving me. I'm not using that as an excuse but as an understanding.

Yes they did. And that has led to some odd problems...

Gypsy, you're talking about a neutral nation but all I can think about is different types of cheeses. Mmm...

I'd like to see maybe a : " I get that you don't dig my thread, but can we just agree to disagree, and maybe we should go our separate ways for a monemt and cool off, then come back and talk again, still?......no?, Okay, let's take a bit more time, then maybe meet up on a future post and then see if we agree on that topic" button? :D

You should start THAT thread question. Awesome.

Back to the OP, the point is you can go back in history with symbols and pagan rituals and such and find anything you like but the point is why you YOURSELF would choose to wear a cross, as I explained on page1 it's personal, it's about what Jesus did for ME, what others make of it isn't the point although as someone else said it can be used as a conversation starter.

It's the same with the topic of Christmas - yes it may have began as a pagan festival but the fact is as Christians we celebrate it for a very different reason.

Seriously I hate legalism...

Legalism can get into some very strange avenues, and the logic used in legalism can be... well... amusing.

For example, we should not keep felines as pets. Cats were once worshipped as gods. Having a cat is a pagan symbol.

Try telling any cat owner THAT one.
