you offer the gift of "knowledge"? One of the most glaringly obvious examples of how the bible IS true, is how modern scientific knowledge of the brain and how it functions only serve to prop up the bible and its recipe for being healthy in spirit, body and soul. I coukd go into greater detail but I'm on my phone. Perhaps if you are as opened minded as you claim to be, you could provide us with some examples of what the bible says to be true about the human experience as far as new discoveries concerning principles in scripture that today's science says are "good for us". But I digress, your purpose is to find contradiction vs any congruency and therefore you will find what you are looking for.

Modern scientific knowledge of the brain is something I'm very familiar with. Are you?

For one thing, FMRI's allow us to observe the brain working. If there was ever a place for the soul to hide, it was there. And yet nothing that people think is ever separate from these firing neurons, which leads us to believe that thoughts all exist physically. But that should've been obvious all along, as brain damage can cause you to lose memory, change your personality, and even take away your senses. If these things aren't part of the soul, then what exactly did you expect to live after your death?

We've also observed a "god center", a part of the brain that compels us to believe. Christians often cite this as evidence for God, though it's the opposite. If your brain compels you to worship, it follows logically that you will worship, whether or not there's something really out there to worship. It's like when you're so hungry that you eat paper -- it's not proof that the paper is food, but rather evidence that you'll eat anything when you lack real food.

Finally, we know that people are of "more than one mind"... if you sever someone's corpus callosum, the bundle of nerves at the back of the brain that connects both hemispheres, you'll find that a person has two separate personalities. In one case, a patient was discovered who believed in God with one side of the brain but disbelieved with the other.

For one who proclaims to be a Christian, the next question should be, "How do you deal with your sin?"

I know that God dealt with my SIN problem over 2,000 years ago and is not dealing with me about it today or ever since I become a son of God.

I know that I was saved by Grace through my faith and not anything else I could or can do and that Jesus complete work on the cross gave me the position of being righteous before Abba Father......when I miss it at times, I simply ask his forgiveness...

As a result of being made righteous I am living more holy and sanctified on accident than I ever will on purpose....because with the free gift of salvation, I also received the free gift of being made righteous and can become a partaker of the divine nature.

The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free of the Law of Sin and death....I live every day free from condemnation, fear, guilt, uncertainty and doubt or false humility brought about by self righteousness...

I walk and live in The Spirit and SIN has no dominion over me, because I live under grace and not the law....this does not give me license to SIN and I do SIN, but SINNING or NOT SINNING is my choice...

A good tree doesn't bear bad fruit neither does a bad tree bear good fruit. You can teach and talk with someone about it who isn't living right but it's not our place to judge who is saved or not. That belongs to the only One who can know for sure, it also talks about making it into heaven...but barely as one singed by flames. The better question is why are you concerned about it? Unless you want to respectfully teach someone that you cannot profess Christ and live like the world, and it not bother you at all and expect that you are saved. If it never bothers them it means they don't have the Holy Spirit ministering to them or they have quenched Him and it will take God to do something for them to be able to listen again, or they have made their conscience dead all ready and cannot see that what they are doing is wrong, and only have head knowledge? hmm?

Did ANYONE look at the verses I put up????? Fake Christian: Someone who says they are a Christian but really isn't. They are mentioned in the Bible if I am not mistaken.

Matthew 25 has three parables that fits this example as well, as the Lord shows how all of them thought they were His. But half did not prepare, walk properly, and squandered what they were given. The Lord shut half them out of the kingdom of heaven for only having a mere profession faith, but not a true active faith built on Him.

:( How could someone ever expect to fool God?
Scriptures say we will know them by their fruits. People who profess to be Christians but are just wearing a label will be found out sooner or later.
We see it all the time with big public celebrities as an example. They wear a cross at award shows, thank God when they win something and prior to all that they were in the news having their 3rd illegitimate child by their married lover.

I and others did answer your question sis.
Those "fake" are just 'Christians'... by claiming they are.
I can claim to be a robot, ---doesn't mean that I am one.
This is simply a matter of a word.....'Christian'......like the word "saved".
God searches the hearts and minds, we do not enter into Heaven by a name tag.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Do you actually believe this verse?

If you don't know how to win me over, why are you asking me? Why not ask God? Is it because God doesn't actually answer with anything helpful? That's my hypothesis.

I don't simply claim that "I don't trust the bible". I try to demonstrate why, such as showing obvious contradictions or scientific absurdities, rather than just stating my opinion. Do you just assert that the bible is true? If that's the case, then you're quite right about how ineffective such an argument will be.

I offer the gift of knowledge. And what do you know? It's free! But you're probably going to "deny" this one, huh?

An atheist quoting scripture?
Maybe we Christians can preach the Gospel to you guys, by reverse psychology?

Like I said, I do not need to preach to you ( you in particular) how and what the Bible says.
You already know.
You don't want us too anyway.

American Atheists use to have (maybe still do?) a statement on their site, that said they would sue any Christian who tries to preach on there.
Why?
Yet, you all can come here, and most are willing to engage on discussion with you?

Atheists make up only a small fraction, of a fraction, in the world.

You all either hate or dislike the God I love and follow.
You have made your minds up for the most part.
Most/ a lot of you, know the Bible already, that is why you dislike God, you essentially hate Him or anything He has to say about life, so why would you expect us to swoop in and make you see something that you refuse to see?

You want scientific examples and proof on faith and belief.
My guess is that you requested and demanded the same from your teachers, on Socrates, the speed of light, or anything/anyone that still takes some form of belief to accept?

No?
Wow, so many loopholes on what you guys preach on as fact.
How do you do follow this so blindly?

Good luck man.

Ok, good. Your claim to being a Christian is based on the Bible. That's good, I can work with that.

The Bible also says that when someone is a Christian (a REAL Christian), that they are indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

So, were you indwelt by the Holy Spirit when you were a Christian?

I believed I was, as much as any Christian does. How does one know for sure? I imagine you think you do, but it's not as if there's an objective way to check for an invisible spirit. People *feel* the holy spirit, but we know from observation that people's feelings don't always reflect the truth -- Muslims *feel* Allah's presence, but neither you nor I believe it's real.

So after losing my faith, I obviously still believed that I "had the holy spirit" for quite some time, until I realized that I was just being silly (years of indoctrination will do that).

Not the question I asked. I'm not inquiring as to your feelings. It's a simple yes or no answer:

When you were a Christian, were you indwelt by the Holy Spirit?

Not only has this thread become thoroughly hijacked, but I've spent hours here. I'd love to respond to all of these posts, but simply don't have the time to live on this thread. If you wish to carry any of this further, feel free to email me and we'll carry on privately.

Your personal testimony is just that -- personal. Believers in every faith have conversion stories, and they all claim how life-changing their new religion is, and how they're finally awakened to the truth, etc. I've posted in the past on Muslim sites, and I've heard it myself. Have you? It doesn't sound like it. Don't just take my word for it -- go visit some nonbelievers.

"Salvation through grace" is an arbitrary difference from other religions. It certainly has nothing to do with being more true, which is what I value most. When I claim that Christianity is like other religions, I mean that they present the same forms of evidence. If you peruse the popular arguments for God, you'll see that none of them are specific to Christianity. Debates with Muslims bring out the exact same arguments, put forward the exact same ways. "Your God is a fine-tuning, designing, greatest possible being who created a moral standard? What a coincidence! So is mine!"

A simple "no" would have been fine.

You act as if it is your thread. It is not. It was started by JFSurvivor, and the one who hijacked it was you by leaping in to claim to be a "former Christian." How about we let the thread get back on track, and you PM us if you have any questions about this faith you never had, but apparently want, as indicated by your hanging around a board filled with people who believe in Someone you repudiated years ago?

I'm mainly asking this question because my parents are catholic and they go to church, and do the "right" thing most of the time but I can't talk to them about JESUS!!!!!!! It drives me up a wall!!

its too bad we'll never know the true story behind this person as they came here looking to prop up their misguided notion that they can do better for themselves than what God has to offer. Same old story....different millennia.

Romans 1:21-32

1 Corinthians 5

2 Corinthians 11:13-15

1 Timothy 1:3-11

James 2:14-24

Matthew 7:15-23

So these verses are all about "fake Christians". You know those Christians that are like, "I love Jesus" then they go off and do whatever they want. Or the Christians that think they are doing everything right when clearly they are not like for example they don't read their Bible...ever.

Are these people completely lost? Is there any hope for them? Also how should we witness to them? And lastly how to we "take the plank out of our own eye" before doing so? I feel like that would be a necessary step so that we don't end up like the Pharisees.

Anyways, other Bible verses on this topic are also appreciated as well as comments or thoughts on any or all of the above verses!

Thanks so much! :-)
Just to get this thread back on track and remind y'all what the OP is about.. :)

Some people are hard to talk to about Jesus and all of His word, because in most cases it means they will actually have to step up and reevaluate their own lives closer and how they are walking. The bible makes clear examples that a true faith in Christ is an active faith because He is the one working in and through us. If you see a person professing Christ, but over the years you see no change in their life as they continue to walk as the same old self they were before the professing. Then we know the professing is not real, and the Holy Spirit is not in them making them born again as the Lord through His Spirit will make those changes consciously and unconsciously. As I can testify that some changes in my life thanks be to Him I noticed right away, but others I did not realize tell others pointed it out to me.
All glory and honor goes to Him !!!

That's absolutely heartbreaking. The problem with many Catholics is that they revere, honor and worship the Catholic Church rather than Jesus. My prayers are lifted for you and your parents.

You bring up some good points but remember, I am talking about literate people who know the basics of Christianity. The people who use Christianity and the church as more of a country club that to really change for the better.
But you are assuming that most people know the basics, I grew up without that and ended up a satanist.
I went from that to kabbalah and only recently became a Christian, but for some unknown reason people seem to think that I would know everything about it.
I thought being a Christian was about following Christ - not following dogma of a church.
This is why people dont go to church

Hey Starcrash, study Saturn worship, the symbolism, the black cube, the rituals and the occult. You will begin to understand that all other religions worship Satan under different names since the beginning of time. Satan is the "god" of this world and he controls all the worldly systems here ever since Eden. Governments, secret societies, religions etc all point to him. Everything stems from the Babylonian mystery religion and Nimrod. At the tower of Babel, the world was united in their desire to become like God without God. That is when God confused our language so that we would split up. Satan has been working to bring us all back to the tower of Babel and we are almost there now.

Muslims worship the cube(Mecca)/ star and crescent, Israel's (Isis-Ra-El) national flag is the hexagram (which is at its center, the cube) and they wore the cube on their forehead, Baal, Moloch, Dagon, Kronos, Baphomet, Pan, Chiun, Remphan, Milcom, Chemosh, Malcham, masonry/freemasonry, the pyramid, Set, nonduality, square and compass, Catholicism, Osiris and Isis, Horus, Kabbalah, Venus and Adonis, Astarte and Eshmun, Ishtar and Tammuz, Rome (city of Saturn), Dionysos, Hyperion, Atlas, Hercules, Kali, Illuminati, Ramadan, Lucifer, Ishtar, New Age, Hinduism, Brahman and Atman, yin & yang and on and on and on... There is truth in all these, but you have to seek it to find it. Satan is king here and his followers, even today, are at the top of the pyramid and control the world and its wealth.

The Bible is the Word of God
