I tread in the BDF with some trepidation...I wanted to do a series of threads covering Gifts of the Holy spirit, or you may just feel they are gifts you were born with - either way they are gifts from God. I'd like to begin with the gift of "dreams" and more specifically interpretation of dreams.

Personally I do not dream - or if I do I don't remember them but I know many Christians who do dream often feel that their dreams are insights or warnings from God. I would be interested in opinions and experiences on this. Then there are the interpreters, is this mumbo jumbo? Personally I'm not sure dream interpreters are anything other than folks like you and me largely guessing or maybe guessing with the help of a book listing basic dreams and their meanings - maybe a secular book or worse some kind of "spiritual" book but not written by Christians. Do you feel that interpreters are gifted in this way too? Can dreams be trusted? Can interpreters and interpretations be trusted? Thoughts?

I personally believe that those kinds of gifts ended with the Apostolic age.

We have all we need to know contained in the Scriptures.

The gift of dreams visions and prophecy are very real and have great importance. There are dream interpreters I'm sure but I have never run across a legit one. I have many dreams from God but I have been all over the web all over all kinds of churches and they all gave an interpretation of my dreams but I always go to God in the end and he showed me the interpretation of my dreams which was not what these dream interpreters said it was. I can interpret dreams somewhat but I cannot give full details of the dream and it's meaning I am only given understanding of certain things and areas in ppls dreams.

Blain, do you feel your dreams are always from God?

Indeed. During the Apostolic age.

What prophecies can anyone give in our age that we can add to the Scriptures? To say "thus sayeth the Lord" makes whatever we "propecy" the actual Word of God, i.e., "Scripture". We are commanded not to add to the Scriptures.

What information not already contained in the Bible do we need?

The Bible says: "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness. So that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:17)

We don't require any extra-biblical information.

I am always a dreamer and I believe most of which comes from God. Sometimes, I ask another believer what they believe that dream meant and to be completely honest with you, after they tell me I always ask God to confirm or deny whether what they said was true.

Where in the bible does it say that God would stop pouring his spirit in ppl and giving dreams and visions? I have never read the bible saying that this was meant only for the apostolic age that you speak of also what makes you think that age has ended?

What do you mean by dreams from God? Are you sleeping when they occur or are they visions . This topic interests me a lot. I don't believe I've ever had a dream from God but I have had dreams involving my faith, but I've always just thought that was because it was such a big part of my life. Its so cool how God works through different people in different ways.

I mean dreams given to us from God. For some he gives many prophetic dreams others he gives dreams to share with the world because it has a message from him in it others he gives dreams to encourage them and strengthen them in their faith, I have received all three types but I also have several times received them from the enemy. Any kind of gift God uses with us he will always try to use against us. If these dreams have to do your faith they may be from God can you give me an example?

Dreams and visions promised to Israel when the Lord returns. Often referred to as the latter rain. Joel 2 is where we see the prophecy recorded and we if we read closely the Spirit poured out on all flesh while the dreaming and prophecy is for Israel.

From a child I learned that an idle mind is the devils playground.

Well the most recent was probably about 2weeks ago. Its kinda hard to explain if you don't know me real well. But basically I was forced to share my testimony and talk about some personal parts of my life in front of this huge church(I don't like talking in front of big groups and am not too open about my bad memories. But anyways everyone was staring at me and I was nervous and had a seizure (I'm epileptic and a big fear of mine is having one at the wrong place and time when everyone is watching) but the crowd started chanting that I was possessed and all these mean things.... Then I woke up. I just thought maybe I had to much sugar before bed and then read my Bible right before falling asleep

well obviously God can speak in dreams or present something in a dream...Joseph being the most obvious one who interprets and or dreams

however, I believe this has been exaggerated and overrated

dreams and visions should take second place to the revealed word of God...and there are just some people who are very prone to dreaming and seem to think God has given them a gift when they simply do not understand how the mind works and what exercises it goes through during sleep

I would be leery of dream interpreters...surely if there are 10 in a room they will argue

IF a dream does actually occur as a result of God's insertion via His Holy Spirit, into our sub-conscious, then isn't he the One to give the interpretation or meaning to the dreamer?

that would be my understanding and experience

If some dream is from God, this would be the equivalent of scripture. Two things. There are all sorts of people claiming apocalyptic dreams and visions. All of those so-called visions that had a time frame involved, now past, failed, 100% of all such dreams or visions touted as coming from God: they all failed, all delusions or lies. This is a 100% record of phony baloney, including false prophets who've had buildings erected to them, like Ellen White or Joseph Smith, et al. If there are things to add to the apocalypse, as people are having so-called visions everywhere these days, explain this in terms of,

Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Some of us believe this applies to the whole of scripture, not just Revelation. But explain how people are being faithful and adding to the word of God?

Secondly, name one, just one person who should be writing scripture, since the first century church. Just one. You have so-called prophets all over the web. Name one name who is always 100% accurate in their "thus saith the Lord" routines, trying to say something new. I've yet to have one person named who should have, veritably, been added or should be added to scripture, and we're talking around 2,000 years now, yet not one person. Is this not saying something, loudly? I'm still waiting for the name of that "13th apostle," from any of you of the extra-Biblical camp, whose new revelations come from God and should be considered scripture. Or the link to the website of somebody you claim is an extra-Biblical prophet, which there must be many of, all sorts of new information, if the Lord is pouring His Spirit out, in torrents, on people by visions the past couple thousand years after Pentecost, right? Only asking for one link. Just one?

My two cents is that, if it's extra-Biblical, this is your first big, fat red flag you're dealing with a nutter or a false prophet. And maybe there's still some things you need to learn from the Bible, that would be a profitable use of time. Lastly, if it's not really from God, it's lies and may as well be from the devil, a very important thought to ponder.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Stick to reliable witnesses of scripture,

2 Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

when you are sleeping, notuptoyou, are you in control of your dreams?

some can actually do that, but for the sake of the op, is the mind idle when asleep?

Well, why the equivalent of scripture? The dreams Joseph interpreted were not scripture...they are included in scripture...and same for his own dreams

I have had several dreams that were pertinent to my own little world, and that really helped me with what was on my mind and they occurred in such a way I know God by His Spirit directed them

For sure there are false episodes galore...but there is real also...but again, they don't pop up like mushrooms IMO
