I've read the entire thread and I'd like to add a few things if I may.
Cako53, I know you don't agree with every detail of the big bang theory, but one aspect of the theory is that the stars formed before the earth did. It's not possible to have a big bang theory where the earth is formed before the stars. Yet, the bible tells us that God created the stars after he created the earth. So I think the bible actually does say that God did not use the big bang to create the universe. What's your opinion about this?
Kittykat, you're right about having read something about Hubble seeing stars being born, but that is not exactly what Hubble saw. Scientists just found an area in space which in their theory has the right properties to form new stars. The stars in that area are said to be young (according to their theory), but these newborn stars are still supposed to be millions of years old (again according to their theory). Fact is, scientists have really never seen a new star pop into existance out of a dust cloud. That's only happening in their minds. What I want to say is that it's quite important to seperate the actual facts from what scientists make of these facts. You have to be very carefull nowadays, because scientists tend to present things as facts, where it's really just their interpretation of those facts, often based on the wrong preassumptions.
And finally a question for greatkraw. You said that the physical universe is unarguably finite. Is that really true? I thought the size of the universe is unknown, because the distance we can see is limited.
