It takes forever to load all those pictures and gifs on my slow connection. One reason I never check certain other threads.

Woke up this morning to my hot water pipes being frozen again. That happened at least three times last winter, so after having had some experience, I was able to get them thawed and running again, but this time around my kitchen sink isn't draining, which means that the drain is frozen up somewhere. I spent some time with the blowdryer trying to heat up the pipes between the sink and the floor but it didn't seem to do anything. Thankfully the frigid temps are supposed to break and get back up into the high 20's and low 30's by Sunday, so I'm hoping that keeping the cabinets open and the heat turned up will help out. I think I might stick a space heater under the sink when I get home too.

If you all could, just say a prayer that this doesn't turn into a much worse and costly situation with a burst pipe or something like that. Apparently the pipes that I have will expand up to an extra 50% of their normal size which delays any possible chance of them bursting, so I'm hoping that they'll be okay for another couple of days.

I once worked customer service at Kohl's. One lady in particular was very stressed out and behaved very rudely to me. Later, I got a phone call. It was her. She was in tears rambling about how poorly she treated me and that I was so nice, blah blah blah...

Just sharing this so that some customer service people somewhere out in the world may feel a little vindicated.

Do you have old pipes? My grandfather lives in the house that time forgot in Oregon, and during the Winter, he leaves his faucets at a constant drip to avoid the pipes freezing over. Maybe you doing the same would help? (I'm not keen as to how it prevents freezing.)

Tough break, though. I hope things will be okay also!

He is right....when we lived up north............the most important faucet to open up in outside........the one withyour hose on it............it keeps the water from pooling up and freezing...........

The pipes aren't old, but the house is really poorly insulated. It was basically built as a block house and then to make it look newer, someone just put up studs and siding with zero insulation. I had to call a plumber a couple of times last year, and he had to cut a hole in the wall to get to where the water pipes were in order to thaw them, and when he cut through that drywall, you could immediately feel a strong draft moving in between the siding and the block.

I do keep the faucets dripping when it's cold now. I guess I just didn't have them over on the hot water side enough yesterday. It's just a bit trickier when you're talking about a drain instead of a water line.

I hope your pipes are okay. Meanwhile those of us in the not-so-fortunate temperature zones of the earth are bracing for an early onslaught of summer. It is only January and the temperature is already around 86F (i.e. 30C). -.-
