JF,Please slow down a bit. I was in your shoes at one time. I played all those very same tapes for DECADES (42 years).
I went through HORRIBLE depressions, depression so strong I could actually feel them come like a load of bricks on my shoulders. I tried committing suicide. I went through the drugs and alcohol because of it. My father never liked me and I was never good enough. My brothers and sisters didn't talk to me either. And to top that all off I have to deal with something that often times made me feel like a freak of nature.

I wasn't good enough,I was cursed by God,God was just waiting for me to step put of line and He was going to crush me like a bug,I was worth less then dog poo,God couldn't possible love this freak. I have no idea how often I prayed and yelled at God how I wished I had never been born. I was in emotional and mental pain for decades.

Then to add to injury when I turned 18 and I met a man who was very dark and evil. He was into witchcraft and some other stuff. That man abused me for 3 years and he tried to kill me 3 different times. He threatened to blow my family away (He knew where my family lived and I believed he was able to do it) and I believed I deserved it because I was worthless and that was the way a freak was to be dealt with.

Then to top it all off for good measure after dealing with this for all those years in 2000,right around Easter I had a major fight with my spouse who committed suicide. We never reconciled before that happened. That compounded the whole problem even more. Because I was the one to blame,it was my fault, etc etc etc. Until the Lord got a hold of me and started having me with all the WRONG thoughts, because many of them WERE LIES I had believed for years and as the Lord would take me through it and deal with each and every one that I had believed He released from all that garbage and I could finally see myself the RIGHT way in the manner that He wanted me to see myself. (And I will not kid you that it was easy to do,I fought it at times,I had to fight the doubts and fears and seeing God as someone like my father)

I have been there and there is victory when we do it His way. His way removes all the garbage and gives us peace. Because until we deal with and confront the lies they will remain and they will come back again and again and again, because we have a left opening for Satan to get at us and that door needs to be shut.

I'm sorry you had to go through that but you still don't understand this forum!

Overly spiritual miss the fact the human element to us. God made us that way and even said it was good. It's what makes us unique in all creation. The only way God could reveal to creation what His love looks like is by teaching us.

**overly spiritual people**

I love you so much Sarah. :'( Im sorry you went thru all that

I'm sorry you had to go through that but you still don't understand this forum!

I thought the title of your thread was loving yourself. Is the better way to do that by getting a pat on the back or dealing with the things that we are beating ourselves up over? Is the pat on the back going stop one from beating themselves up? Which is the better way and the way that God would have us go?

Jason . . . I now realise you just don't have the skill-set to be making comments on this thread.

I'm sorry, but this coming from a 14 year old just flat out kicks my butt!

Good for you, Zoii.

Being kind to yourself and loving yourself is not the same thing as a pat on the back...

To love yourself doent mean you have to toot your own horn all the time. It also doesnt mean you have to fish for others to compliment all the time. I love giving others compliments..it makes me happy. People often mistake that I have low self esteem. Just because I dont toot my own horn constantly, doesnt mean I think Im crap. The world is filled with people who judge you totally wrong. But it bothers me little because God reads my mind...and He loves me. I dont have to think Im amazing all the time for inner peace

Ok so you get it then...you can love yourself while being humble

1 Cor 15:10~~New American Standard Bible
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.

Philippians 4:11~~
New American Standard Bible
Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.

I see a lot of semantics in this thread. and people not really understanding each other.

Yes we are depraved and it all about Christ. I can't "love" myself in arrogance. But I can love myself RIGHTLY.

What it is called is VIRTUE love. It is a personal love for God the Father that expresses itself(By the power of the Spirit) in impersonal and unconditional love for mankind and ourselves. We love based upon our love for the Father, the Son and the Spirit. It is a love that cannot be produced in our flesh. It comes through the Spirit indwelling in us.

And we need to learn Gods will. Because sometimes it is His will for us to suffer. It is our parent in this spiritual life. It builds character and keeps us out of big trouble in our lives and glorifies God if we suffer correctly.

Be content in ALL things and KNOW that sometimes we suffer for the benefit of glorifying Him and building our character.

For the most part we should not pray for the suffering to end. We should pray to handle it according to Gods will and pray we glorify Him in our suffering. If we can get to this point, the suffering will end and God will be glorified and we will have grown spiritually while doing it. But be prepared for more suffering. And you will have the mental attitude and the tools to suffer rightly and glorify Him.

Ok I can see your point but why would it be Gods will for us to suffer? I understand certain suffering can be good but becoming suicidal is NOT from God nor are the things leading up to it.

2 Corinthians 1:3–7 (NASB95)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Suffering brings Glory to God.

New American Standard Bible
Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Suicidal thoughts ALWAYS comes from being subjective in our sufferings instead of objective in our sufferings.

1. Faith rest. Rest in His faith. It may be a while.
2. Occupation with Christ(objective thinking). Not with ourselves(subjective thinking)
