I believe that John's view is of the little horn's smaller kingdom that "is" at the beginning of the 70th week decreed for Israel still pending .... John was shown of the things hereafter.... after the church age still running
The beast "was not" during John's day .... this beast was in the abyss and still is there .... and will come out .... and "yet is"
John is not looking at the Roman Empire of his day

John's spirit was called up and taken into the future from the Lord's vantage point to be shown what must take place in the future

4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
4:2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
The beast and his 6th kingdom that John sees was not Rome .... and the beast that had been ruling his first 5 kingdoms ...."was not" ruling in John's day during Rome's rule
His 5th kingdom of the Seleucid rule [Syria/Iraq] fell to the Romans and then to the Arabians ....and there have been several other rulers of the region since .... his 5th "head" [kingdom] was "wounded"
His 7 "heads" are his kingdoms in the Middle East
Fallen angels including Abaddon are kept in the abyss where they can not interact with humanity .... but the day is coming when these will be released upon the earth [2 Peter 2:4; Jude 1:6]
And the beast that "was" and "is not" will come to rule again .... he will be released from the abyss by Satan along with myriads of other fallen ones [Revelation 9:1-11]
His 5th kingdom [head] of the past will be "healed" .... and he will rule again
His 6th will be a smaller enclave in the Middle East at first .... thus the "little" horn of Daniel's visions, and he will expand it into the larger divided kingdom of iron and clay
This beast will fully possess the human little horn [king] and rule with 10 other human kings over his 7th and final kingdom .... it is Satan who will give him his power and authority [Revelation 13:1-4]
When he has subjugated the current states of the Middle East by the human little horn, he will then become the 8th king himself .... he is "of all 7" human king positions .... standing behind them
Know that Satan is the "god" of this world and has been since humans were created, so he was ruling over the Roman Empire just as he does over all of the nations, but his beast of 9:11 is a different matter .... one assigned to the Middle East to do his bidding
This angelic prince and king of the abyss angles is the one coming to rule over his 6th and 7th kingdoms in the Middle East where he has always ruled since the flood .... he has a history and a future [Revelation 17:8-18]

I do indeed know how we all could live that life! But until I can learn to convince you all, I may very well die and be killed by the very people I love and are trying to save from this life. True .... Daniel's vision looks forward .... Revelation sums up with 3 of the beast's historical kingdoms in symbol and then shows the beast ruling again during the coming tribulation period [Daniel's next 4th]

time in prophesy is never seen as symbolic, to symbolize time is to take away the power of prophesy, anyone can make prophesy and it would come true,

The roman church did the same thing for over a thousand years, If God waits to long, another religious faction will do the same. it is nothing new.
The beast will declair himself God, and will destroy all other Gods, including the Muslim God, in promoting himself. This is what scripture says.
So the muslim threat can automatically be thrown out as the final beast based on its merit

Yes, All relating to jerusalem or Israel..
1. Egypt (enslaved them)
2. Syria (took the northern kingdom)
3. Babylon (took the southern kingdom)
4. Medes and persions (Held control over Isreal and the city)
5. Greece (held control of Israel and the city until rome took over)
this completes the 5 who were
6. Rome (help power in the time of Johns writing (one that is)
7. Rome (will hold power in the end and be destroyed by Christ at his return)
the reason nothing is said past rome until the future Rome, is Israel and Jerusalem was taken out of th epicture, and the gentile church was instituted.
The reason future Rome is mentions, is because Israel and the city of Jerusalem are back in the picture

I would be careful to assume the angel of the bottomles pit is satan,
satan will be cast into the bottomless pit after christ returns.
today he is roaming the earth, seeking who he may devour, in heaven declaring things against the saints, and controlling his army.
he still has access to heaven today, it is when he is cast down to earth, they he enters the world ruler we know as the beast and all hell breaks lose.

the bottomless pit in rev, and the beast which comes out of it, the beast that was, is not, and will be again is rome. The ceasar of Rome held great power, and declared himself God of the world. and demanded the world worship him. This future world leader will do the exact same thing when he enters and abominates the temple, declaring himself to be God, the savior of the world. and demand everyone worship him.
He will control the worlds finances, He will control the worlds wealth, and like rome in Johns day, take that wealth for his own, and build up his army, which John declares in revelation will control every nation tribe and language of the earth.
eventually, Satan himself will enter him, as he becomes the son of perdition. And the only way his power will be broken is when Christ returns to defeat him and his army personally outside Jerusalem.
it is here where the prophesies of the gentile kingdoms of daniel are defeated, and the age of the gentile is complete.

Once one understands who the first beast of Revelation is the next Prophet to look at is Daniel
He is given the visions of the human component of Satan's contrivance that links human kingdoms and related king positions with this beast

I must disagree,
the son of perdition is satan himself. That is the final beast.
The man of sin will be revealed when the one who restains is taken away.
Satan entered Judas, and he became the son of perdition. Like Judas, the world leader will be entered by satan himself.
Judas hung himself after satan left him, the fianl beast and his counterpart will be cast into the lake of fire.
Remember, Nebuchadnezzar was told by daniel, HE WAS the first beast. The head of Gold,
