a new command I give you: love one another as I have loved you.

I do, just like the Bible says...

1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Well your the one who said you are "striving" and of course John says the same thing that only love in Christ keeps Gods commandments... so why not love instead of strive at legalism?

Who is striving at legalism?

Again, best definition I have seen of legalism...

I would say the first of these fiends were the original Pharisees and Sadducees of the Bible. No, even before them there were people to whom God condemned for putting the laws of man over the laws of God.

That, essentially, is my point in full. Legalists are anyone and everyone who puts mans traditions over God's laws.
A scriptural example of this would be found in Matthew 23:16-24 or Isaiah 1:12-17.

Note that I am not trying to point fingers on here. I am not calling anyone a dangerous legalist. I am simply warning against the sin of legalism.

Oh and about the striving thing...

2Ti 2:5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

It is my duty to the brethren to point out and stress the meaning imparted by the title of any thread. Many of the titles can be totally misconstrued by the skimmer. Whether I post to the entire post, thread or simply to titles is my rigth, especially in wanting to demonstrate how the title alone sounds.

Well of course most would at least read the first post to see the context... but Im sure your right to only read the title and then comment ...but having read your first and second post, im still not sure you understand that Gods law is not in the written code of Moses, its in the Spirit? God bless you :)

When the subject of this thread comes up, there are so many who point out that Jesus left us the new commandment to love one another. It is an easy way for many to demonstrate how they understand, however Jesus also teaches the two great laws are the two of Love, upon which hangs all of the law. Now we know if all the law hangs on Love the Law is here with Love.........please do not think for a moment that loving each other is precluding even the least of these laws, for from Jesus we know the only thing that precludes any of the laws is grace. He is merciful, and we, following His teaching and Example must be merciful. Do not diminish the wisdom of the Law, for it is Abraham who is our spiritual forefather, and He is such because he believed God, and He obeyed his statutes. If you do not already know this, study the Word and you will.

God bless you.

I think the real issue is, why is it so hard for people to just do what God says to do?

Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

So then do what God says to do.

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

What is the one and only way a person can be perfect?

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Paul tries to explain what it is to come to Christ.

Galatians 2:19-21
[SUP]19 [/SUP]For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

How about if I do what Christ said to do?

Mat 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Those commandments are designed to bring you to the Lord Jesus Christ. Because you can't do them by yourself.

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Pretty obvious, right?

No you can't obey on your own, but...

Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Just to chime in here... Although I don't think it's completely relevant to the debate between antinomianism and legal observance, I think it's worth being said that most people I've met who identify as Judeo-Christian and attempt to observe the teachings of God (not just the 10 commandments) do it in a way that is different from modern Jews. They observe those teachings because they believe it is what God wants or because they feel closer to God when observing them. They don't do it because observance is tradition, because they were brought up that way, purely for the sake of adhering to a set of regulations, for the sake of preserving one's cultural identity or even for feeling better about themselves. Any law, without the backing of God, is just a set of rules and regulations. But if a law has the backing of God, then it makes you stop and think, "Maybe it has merit."

The Pharisees of Christ's time in this world were neglecting the spirit of God's laws to obey the letter. Christ accused them of twisting God's laws (i.e. those laws in the Old Testament). And he said to them, "You give a tenth of your spices - mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law - justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former."

Note that justice, mercy and faithfulness come from the same "Law" that prompted the Pharisees to tithe their mint, dill and cumin. And also note that Jesus admonishes them, saying that they should have obeyed both. Jesus isn't supporting the laws regarding justice, mercy and faithfulness while downplaying tithes. He's supporting both, but he's emphasizing the weightier laws, because that's what the situation called for.

The command to be perfect because our Father is perfect is a promise from the Father to all who believe.

Just as His commandment is life everlasting, a promise.

I understand this in this manner for neither may be executed for any of us by ourselves, it is the Father Who perfects us, and it is the Father Who gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ.

I like these promises, commandments, and I will be perfect in Christ, also I will live forever in Christ. So will all of the members of the family in Christ, for it is His will.

Well your the one who said you are "striving" and of course John says the same thing that only love in Christ keeps Gods commandments... so why not love instead of strive at legalism?

what many call legalism is what I see as submitting to HIS Standard of love and not making my own standard up and taa daaa, "I love"

what is love? is it not explained in His Law?

just like the Bible says...

1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Its easier to say im walking in love if I ignore His standard.....so its appetizing to the flesh because the flesh can have everything it wants and still claim to be walking in love. I know none here personally so I dont put this on anyone, but the basis of what I say I believe to be true for Scriptural reasons....

Romans 8:5-8 (ESV), "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God."

Romans 8:5-8, "For those who live according to the flesh, set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit, set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against; (bitterly opposed to), Yahweh; for it his not subject to the Law of Yahweh, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are of the flesh cannot please Yahweh."

that is why He sends us HIS spirit;

Ezekiyl 36:26-28, "A new heart; mind, will I also give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the heart of stone out of your flesh, and will give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments, and do them. And you will dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you will be My people, and I will be your Father."

Yeremyah 31:33, "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israyl: After those days, says Yahweh: I will put My Law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts, and I will be their Strength, and they will be My people."

To all my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Matthew 9:16-17
Spoken by Jesus [New International Version (NIV)]

[SUP]16 [/SUP]“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.[SUP]17 [/SUP]Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

Explanation of "wineskins":
In Bible times, wine was not kept in glass bottles but in goatskins sewn around the edges to form watertight bags. New wine expanded as it fermented, stretching its wineskin. After the wine had aged, the stretched skin would burst if more new wine was poured into it. New wine, therefore, was always put into new wineskins.

Summery of scripture:
Jesus did not come to patch up the old religious system of Judaism with its rules and traditions. If he had, his message would have damaged it. His purpose was to bring in something new, though it had been prophesied for centuries. This new message, the gospel, said that Jesus Christ, God's son, came to earth to offer all people forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God. The gospel did not fit into the old ridged legalistic system of religion. It needed a fresh start. The message will always remain "new" because it must be accepted and applied in every generation. When we follow Christ, we must be prepared for new ways to live, new ways to look at people, and new ways to serve.

Conclusion of scripture:
Jesus Christ came to offer all people forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God. This was a new thing, new wine. For those who have heard the Gospel of Christ and accepted the truth of this Gift of Grace eternal salvation is secured. God's laws and statutes, prior to Christ's coming, are not to be disposed of, for they are still God's Word, was not a mistake, but are no longer to be seen as the way to salvation. For those Saved by Grace they are still to be used as God's guidance in our daily walk.

Let your wineskin be new (by the renewal of your mind) and receive the gift of God's New Wine (salvation through Jesus the Christ) so that you and the Gift will be preserved.

God bless.

what is love? is it not explained in His Law?

Love is not explained in the law. It is demanded by the law. God's standard of Love is explained on the Cross.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

True love IS explained in Yah's Law it is CARRIED OUT IN ITS purest form in the Messiah's willing Sacrifice....

1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

All who believe Jesus Christ live in the grace provided by His Blood shed for us on the Cross.
Believing Jesus Christ means we love His Word. We know we are free of the law, but never are we to ignor the teachings from the law, for the law was given by Jesus Christ. He is the Word.

So with this all in mind, and the quewtion posed as the title of this thread, I love God's law.. It is not in my heart written to ignore His law, nor is it in the heart of any who love Jesus Christ.. May God bless all with His teaching and understand what He has taught us since Adam.

What point do you think God was making here?

Joh 1:16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

again you seem confused between the "letter" and the Spirit? And what good does it do you guys to study the law and not admit they only way to fufill it? So you guys can pretend to love Gods law all you want? why do you not teach the only biblical way to fulfill it?

What kind of double talk is this?..its clear that ALL the law is fulfilled in one word ...so why are you guys not teaching the simplicity of Christ...to love? Why all this legalism? And the law is not in the letter...it cannot be kept by the written code! So ONLY THOSE who teach love are teaching others to keep the law! All those who teach legalism are breaking the law and teaching others to do the same!

Love is not explained in the law. It is demanded by the law. God's standard of Love is explained on the Cross.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
We love him (first commandment) because He first loved us....no one is keeping the true law of God apart from Gods love and grace.
