Sorry Elin, I see no mention of the "Decalogue".
Indeed, he refers to ALL of the (Hebrew) law - which was much more than the Ten Commandments.


We have to remember He was a devout, observant Jew and would most likely consider many Christian beliefs as blasphemy.

A "devout and observant Jew" who said it is not what (food) goes into the mouth that makes a man unclean, but what comes out of the mouth that makes a man unclean.

A "devout and observant Jew" who said all the law and the prophets are contained in only two commands.

A "devout and observant Jew" who said that condemnation was not based on disobedience to the law, but
on one thing only--unbelief in him (Jn 3:18, 36).

The Jews didn't think that was "devout and observant."

You make him but a "devout and observant Jew" when he was the one who
came down from heaven,
sent by God,
to die as a ransom,
possessing all authority (power) in heaven and earth,
with power to forgive sin,
to conquer Satan,
to speak for God, and
to judge all mankind.

He, who came to make the church his bride/wife would consider Christianity as blasphemy?

What he would consider as blasphemy is rejection of any of the words spoken by the Son
in these last days (Heb 1:1-2) through the NT writers.

The very first thing that all believers need to build upon are the words of God, and the words that Jesus spoke to Satan quoting those words from His Father. When we totally accept this foundation, we will be better equipped to know the truth, rather than picking and choosing, making up fictitious doctrines according to what we want the Bible to say. These words are as follows;

"And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live." Deuteronomy 8:3

"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4

Some might say that Israel only heard God speak in Exodus chapter 20. This is true, but God continued to speak through Moses and the prophets. This is proven true by what Jesus told the Pharisees.

John 5:45-47

You are under all of them, until you come to Christ. Then you are under none of them.

No one can just pick and choose which laws to follow and which laws to not follow, carnally in the flesh, or they are hypocrites.

If a person can see some of the law as spiritual, then they should be able to see that all the rest of it is spiritual as well. But, oddly enough, lots of people don't/can't.

Galatians 3:10 [SUP] [/SUP]For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

The Lord Jesus is about being all in. You are either all law, or you are all grace. You get to choose. But you only get to choose one. Lots of people try to choose both but don't realize they've chosen neither.

Do you know about the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ?

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

The Lord Jesus is talking to the people who are trying to do all the things written in the book of the law. The people in Galatians 3:10...

You've got lots of praying and lots of reading the bible ahead of you. I simultaneously envy you and pity you... I envy you for all the growth you will have in the Lord. I pity you for all the pain that is involved in that growth. Just know that its well worth it. It is so worth it that no one down here can describe how worth it it really is.

As I understand this verse: Anything beyond what believers and unbelievers agree is immoral should not be addressed by law.

The moral and ethical principles, from the Law, which were taught by Jesus; should be part of a true believer's lifestyle:

NOT BECAUSE OF LAW; but because the Holy Spirit within us provokes and enables us to obey them.


ANYTHING from the Law that Jesus elected not to address should be treated as a matter of individual conscience.


If we have the Holy Spirit within us, and God wants us to change our behavior; The Holy Spirit can and will communicate that desire without our interferance!

Paul is not referring to some general type of knowledge, but the precise experiential kind only by knowing God on an intimate and personal level. It is not knowing everything "about" God that brings us into a relationship with God, but rather actually meeting, conversing and spending time in prayer with God.

It is that revelation knowledge which Paul is referring to. That knowledge which comes when we hear God speak to our own heart on an individual basis. This is what Paul is praying, that which God desires above all else, that which God desires for everyone everywhere.

"come to a precise and experiential knowledge of the truth"

I must ask here how will this happen if we are not praying for it to happen?"

Well, the uncomfortable answer to this is that there's no set formula that applies to all of the Levitical laws. (Nor, btw, is there any Christian denomination that I know of that follows them all).

Here's what we can extrapolate: The Ten Commandments still apply. Jesus references these in various places in the gospels. Additionally, he sums them up by narrowing them down to two: Love God with you're whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Also, the dietary laws seem to have been lifted based on Peter's dream (as referenced in Acts). And the law of circumcision seems to not be applied to gentiles according to many scriptures from Paul in the NT.

So where does that leave all the other Levitical laws?

Up to personal conviction, basically. Of course, individuals often insist that their view of it is THE only possible view. And they'll gather up with a group who agrees, give themselves a name and become a denomination that bags on other denominations for not following scripture the way that they do.

Here's ultimately the danger of it all. If a person or group presumes that they are closer to God or "more right" with God than others because they wear pure cotton and not mixed fibers, that's a mistake.

We all need a Savior--that is Jesus, and HIS yoke is easy. We have freedom in Christ. So, if someone follows the dietary laws because it improves their health...right on. But to insist that others must do so is a bit uppity.

Controversy is started when error is first posted, particularly by those who reject parts of the NT,

in defending God's truth against the Judaizers.
