In many ways and many forms, Elohim anciently conversed with our fathers by the prophets, but in the latter days He has conversed with us by His Son whom He has constituted heir of all things, and by whom He has made the worlds. Hebrews 1:1-2 (AENT)

1599 Geneva Bible
[SUP]1 [/SUP]At sundry times and in divers manners God spake in the old time to our fathers by the Prophets: in these last days he hath spoken unto us by his Son,
[SUP]2 [/SUP]Whom he hath made heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds,

The latter days in first mentioned in Genesis 49:1, "And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days."

Then in James 5:3, "Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days."

and also in 2 Peter 3:3 "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,"

To me the "later days" seem to take in "all" of the New Covenant time period, including the 2nd coming of Christ.

The first part of the general proposition of this Epistle, is that the Son of God is indeed that Prophet or teacher, which has now actually performed that, so God, manifested in Christ Jesus, and in shadows signified by his Prophets, has fully opened his Father’s will to the world.

I might be. How would the study work? Would each person be able to share?

Well, this would be done in a chat group. I was thinking about teaching the book just as I would in a class setting. While it would not be a debate forum any questions would be welcomed.

No offense, but I'm going to pass. If a study can be arranged where everyone could share their respective understandings in a civil and respectful manner, then I'd certainly consider being a part of that.

While I tend to agree with you most of the time; I would prefer a format that was more interactive; perhaps a Bible Discussion group with controled membership.

That would be a lot more appealing to me as well. None of us have the whole picture ourselves.

Would I like your take on Hebrews? You betcha.

My problem is that whole chat room idea. That means we all have to meet at the same time globally and have Skype capabilities. I know I don't live such an orderly life, ad I simply don't like the idea of Skype in the first place -- too intrusive, and I'm still a 20th century gal that gets a tad bit overwhelmed by 21st century technology. (I don't want a video camera on my desktop and I don't ever want to say afk-bathroom break and mean it. lol)

It will not be in a chat room but in a chat group. It will not be an audio response. Everyone will post their responses just as they would on a BDF and it will not require everyone to be on line at the same time. I will post one section of study at a time and if anyone has any questions on that segment they will be given time to ask. Remember, this will not be a debate form. I will be teaching in a class room setting. Please be respectful of the study.

That is what the BDF's are for. There is no possible way to effectively teach a book of the Bible on a BDF. It normally takes me 13 months to teach Hebrews in 45 min increments. Obviously I will not be able to teach the book in at that depth in this type of setting but I do think you would find the study enjoyable.

I will certainly give it a hearing.

My question concerns what happens if I have a different take on a particular verse or passage. I have too much respect for you to disrupt your class; but I would be very uncomfortable if I had a point of disagreement and were constrained from making it known.

Just present it to me in an email.

I am not sure that would be sufficient; because, if I did disagree with you, I would feel a responsibility to the other members of the class to call it to their attention. At the same time I would feel obliged to show you the respect you have earned.

Well, I can appreciate that. When you were in college, how did you respond to your professor when you did not agree with him? Did you voice your disagreement before the entire class or did you ask to speak to him after his class session was over to discuss it?

I'm sorry to have to ask this and I really do feel compelled to do the same as respectfully as possible, but when did you become our professor? I'm sorry, but something just doesn't seem right here. I actually like you and I suppose that you already know that, but you're really not our professor.
