Well the most recent was probably about 2weeks ago. Its kinda hard to explain if you don't know me real well. But basically I was forced to share my testimony and talk about some personal parts of my life in front of this huge church(I don't like talking in front of big groups and am not too open about my bad memories. But anyways everyone was staring at me and I was nervous and had a seizure (I'm epileptic and a big fear of mine is having one at the wrong place and time when everyone is watching) but the crowd started chanting that I was possessed and all these mean things.... Then I woke up. I just thought maybe I had to much sugar before bed and then read my Bible right before falling asleep
Well it's a a bit vague, If you think about this fear of yours eventually you may dream about it yet at the same time it's a pretty realistic scenario that happens in real life. However this doesn't seem to be from God, if it is a spiritual dream it's most likely from the enemy, it's one of his favorite and most effective tactics- to feed off our fears and weaknesses and if we have the gift of dreams then he will use that gift against us

when you are sleeping, notuptoyou, are you in control of your dreams?

some can actually do that, but for the sake of the op, is the mind idle when asleep?
That is one of the main reasons why we need to utilize the armor of God explained in Ephesians

I certainly believe we need to have a guard over our minds...the helmet of salvation as you say...and we renew our minds by the word

I personally believe that those kinds of gifts ended with the Apostolic age.

We have all we need to know contained in the Scriptures.
I don't believe that it is my role, or yours, to determine if or when those gifts have ended.

The only two that I see Scripture say will end at some time are tongues, and prophesy; and Scripture does not address when this did or will occur.

I am not arguing whether you are correct I'm only questioning our authority to make such a determination.

We are told:
Jn 16:13
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
KJV

Whatever we may believe about Spiritual gifts, nothing in Scripture remotely suggests that the role of the Holy Spirit has changed. I see no reason not to believe that God does not use dreams to enable the Holy Spirit to show us things to come.

I think it is very important to recognize the likelihood that NOT ALL dreams are from God.

I tread in the BDF with some trepidation...I wanted to do a series of threads covering Gifts of the Holy spirit, or you may just feel they are gifts you were born with - either way they are gifts from God. I'd like to begin with the gift of "dreams" and more specifically interpretation of dreams.

Personally I do not dream - or if I do I don't remember them but I know many Christians who do dream often feel that their dreams are insights or warnings from God. I would be interested in opinions and experiences on this. Then there are the interpreters, is this mumbo jumbo? Personally I'm not sure dream interpreters are anything other than folks like you and me largely guessing or maybe guessing with the help of a book listing basic dreams and their meanings - maybe a secular book or worse some kind of "spiritual" book but not written by Christians. Do you feel that interpreters are gifted in this way too? Can dreams be trusted? Can interpreters and interpretations be trusted? Thoughts?

Hi MPW. I have had a lot of Godly dreams over the years, most have been instructive dreams for me
or have provided personal insight, some have been prophetic and of things to come, which have
subsequently come true. A few have been for other people but I usually am very cautious about
sharing these with the relevant person unless there is some sort of confirmation, as I would not
want to mislead anyone. Other the years I have kept a dream diary of those Godly dreams.

There can be dreams of warning, of conviction, of rebuke, of instruction, of edification, of revelation, etc.
I was healed of my sleep walking through a dream.

I would however be the first to say NOT ALL DREAMS ARE GODLY DREAMS. Most are just the
usual fleshy dreams.

I could give you loads of examples of Godly dreams I have had, I don't know why some
people have them and some don't. All I know is that we worship a wonderful God and He
communicates with us in many different ways.

The Godly dreams have a different feel to them than normal dreams. They are vivid, colourful,
full of detail and have a sense of peace, excitement and the presence of God all at the same time.
For me they are also very symbolic. Sometimes I might have the same dream 3 times on different
nights, or I might have one dream broken down into 3 parts like watching a series over different
nights of the week but each one perfectly following on from the other.

It's a contentious subject and many will be quick to dismiss this post, all I can do is relate to
you my experiences. Not sure if this helps at all.

PS the dreams started around the time I had a special time with God as a young person,
i did post more about this when I posted my testimony in the testimony forum if you want to
read this.

Same here miri everything you spoke of is true. I can tell the difference between a normal dream and spiritual dream, ppl could easily assume that dreams we know are from God could be due to pizza or because that's what we think of or maybe it was just a crazy dream but dreams from God are not the same as regular dreams. as you said the colors are far more vivid and detailed they give you hope peace and other things that encourage the believer.

But they also can easily relate to scripture i have seen this many times and then there the fact when you get a dream from God and have become accustom to his giving them to you then there is a sense of knowing it was from God.

"And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

here now is a typical example where the real crux of the matter/message is missed - notice very carefully that it does not say some but it says all - wincam

Then you need to understand not to take everything literally when reading the word.

Romans 12-6:8 Romans 12:6-8New International Version (NIV)

6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully

who determines the idle mind?

many talk about having an open mind - but this can be dangerous if open to devils and human demons who know how to mesmerise and indoctrinate or radicalise - wincam

at the same time though with a closed mind you won't grow much in faith.

okay maddie - at 85 I have had many dreams in fact hundreds like many others here no doubt and like many others I have remembered some and not others but in all those dreams like most other folk I cannot recall whether I dreamt in black and white or colour - so check it out for yourself - be surprised with more to come why we really dream and miss the real message and get all hung up and tangled up on tangents and side issues - wincam

So because you have not seen it means you don't believe it? If you recieved a dream from God trust me you would know but you speak as if you think this gift is a joke so i don't think you ever have

it is written why it is written is that we may continue to simply simply believe that which we simply simply believed as little Christian children that Jesus Christ is our Saviour and the son of God and simply simply believing we may have life in His name[Jn.20:31] for Jesus said that it is simply very difficult if not simply impossible for adults to simply simply believe - wincam

Yes it does but then it follows with your sons and daughters. The Holy Spirit is indeed poured out on all people when they receive Christ as their Savior but the gifts of prophecy and dreaming is for Israel in the days when Christ returns. This along with the signs in the heavens will be for Israel not for the Gentile masses.

Indeed read carefully not just skim and make up what you want it to say. Context not pretext.

An open mind is like an open window. They work best when they have a screen. May the screen of your mind be Gods holy word the bible.

The bible is written like it is so that only those with the right heart can see past the first layer of the word understand the meaning
