No, obamacare says if they work us over a certain number of hours they have to provide insurance. So they are careful to work us under that number of hours because obamacare's health insurance costs are much higher than what we used to have.

Why don't we have what we used to have? Because obamacare made what we used to have illegal.

So yeah, we don't understand the logic either. I don't think anyone understands it.

30 hours a week is way too low. So 9 to 5, 6-days-a-week business would have to hire two people to do one job. That is bound to increase costs. They will surely pass that on to the customer.

I can see how this is wrong on sooooo many levels ....

I have heard that Congress is trying to get that number pushed up to 40, though. It only makes sense since the 40-hour work week is applied everywhere else. But yeah, the whole legislation is ridiculous. So many problems arising from it.

Roh_Chris: Yeah, tell me about it! I feel sorry for my wallet but I almost feel MORE sorry for the managers. Our main manager actually had a nervous breakdown and had to quit. The assistant managers were calling her at all times of the day and night, "We don't have anyone to work this shift, we can't ask these people because they're already too close to 30 hours," etc. She now works at a local pizza place (NOT as the manager) and she's a lot happier. I may follow her soon.

I think the only reason I don't feel more sorry for the managers than for me is because I'm not a manager. If I were I'd feel doubly sorry for me, and for me as a manager. And this is only one of the many, many reasons I'm not going to be a manager there, no matter how many ask me or how long I have worked there or how well I do my job. Nope, not gonna happen, you can't pay me enough to compensate for the ulcers.

Obama gave a State of the Union address the other night...he has a LOT more ideas to increase customer costs in our fine country. Stuff that sounds good on the surface for the workers, but will screw up business owners even worse and raise prices on all kinds of things to make up for it (if these things get passed, anyway, and a fair amount of them probably will).
Yay!

...that concludes my annual brief discussion of the politics of 'Murica.

Lynx, why did you have to bring up Obamacare? Now my blood pressure is through the ceiling and I'm having heart palpitations. I am one of the "lucky" people who work for a small company that does not fall under the mandate so at least I get to work a full forty.

Remember how when this monstrosity was getting pushed through we were all told that the first year's "fine" (oh wait, they said it was a "fine" until it went to court, then it became a tax) for individuals without health insurance would be $95? They forgot to say that was only for people below the poverty line that would qualify for Medicaid anyway. I just did my taxes last week and because my AGI was $29,900 my "fine" was $299. The fine print says that if you make more that a certain amount the "fine" (for this year) is 1% of your AGI.

I guess I shouldn't complain, the $300 was still less than one month's insurance premium.

Since politics have come up, I just thought I'd mention that Congress dropped the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act today because of concerns that they would lose appeal to female and younger voters. The bill would have banned abortions after 20 weeks. It's so frustrating. These were Republicans too. (That is why I will never identify with a party.) There is literally no good reason a bill like that should be dropped, and yet they thought a poor reason was suffice anyway. I get the feeling sometimes that when people actually get to office, their head is so stuck in the clouds that they lose the ability to think in logical and down-to-earth ways about things like this, or they just get wrapped up in their own selfish interests. I bet if they were ever given the opportunity to see an abortion take place, they wouldn't do it.

I wish I could! I don't have anyone to borrow from, though. It's all good, I found something and...paid extra for 1-day delivery. Ha. I hate parties :p

it is still unconstitutional. Government has no right to mandate you buy anything nor can they fine/tax you for not buying something.

I won't pay the stupid fine/tax. period.
