Hmm! Fasting as diet. Must think carefully about it.

Fasting should be abstaining from everything pleasant. That would include mani-pedis, sex, and chocolate, right?

Of course, if the spouse does not agree, one should not fast from sex. As someone already posted, fasting from sex in the Bible must be done in agreement with the spouse.

During "fasting" it isn´t good to eat "peaches"... Otherwise, it wasn´t fasting and, married persons know, for sure, either of the spouses needed that PARTICULAR time for those devotions and, if they were "spiritually" or physically one, both should be of common agreement fasting (and deprived FROM those fruits of the flesh)

I think of 'fasting' as not eating food. I don't think of a vegetarian diet or just no meat or chocolate. I'd call that abstaining from something.

I've seen clips of women in movies or TV acting like they are enjoying themselves so much having a pedicure or manicure. I don't get what is so enjoyable about that. I'd think of it as something mildly unpleasant, having to hold our hand still while someone works on your fingernails. But there is the 'vanity' aspect of it (maybe too strong of a word.)

God did tell Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply. Sex is very much a prerequisite for life.

When I was married, I occasionally went on fasts in order to spend time with God. Every now and then, yes, I decided to fast from sex to have a clear head (so that I would put my current thoughts with God into focus rather than thinking about romancing the husband) but in all honesty, I can only remember doing that once and I explained everything to him with plenty of notice. I asked for 3 days. I hardly think that's unreasonable. Even though my husband wasn't a practicing Christian at the time, he was thoroughly supportive.

All I can say is, if people think romantic encounters when making up after a fight are intense... Try spending a brief time getting closer to the Lord... and THEN going back to your spouse.

Trust me. It's the bomb, totally! You'll be lucky to walk away unharmed! And you don't know unless you actually try it!

(I'm just sad that our marriage didn't work out in the end, but it WASN'T because of asking for 3 days to fast, I can guarantee!)

Christ only has one church, and it is things like this that identify false churches. In 1 Timothy 4:1-9 the bible talks about people who force others to abstain from things like marriage and foods, and this is along those lines. It says these teachings come from demons. The bible says a married couple can abstain from each other if they both agree to do so, and if it is for a set time. It does not say that the church decides when they should or should not come together. Demons are against marriage and family, and try to break them apart, that's why they create such teachings.

I wanted to respond to you as I in the past during fasting I usually go a week or more, and the longest one I have done so far is 3 weeks. I did get week as you say, but after the 3rd or 4th day I seem to always feel rejuvenated or energized.

The church has no business making suggestions about any such practices. Fasting is not binding. It is a personal matter and choice. Always was. My fast is my fast. What it includes and does not include is up to me. If my wife and I agree to abstain or not from sex, that's our business.

I would tell those churches that they should also discourage members from contributing money on the first Sunday that follow any fasting during the week.

Absolute nonsense.
