i keep them in my mind/heart. but i confess i do not keep them as i ought to. there are many commandments. the new covenant does not do away with God's moral laws.
i do fail. i am not Jesus.

We all fail, that is why we can approach that wonderful throne of grace and receive forgiveness and cleansing each time we fall short. If anything, the Law glorifies Christ's sacrifice...

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Yes, I agree, we should be very careful with our words...

Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

Col 1:14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Forgiveness and justification do not come from advocacy, it comes from His shed blood in our stead...

1Jn 2:2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

again, i will ask, are you saying Jesus must shed his blood repeatedly again and again? we know it was his blood shed on calvary. he is he bleeding still?

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Forgiveness and justification do not come from advocacy, it comes from His shed blood in our stead...

there is no need to cover an error in speech in casual conversion by the above:) muddying the discourse by adding justification.

these verses say forgiveness ARE granted by his advocacy. he has the power to forgive sin.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

all that on the basis of his qualification as the only perfect once for all sacrifice, the new covenant (forgiveness of sins) in his blood.

Jesus bled and died once.

No, I don't claim that I obey PERFECTLY, that is your statement, not mine...

Oh, I must certainly do obey the Commandments do you?

you either obey perfectly, or you don't obey. it seems to me.
is there any indication the Law can be obeyed imperfectly?
and, i apologize, but you did emphatically say you do obey. perhaps being more careful and saying to begin with that "Oh, I must certainly do obey imperfectly" would clear up the wasted time and misunderstandings.

I have made this observation many times but will repeat it once more...

Ever notice there is never any spirited discussion about whether it is OK to break any of the other nine Commandments? It is only the Sabbath that is called into question.

Hmmm, so do you obey perfectly? If not, you are judged by the same standard...

1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So, if one sins there are doomed?

No, now for the rest of the story...

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Heb 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Heb 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

It is willful sin that is not forgiven. Willful sin is that of refusing to try to obey. God's mercy is not extended to one who wil deliberately sins without remorse or repentance.

Ever notice that everyone has a different way of "keeping" the 4th?

Do you think that resting in Christ is breaking the 4th commandment?

because the sabbath laws given to israel are not taught by the apostles, who taught the new covenant to us.

Jesus kept the Sabbath...

Luk 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Act 13:13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
Act 13:14 But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

On what day did Paul teach?

Act 13:42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

now notice when the gentiles wanted Paul to teach them?

Act 13:44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

Why didn't Paul explain to them they should meet on some other day?

Act 16:13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
Act 16:14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
Act 16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

Why did Paul teach Lydia on the Sabbath? Why did God open her mind on the Sabbath? Why was she worshipping on the Sabbath?

Act 17:2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

What was Paul's manner?

Act 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

Gentiles on the Sabbath.

Ever notice that everyone has a different way of "keeping" the 4th?

Do you think that resting in Christ is breaking the 4th commandment?

Absolutely not. It is very important to rest in Christ EVERY day, but Christ only made one day a week holy and set apart for holy use (sanctified) and that is the seventh day.

Where does Christ say that?

So, you are above obeying the letter of the Law?

How does that work for Commandment #7?

Your wife approve of that does she? I know that God does not.
Are you naturally this obstinate or is this a trait you have cultivated in yourself?

Is grace attained by the law or by mercy? Is your expectation that you will be resurrected unto eternal life because you keep the Sabbath?

Been kind of cold around here this winter. If we keep the Sabbath we must turn off our electric so as not to kindle a fire on the Sabbath.

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

i do not judge you, should you decide to follow jewish holidays and customs.
you are commanded to afford your brothers and sisters the same liberty.
there is not a single historical, orthodox christian theologian or scholar who argue that gentile christians were commanded to observe the sabbath day according to jewish law (moses).
i understand there are sects which make fuss about the 7th day. as long as they do not judge others, they are free in Christ to exercise their liberty to eat or not eat; keep feasts or not (even though it is impossible to do so stricly since there is no temple, and no one goes to Jeruslam even if there were there one)

Gentiles on the Sabbath.

paul was preacher to the jews and the gentiles.
he taught them in the synagogue where they were already assembled.

that is why he was teaching them:)
there were God-fearers among them (gentiles)

Where does Christ say that?

Now c'mon Grandpa, you didn't really think I would say something I couldn't back up with chapter and verse did you?

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Now who created ALL things including the Sabbath?

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

And who was the I AM that gave the Law to Moses?

Joh 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Hmmm, all I can say is your understanding of the Sabbath is lacking...

Exo 35:1 And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should do them.
Exo 35:2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.
Exo 35:3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.
Exo 35:4 And Moses spake unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD commanded, saying,
Exo 35:5 Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass,

The Sabbath is so important to God that He commands us not to make a fire to do any work on the Sabbath. Notice the context is that of building the Tabernacle. God did not want work done on the Tabernacle on the Sabbath day.

As far as obstinate, when it comes to compromising with the Word of God I am as adamant as flint.

Ah, so since I don't obey perfectly, why try? Why not go out and break EVERY Commandment with alacrity? In other words, since I can't be perfect, why not sin willfully?

No thanks...

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

God provides forgiveness for our shortcomings...

1Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1Jn 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1Jn 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1Jn 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

I've smelled this red herring before and it has not or will not put me off the track.

Oh, so Christ kept the Law. The Old Covenant Law? You do know that the Torah is the Law of the New Covenant don't you?

Heb 8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

The problem was not with the Law, it was with the people...

Heb 3:10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.

Heb 8:9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
Heb 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

OK, now you do know that this passage is a DIRECT quote from the book of Jeremiah, don't you?

Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Pay particular attention to verse 33, the word for Law there is...

So, the New Covenant is the writing of the Torah in our hearts and minds.

But God found fault with the people and said: "The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.

what did the people of the new covenant do?

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

the apostles did not teach or command sabbath keeping in the new testament (covenant) anywhere.
if it were required at all, we would see it taught in detail to gentiles in the letters. yet the sabbath is conspicuously absent as commanded for christians.

as i'm sure you've heard before (your doctrine is clear, and undoubtedly you won't change your mind - which is not my intention) - that all historians and scholars agree that early christians gathered on the first day of the week.

On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight. There were many lamps in the upper room where we were gathered together.

anyways, have a great day today:)

Jesus kept every jot and tittle - of the old covenant laws.

paul was preacher to the jews and the gentiles.

Why didn't Paul explain to them that they could meet on the first day of the week? In fact, let's look at Acts 15...

Act 15:1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
Act 15:2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

Subject here is not even one of the Ten Commandments, it is circumcision.

Act 15:7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

This, in fact, required a headquarters conference to settle.

Now if something as drastic as a change in one of the Ten Commandments occurred, where is the discussion and wrangling that inevitable would have resulted?

There is no mention in the New Testament of any change to the fourth Commandment.

Oh, so Christ kept the Law. The Old Covenant Law? You do know that the Torah is the Law of the New Covenant don't you?

So, the New Covenant is the writing of the Torah in our hearts and minds.

this is so confused and erroneous i won't reply at length. you know the new covenant was the FINAL and complete forgiveness of sins that could not be forgiven under the old covenant.

Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.

When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day-- things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ

Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised.

Not even those who are circumcised keep the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh.

circumcision being the sign of entry into the old covenant, i'm afraid the scripture has imprisoned you under sin - until you could be forgiven by grace through faith in what Jesus did...not what you did or do.
