it's funny that you tell this story, because when i first learned to make polenta, i didn't realize there was fried polenta triangle AND polenta "mush" (for lack of a better word).

but sheesh, k, i would give my left arm for a plate of fried polenta. sigh. or fried lumpia (i've been craving that too) or homemade pan fried potstickers.

sounds yummy. me? protein shake with matcha and coconut milk. no tylenol, though!

my dinner plans are looking up though. i've been craving lengua and carnita tacos for like days now. : )

The funny thing is that of course, the "as-seen-on-TV" crash course (on PBS, with Nick Stellino) looked so easy. He just basically brought cornmeal and salt to a boil in a pot, poured it in a pan and baked it to make the squares. For some reason, I got it all wrong.

Lumpia... Never made them myself but my bro and sis-in-law did once. And they were delish.

I'm glad you didn't need to Tylenol today .

Unfortunately, this is where my cuisinicity (my own mix for "cuisine" and "ethnicity" ) ends.

I'll be going home tomorrow evening. When I get home, my house will be put on the market. Yaaaayy moving.

Anyone else have those times where they feel lonely and like a complete freak who has no clue how to be normal and live a normal life? Or am I as much of a freak as my untrustworthy feelings would have be believe?

lengua tacos are basically made from beef tongue, which i know kind of sounds gross. and to be honest, if i had known what i was eating the first time i had it, i might have been quite full of trepidation. now that i've now had lengua tacos a bunch of places. some really don't do it justice. and by the way, anything that made them resemble their former state has been removed, obliterated and it just looks like beef. well, mostly.

but my local taco joint seriously makes among the best i've ever had. second only to a dive in fullerton, CA that i have been to a few times since, but first discovered after making a pit stop during a motorcycle trip down the CA to pick something up at the border. that was a really fun trip. did you know that food tastes a lot better after spending a lot of time with the wind in your face?

carnitas are pork. so delicious. oh so good. and the lengua tastes like very tender beef. it melts in your mooouth. okay, that was a typo, but i left it for you all because it amused me. : )

I honestly just want to see my fur babies. I miss them so. My dog and kitty must miss me.

evie, i'm glad you're staying with your grandparents during this time. i am sure you're being quite a blessing to them, and they are glad to have you--even if you miss your menagerie! : )

Yeah. I've had a great time this week with my grandma! Her and I have had a good share of laughs this week. She's got a great sense of humor. I'm mainly just keeping her company while grandpa's not around, but she needs it. We visited my grandpa yesterday at the rehabilitation center, and he's doing okay and he should be home next week.

And my grandparent's puppy has gone to live with my cousin and his family for now, so I was a little sad about that, but today we took the puppy to the vet for a checkup and when my cousin's wife and kids came around the afternoon, they stayed until around 3 pm. So I spent a good bit of the day loving on the puppy like crazy. Because she's flippin' adorable and soft and cuddly and aaahh, puppies are God's gift to mankind. lol

Wow... I think that everybody decided to jump on my last nerve after Thursday... Or maybe Thursday was just just the day I snapped and had enough of it, and the incident on Thursday was just what tipped the barrel finally.
The ONLY person who hasn't tried to tell me I need to calm down about people invading my personal space, OR tried to excuse people's behavior when they do, is my sister-in-law. Personal space invasion is a HUGE problem for me. I can't trust people who think they can just do whatever they want to with my things, or my stewardships. Then people who do that, wonder why I push them away from me, or "don't like" them.
Dude, I'm a mom, I'm going to have a problem when you take my daughter from me, and haul off with her to WHO KNOWS WHERE, and I have no idea where she is, until someone ELSE that you passed her to, brings her back to me. I don't like that you took her, I don't like that you pass her around... Is that something I need to calm down about? I don't think so!
No, you're not allowed to hold my new baby either when he gets here, not unless you can sit still, and YOU MAY NOT PASS HIM AROUND!!!

I'm not a mom, I don't have kids... shoot I'm not even married and I know you let the parents know when you're taking the kid somewhere. There's this little boy I pick up for church. If we're doing something after service I always let his mother know. She probably wouldn't worry at all if he came home late - she knows he's with us. But I let her know what's going on anyway. It's just what you do.

Assuming there's not something else to the story... your sister in law is right. You oughta be mad about that.

When I was a kid, my Mom once served us a "mystery meat" dinner... that had little tiny bumps all over it. I guess she thought we'd be distracted enough by the mashed potatoes and gravy not to notice. So, for the ENTIRE meal, I kept asking her over and over if it was tongue, and she kept insisting (with wide, exaggerated eyes that told me she was trying to pull one over on me) NNOOOO!!!

But you see, my Mama didn't raise no fool... and this WAS my Mama trying to pull one over on me!! Apparently she didn't think we would notice that this meat was horribly "bumpy" and tried to pass it off as... I have no idea what. A VERY low-grade slice of rump roast??? With bumps??? *SHUDDER* (Would the thought of eating warts be worse than chewing on tastebuds... that aren't your own???)

Hence, this began my personal motto of never tasting food... that could have tasted you back... BLEH!!!

*However, because I've known Gypsy's advice to be quite sound in other cases... I MIGHT, just MIGHT take a tiny bite. But I can't promise anymore.*

This probably isn't very helpful and I maybe should just stick with some cliche Christianese answer. Keep your eyes on the Lord, or Nobody will be lonely in heaven, or... I don't actually know what the proper Christian response is, so I'll just say one more thing and then hush-

We love you, quirks and all. And some of us understand how you're feeling, some of us might not, but we care about you and personally, I feel...blessed, humbled, honored?...when folks share something real like what you've said. It seems to make the world a little less huge and scary.

Nooooo. Nooooo. No cliché Christianese answers. Those make me want to go ballistic in a hurry (but I'm too nice for that so I'll just retreat deeper into solitude to get away from the well meaning annoyance). I much prefer your style of honest words and wisdom gained from being one of the most wonderfully quirky people we have around here. Torn up house, bird shoes, crazy kids and family and all.

no bumps. i promise. : D that WOULD be impossible for me to eat, as bad lengua that hasn't been properly prepared can have such things. ewwww.

though i've eaten more suspicious stuff before. haahahaaaa. most recently a rather intrepid little flying bug who essentially came through a tiny screen hole and somehow managed to get inhaled or something like that while i was laughing.

okay it was sooooo gross. i was hacking like a cat trying to cough a furball for hours. and i just *shuddered* again. but seriously, i've had worse. haahahaa.

My eldest daughter is in town, but going down to L.A. tomorrow to start her career as a teacher. I was thinking today of when she was much younger, she enjoyed chicken strips. I was also thinking of when she was in high school and thought that her chemistry teacher occasionally gave stupid assignments and she blew them off sometimes in her arrogance.

Today, we went out to dinner. She ordered chicken strips, which she never does anymore. She told me of her summer training as an intern teaching a summer school remedial program in which she had an interesting conversation with a student. After determining that he was really smart but bored and never did his work, which was why he was in that class in the first place, she told him that she made similar mistakes in a high school science course and her arrogance made her GPA suffer and cost her some scholarships.

So something that kind of nagged at me about her - she has used as a life lesson to help someone else out. Praise God! It's also weird that I was just thinking about the chicken strips and her high school chemistry class earlier today, though.

We had a great time. After dinner, we went shopping for some kitchen items for her first apartment. I surprised her by telling her I was buying the cookware set, so she upgraded her knives. I just gave her some other supply items from my kitchen too. I plan to take a day off here and there in August to continue to help her get on her feet.

It's so rewarding to see your kid being frugal with money and starting life with a good head on her shoulders. Thank you, Lord!!!

Why I love my job: we are all nerds. Japanese music plays in our store constantly, and I asked if I could put in my playlist. They said fine and if they were needing to change it they would (if it got annoying or anything). After two hours I could feel my manager just going

but he didn't say anything. And even after I asked him if he'd like it changed and he said yes, he was still very nice about it. We are nerds, but we are nerds with common courtesy.
