I would say that it is more accurate that we attract to ourselves people who exemplify the condition of our own soul. An unhealthy soul will attract to itself an unhealthy soul as much as a healthy one will attract a healthy one.

I see some women saying things like, "You need to pray to GOd to get confirmation that the person you are dating is God's chosen husband or wife for you. I personally don't believe that God always has a specific person in mind for you to be with. I don't find it to be biblical at all. The reason why it bothers me seeing women say stuff like this, is I think they may dump someone that they should be married to, or even worse get married to someone they shouldn't be with. All because they got some false confimation. When I was young I was quite naive the same way and thought God confirmed that I was supposed to be with a woman and it turned out she was definitely no person I should get married to. I believe that if God really wants you to be with someone you will end up with that person. The bible says that God is not a God of confusion. Do y'all agree or disagree with me? Now I'm not against praying to God to let you know if a person is right for you or not. I just don't believe God usually has a specific wife or husband He chose for you to be with. Yeah it sounds romantic and all, but I think it's rubbish. lol.
God will only have a spouse in mind if this is what was prayed for. Oh, yeah, it can be very romantic.

What did he tell joseph ? Joseph was to fulfill a the prophecy that Jesus would come from the lineage of David

Why did he give Adam a wife ? did Adam ask ? no but he was alone and had God made two women for him to choose between one would have ended up without a man and therefore alone...all due respect dude you're choosing very specific examples (or I call them exceptions) to prove your point...

What would you say about Samson ? what about Samson? He chose his own person without God's Divine council...

lets leave the thread in peace okay i just made by two sense ;)
No one is saying we shouldn't seek God's wisdom when pursuing a mate, we are just suggesting that God isn't going to say Moses here THIS IS THE ONE I set aside for you! not all these other ones but this one specifically... Think about it there are 7 Billion people in the world today if God has set a woman for each of us be married to He must be doing a a lot of organization up in Heaven so that these people are going to be born within the same radius and/or coordinate meetings so that these people can end up together...Like I said before I do respect where you're coming from not trying to force you to see it my way (if it's coming off that way I do apologize) I'm just trying to point out that your examples are so few that they haven't convinced me :p

I would agree - 100%

crazy begets crazy

People want what is bad for them - even spouses

People take abuse from others, because they have a twisted view of themselves, i can't do any better, I deserve the way they treat me

Then they realize, oh that nice person, was way better than this loser, hey nice person, I like you now that I have screwed up my life, can you help me as I put this burden on you that somehow I expect you to carry?

I tried to be non-gender specific lol

It's interesting that God allows us to be crazy and then will use our stupid decisions to redeem our lives. He truly is a God of mercy...and the only thing we have to do is accept His mercy.

God may or may not have a "specific" person but I sure would want to know beyond a shadow of a doubt He wanted me to marry whatever man was in my life. People have backgrounds you may never know until you are married.

You're right about finding out till after marriage, with certain people, what type of person they are. However, I think this is where commitment comes into play. People change everyday, you learn something new about someone everyday. Comes down to commitment.

Of course, I don't condone abuse. That is a different topic.

I must have been very sheltered (or quite naive) because I grew up thinking that when people said "the ONE", they meant "they one I will marry" rather than "the one and only person I'm destined to be with and with whom I share perfect compatibility". Kinda like saying "my future spouse". I always hoped that Id only have one spouse in my future so the term "the one" made sense to me.

When I was dating my now fiance, I remember asking myself if he was the one. I never meant "one" in a "soulmate" way. I just meant "I wonder if he's the one I'll end up marrying".

Anyway, not sure if I'm making much sense. I do think the soulmate stuff is silly

Whether or not there is a God-ordained "The One" for you can be debated until doomsday, but if you're going out with someone and you ask God if this person is a good one to get serious with He'll show you.

I remember one friend of mine was going with a nice young lady he was thinking seriously about proposing to. He asked God to show him if it was the right thing to do. The very next date they had... "I saw more red flags than a chinese parade!" What is in the heart will come out, and if you ask God He'll make sure you get the information you need.

DO. NOT. GET. ME. STARTED. ON. THIS!!!!

One of my biggest pet peeves that I've experienced far too often. So much worse when in church, just because you would expect better but people are people wherever you go.
