I did that once as a teenager if that makes you feel any better.

Got all the way to putting the key in the ignition and was like "why doesn't this thing want to start, what's wrong with it." Then I glance down and notice the white face gauges. Exterior and interior were otherwise identical.

"I swear it looks just like mine" is probably not a good excuse when the cop is trying to tell you that you were trying to boost the car. Then again, it was my parent's mini van. Who boosts a mini van.

When I was a kid my Mom had something similar happen, but the key DID work (fortunately she figured it out before she drove off). Thousands of cars (out of hundreds of thousands) roll off assembly lines with either identical or very similar keying, but it's a statistical improbability for something like that to happen.

Haha... I can imagine how you felt!

My daughters were at home one day when someone pulled up in front of the house. They were expecting it to be me, but didn't recognize the car, and so they planned to just let them knock and not answer. (Standard routine when they were home alone.)

The people came up to the front door, opened the glass storm door, and then actually turned the handle and started walking in. My daughter just froze where she was, staring.

The door opened about 6 inches, and they looked down and saw our dog staring at them right at the door. (He was shocked too - he thought it was going to be me coming home.)

The girls said that they heard a muffled "Wait, this is the WRONG HOUSE". The door shut, the people shuffled back to their car, and never realized that their little mix-up had been witnessed by anyone but someone's family dog.

What I am wondering though... is how you can know someone well enough to just walk in without knocking, and yet not well enough to realize that you are at the wrong house? :p

You know you're starting to get old when you realize you're becoming like Squidward.

You know you're starting to get old when you realize that Jerry was quite a jerk to Tom.

You know you're starting to get old when you realize Wil E Coyote could have just ordered Take Out.

You know you're starting to get old when you realize a lot of the popular celebrities are now younger than you.

You know you're starting to get old when you realize you can't pull an all-nighter anymore

You know you're starting to get old when you start making noises getting into and out of bed

Grace-Like-Rain: I was too busy wondering why the door was unlocked...

Leadfoot: Have you tried take-out lately? The burgers aren't made with real meat anymore. But when my cat caught a bird and ate it (which happened regularly) the air was filled with a smell like really, really fresh ground beef. I think my cat ate better than I did. So I can see why the coyote would want to catch the road runner.

There's another problem with the coyote/road runner thing though...

6:00 am is when you get up, not when you go to bed.

In a hostage situation, you are likely to be released first.

You have too much room in the house and not enough room in the medicine cabinet.

I wondered who was gonna catch that! They had unlocked it because they thought at first that it was me pulling in. (They are 18 and 15, so they do leave it unlocked when they are heading in and out.)

You know you're getting old when you get sleepy after your lunch.
You know you're getting old when a good Friday night is spending it watching Shark Tank and 20/20 with your mom. LOL
You know you're getting old when your homework seems like a piece of cake and all your other classmates (who are about 4 years younger) think it's "so hard!"

You’ve said the wrong number when someone has asked your age.

You've replaced slam dancing with the Grand Slam at Denny's.

You form a cover band called Counting Crows Feet.

You know you're getting old.. when this was your first cell phone:

View attachment 96862

my first cell phone was of a similar kind, but at least twice as thick
The manual said you could send messages with it, but not how.
The combined efforts of my mother, father, sister(s) and myself never led to us finding out.
